    Happy Labor Day Chat

and 31 years ago today I labored HARD to bring my 2nd son into the world......

Being up this early was certainly not part of my plan for the day, but here I am.  Not so bright eyed and we won't discuss my tail!

I sincerely hope that the folks shooting off guns all evening had a wonderful time.  Target practice this close to a campground, for that long, and with that intensity is really not cool.  Perhaps it would be an act of kindness to let the triple (2 guys and a gal) in a small pup tent know that when they have sex in a tent, they CAN be heard at least 10 camp sites away, and while it's wonderful for the gal that she brought a "refill" in the second guy, many of us dont' really care to listen to the sounds of "cooking" until 1AM.  Perhaps it would be a kindness, or perhaps it would be laughed at or appreciated that they did have an audience.  I do hope too that the folks with THREE campsites between them who feel the need to converge in the road in front of my RV, thus blocking dog access in or out, who were unable to take the hint even when we tried to back a car out, got all caught up on their chat and enjoyed their weekend.  And just maybe we saved this or another campground from destruction by fire, when we nicely explained that if you drag a 10 food chunk of tree out of the woods, you really can't stick one end in the fire pit and let it burn it's way down, not safely anyway, and shared our coping saw so said chunk could be cut into safe sizes.

And I'm thrilled that by noon today all these fine folks will be going AWAY!!  Ye GADS.  But, we made it through the weekend, and for the most part, people were fine, if somewhat less than considerate.  And, had Todd been just a minute or two earlier to take his shower, he would have at the least had an eye feast.....THREE women were coming out of the mens showers when he went down!  LOL!

    So, phew!!

And DS texted me to start calling him at 7:30 to get him up and on his way HERE.  That should be fun times!  But, hopefully it will insure that he actually GETS here today.  I think he's about 4 hours from here.  And, in case no one has guessed, I'm very anxious to see him!

So, there you have my early morning contribution.  Have a great day everyone!

Glenda - Happy Birthday to your DS#2!!   Just think, one day in the near future, you'll be sitting comfortably in your living room with friends telling the stories of your days at the campgrounds and laughing happily!!

I'm completely out of the loop of what's been going on around here. So *hugs*, *health* and *luck* vibes to all that need them!!!

It's going to take just a little bit of time before I start laughing happily about the campground!  It really is a nice place, and during the week, its a great place to be.  Weekends, not so much, but I do try to see that from the point of view of the weekenders, who are just here to have fun, and not from us "old folk long termers" POV.  I noticed yesterday that 4 or 5 of the folks that summer here from FL had packed up and left for the weekend!  Smart people!

And......good news!  I gave DS #1 his wake up call and he was already up, sitting in the kitchen and waiting for the coffee to brew.  So, just maybe I'll see him before sundown.  I should have known tho, and shouldn't be surprised.  Mike was born 10 days late, Ryan 3 WEEKS late (and yep, we're sure because he was a high risk pregnancy and I had US on a very regular basis) and they both seem to have inherited the sperm donors lack of sense of time.  LOL

I'm in my pj's, wearing a flannel shirt, and about ready to go back to the bedroom and snag a blanket!  Yikes!  It is really chilly!  I love mornings like this, but, brrrr!

     WOHOOOOOO!!!!! and yeeeeehawww!

    That is all!

    lol, Julie!

Glenda, it will be over soon! Hang in there!!!!

I have a huge cooking dilemma and I don't know what to do. I've never used a gas oven before, but my new place has one, and I want to make muffins for breakfast. But when I turned the oven on, the ionization smoke detector went BALLISTIC, even though I couldn't smell anything and I had a couple of windows open anyway. I don't know how to tell if it's a false alarm, or if I'm going to blow myself up by using the stove!! Anyone have any insights? I turned the oven off and the smoke detector eventually stopped screaming...

I've used gas appliances my entire life (absolutely cannot stand electric!).  Gas companies add something to natural gas to give it a smell because it is otherwise odorless.  If it is leaking, you should smell that sulfur, rotten eggs smell.  Is the oven dirty?  Like with stuff that could be burning when it's heating up?  Are all the pilots lit?

    • Gold Top Dog
I have no idea about the pilots, but the stove burners are working fine! I can't smell much, just a faint bit of gas smell when it's first on, and then if I open the oven door while it's on there's a very faint smell of burning dust. The oven isn't spotless, but it looks mostly stained, not like there's actual burning gunk in there. And it does heat up.

If the oven heats, then, yep, the pilots are lit.  Sometimes those stains are burnt on grease and will continue to smell.  If in doubt, call your landlord.

I'd call the landlord too. It could be that whatever they used to clean it is burning off and it's just enough to set off the detector. I'm a huge fan of gas appliances too and I'm betting you will be once you get this resolved.

I slept in until 7:30 today and although that might not seem like a big deal to many people, it's at least an hour longer than I usually sleep. I feel fantastic too and other than a little bit of cleaning, I plan to thoroughly enjoy this day off.

Glenda - happy BD to your #2 son. Party!!!

Cita it sounds to me that it is just stuff burning off in the oven - guessing it didn't see much action from the previous tenant. Definitely worth a call to the landlord though.  As Lies said if it was leaking gas you would seriously smell it.

Our excitement this morning went like this.  DH went out to collect the wasp nest he sprayed and knocked down yesterday.  Can't find it.  Asked me if I moved it Hmm.  Then says you don't think Bugsy ate it do you? AAAAHHHH!

We are generally fortunate with him in that he doesn't eat much weird stuff but a wasp nest would likely be something he would at least chew up.  He seems fine but we are keeping a close watch on him.  I am furious with DH as he should know better at this point and should have cleaned it up after knocking it down.  He at least admitted that now.

It is another really nice day - not sure what I'll tackle today but I do know I see some more porch time today.  It is so wonderful to be able to use it and not be sweating profusely LOL

Thanks, everyone!! I tied Rascal to my back porch (lol) and tried turning it on again, to see if the smoke detector would go off again... so far, so good! I guess it was just random oven crud. I am making a big batch of fattening banana-coconut-walnut muffins - you all have earned a share, so come on down for some tasties! :-D

Karen, that's so scary! Wouldn't B have stings around his mouth if he'd eaten it, though? Oy vey. I hope you're putting DH on "does anything weird come out" poop watch duty!

Today is one of those days I just want done!  No sense in having a day off, it's cold, dark, and rainy here.  Nikon has x-rays on Wed. and my new puppy is due tomorrow.  I just want today to hurry up and finish!

I' m feeling yucky. I was supposed to work some today, but I felt so bad last night I canceled that. My throat no longer feels horrible, but now I'm just so congested. I'm waiting for the Benadryl to kick in so I can go back to sleep.

    • Gold Top Dog
Feel better Griff. I'm all congested. Two of the clients I've had this weekends are smokers - yuck. My clothes and hair and skin stink and I can feel my sinuses close as soon as I come in.

First day of internship tomorrow! Hopefully for real this time.

I need to write a short review of an article I read last week. It's not due for over 2 weeks but it's such an easy assignment I feel like I should get it out of the way. No muffins for me until I do my homework, mkay?

    • Gold Top Dog
NO MUFFIN FOR YOU! ...though, you could have half now, and half later... :)

I think I'm going to be super brave and try riding my bicycle around the local park. You know, like I did successfully when I was 8 years old but am afraid to do now. :-p
