Happy Labor Day Chat

Happy Birthday to your son, Glenda. Funny about them being late arrivals. I was early. My father, who was into astrology at the time, thought I was going to be an Aries. But I got in a hurry. I am Pisces on the cusp (March 19). At 6:30 am, Thursday, March 19, 1964, my mother got up to get some orange juice. In the kitchen, her water broke. And she felt something poking out. So, she carefully waddled back to the bedroom and asked my father to look and see of a hand or foot was sticking out. No, it was tubular. My umbilical cord. She asked if it was purple (as it should be). No, it was kind of gray. So, panic set in and he got her to the hospital in record time. Her doctor, a farmboy, was very strong and lifted her up and over onto the gurney and put her on her elbows and knees. I was in breach position, sitting on my umbilical cord and he was trying to relieve pressure and it restored blood flow and my heartbeat was still strong and getting better. I was to big to be turned around so she had to have an emergency c-section. So, he picked her up and placed on her back, pelvis elevated. And was shaving and prepping while listening to my heartbeat. I was born 21 inches tall, 10 lbs 12 oz. The nurses said I could drive my mother home from the hospital. Though scared out of her mind, she kept her cool and things went okay from there. My mother had more guts and determination than most anyone I have met.

So, here's to brave mothers everywhere.

I've got a brisket smoking on the smoker, right now. Actually, it's a smoking grill with a side firebox. A small aluminum foil bowl to hold water for moisture, plus, I will moisturize directly, from time to time. Mesquite Kingsford charcoal and some mesquite grilling chunks. It will be wonderful.

I AM TAKING THE DAY OFF!!!!! (I can not believe I worked the first two days of a danged 3 day weekend -- I must be crazy -- but I got it DONE phew)

Then of course the danged newspaper CALLED me this morning and hung up just as I got the phone off the hook.  grrrr

Dog food today -- it's mostly made except for cooking the meat and mashing it all together.  Luna and Tink want me to get it in gear and quick mucking around with other less-food-worthy stuff like laundry!!

I think I'm going to be super brave and try riding my bicycle around the local park. You know, like I did successfully when I was 8 years old but am afraid to do now. :-p

LOL - I totally understand. I was fearless about things, except for heights, when I was young. I was on my bike all the time and never gave it a thought. I want to take up distance riding but just the idea of those clip on shoes/pedals freaks me out. My boss was teaching his wife how to use them and she clipped in before she'd gotten up enough speed and she couldn't get out fell and scraped herself up. No doubt - I'll do something similar. Wish I was close enough to join you. Nothing's as scary when you've got a buddy with you.

Today was supposed to be just rest and fun but I changed the sheets on the bed, did 2 loads or laundry, washed my car and just finished cleaning up from the big brunch I cooked. Maybe just 1/2 of today can be rest and fun?

Good heavens, Ron!!  OK, nothing to moan and groan about!  With Ryan I was fully prepared for a cesarian.  I had a central placenta previa and was the FOURTH person in medical history, to my doc's knowledge, to have the thing shift enough for a vaginal birth.  That was discovered at the US 3 days before I was to be admitted to the hospital for total bed rest for the final two months of pregnancy!  I had severe worry and stress and a marriage that was in the flusher for almost 4 months, but compared to your mom's experience, it was a walk in the meadow!  Yikes!  And you were not big, you were ENORMOUS!!

Still have not heard from oldest DS that he is on his way.....guess we'll eat when we eat and he'll get leftovers when he shows up.  Sigh.

    Happy Birthday to Glenda's DS!

Perhaps it would be an act of kindness to let the triple (2 guys and a gal) in a small pup tent know that when they have sex in a tent, they CAN be heard at least 10 camp sites away, and while it's wonderful for the gal that she brought a "refill" in the second guy, many of us dont' really care to listen to the sounds of "cooking" until 1AM.

I would have felt the urge to take Bev or Cher by their tent, & give them a bark command.

I am nursing a hangover. Yesterday, we bbq-ed with friends, & then decided to go dancing last night. The place that we went was PACKED! DH was in a pouty mood, & didn't want to dance, so I danced with, pretty much, every other guy therre. My shoulder is killing me today, but I had so much fun!

Clipless pedals are awesome. (They're called clipless because the cage-looking things are called toe clips.) You can adjust them so that it's easier to get out, but then sometimes your feet slip off when you don't want them to. I'd suggest to start out with them loose then tighten them once you get used to them.

I got a nice 1.5 hour nap this afternoon! It's rare that both kids nap at the same time. Willa is still asleep, actually. And now that I look at the clock I suppose I should go wake her up. If she naps longer than 2 hours she doesn't sleep well at night.

There are some awesome bike trails around here and DH and I are agreed that by next spring, we'll have bikes.

Jan, so glad you got a nap!

I had a nice several hours long benadryl nap. I finally woke up at about 5. Now I'm thinking of some dinner, but I don't think I should drive anywhere to get something. I should have thought about this earlier, or I should go convince someone to go somewhere.

Do they look like webbing that just goes over the toe of your foot? If so, that's what DH used up until this last year. He had the same fear as me about the clip in type plus he didn't want to spend the money on the special shoes. He says the true clip in give him a little more leverage but I'm not out to break any records, so I think your idea is perfect.

Glenda - I hope your son has arrived by now. You've been anxiously awaiting his visit for long enough now.

DH has run in to some problems with the wiring on the new bike. For example, even when the key is completely out, the lights stay on - eek. He's been troubleshooting it and might be close to a fix but it's been kind of painful to watch him trying to sort out a bunch of tiny, colored wires.

I say this every holiday but man, I sure do love 3 day weekends!!!

Cita I was too worried about him eating wasps - it was the poison that was sprayed on the nest I was worried about BUT he seems OK.

In fact we just had a Bugsy move - we blocked the doggie door that leads from the porch to the free world because a friend was coming by and we didn't want him charging the car to greet them.  So she pulled in the drive, he realized who it was and he leaped over the footstool in front of the doggie door, hit the porch door which swung open, but instead of going out of the opening door he dove through the doggie door as the door was swinging open, so he nearly crashed into the house windows but didn't.  Now one could say is a bull in a china shop and no doubt he is but he is a darn agile bull LOL = INSANE

Cleaned the porch which looks lovely now and going to make a pizza for dinner

Well I've only had about 3 hours of sleep and I'm determined to stay awake til later tonight to get up early to take Cadey to the vet before I go to work. Ended up going to the parade with Blue he didn't like the band, but loved the tractors and old cars when they honked had tons of people wanting to know what Blue was plus petting him. He did fine until it came to this one vehicle that had all kinds of horns one sounds like a train horn and dukes of hazzard horn. That's when he start his screaming and howling so got even more attention from the people around us. We went to the park after the parade was done where they had a little event of music and food. Blue loved it he got even more pets and he even got chicken from this sweet old lady. Just need to remind myself next time if I'm going to take him to the parade to brush him out big time especially if he's blowing his coat. Which reminds me to find that slicker brush since he decided of all days to start really blowing his coat.

Well I'm off to let the dogs out to enjoy some time outside, give Blue brush out, and later on start cleaning my house.

I just took a trip to IKEA with DS #1 who needed a dresser.  On the way to his place I could see that west bound I-80 was backed up as far as you could see and the same with the section that splits off toward Reno.  We had lunch, did some shopping and it was still that way, so I happily added 8 to 10 miles onto the return trip and just took the old river road home. I wouldn't take that way in the dark, the fog or rain, but none of that applies to today.  Everybody in the state must have gone up to Tahoe for the weekend and decided to return home at the same time. Tongue Tied

Sigh.  Cathy, Mike says between 7-7:30.  Realistically, given Mike time, that's probably going to be closer to 9.

I really do get that he's had a life there for years and that people want some of his time, but, he's been there for 8 days.  That should be plenty of time for everyone to see him.  In the meantime, youngest son has hurt feelings that big brother isn't here yet, so he's taking that out on me in general over all pissiness.  Kids!  No matter how old they get!

And you were not big, you were ENORMOUS!!

The nurses, when they put me on the baby scale, said, "Yep, football player."

I did play football in 9th grade. Nose guard and right defensive tackle.
