kpwlee's saga of the stray dog from MC- best update possible

    • Gold Top Dog

I'm on the forum so infrequently that I get way behind on what's going on with everyone.  I had to back-track to MC to find where you first posted about this sweet dog.  The last time I logged on was shortly after you shared the story about the poor dog who died.  Reading about "Red" has me feeling so many emotions -- many that you described already, but for you they have to be 1,000 times more intense since you're experiencing it first hand.

I don't know what to say that can be of any help . . . it must be so disheartening to think that taking him to the shelter could result in euthanasia.  But, I also know how hard it would be to decide to add a dog into your home when you weren't planning to.  This is when you wish a miracle would occur, and someone you know would just appear saying they're looking to adopt a special dog just like him.

Like Tina said, he'll know how it feels to be cared for and safe while he's with you, which is far more than he would've had otherwise.  Just feeling gentle hands and hearing kind voices for a short time will soothe him.  I'll be keeping him in my heart and crossing my fingers that things go as well as possible.  Please say some sweet words to him from me.

My friend Chris is in Drexel -- and she tends to have some awesome connections ... holler if you want me to get her connected with you.

Well he did great over night and was wagging furiously when I approached the crate this morning.  When I opened the crate and was clipping the line on him he sat patiently.  He must be someone's dog

He was initially happy to see Bugsy too but he gets overwhelmed with Bugsy and tells him off so he is back in his crate for now and B is doing his normal morning stuff.  Red did consider playing for a moment Smile

I'll take them for a walk later.

He does have a gunky right eye - is this likely contagious? It was cute I took a wet paper towel to wipe it and at first he flinched then decided he liked it.

LOL just checked on him and he is lying in a totally relaxed pose in the crate, looking towards the house meanwhile B is stupid hyper and in constant motion.

Even if we were thinking of adding a dog this wouldn't be it - he and Bugsy are way too opposite.  They are a poor match - even considering that this fellow is stressed, it is clear he just wants to hang out and get pet a lot.  Two things B has no interest in.

I hope that things continue to be simple and that the hardest task is keeping B from overwhelming all of us!

I've emailed everyone I know that is local with the info I have a a pic.  Hopefully something will come through.

We got back from a walk with my nut job and 'Red' and he wanted back into his crate.

He is eating well but doesn't drink, I am going to add some broth and see if that helps.

Honestly Dawn I was fairly conflicted about catching & holding him, worried about Bugsy and then concerned about how to manage but the recent death of that other dog pushed me into action.  I also had and have the support of DH which is essential.

If it's an eye infection, probably.  What color is the gunk?  Grey is normal, green or yellow tint to it is not.  Once you handle him (wiping his eye), be sure to wash your own hands.  Because even if you don't transfer it to Bugsy, you could transfer it to his other eye.  Not always, esp if the gunk is a reaction to a foreign body in his eye, but if it's a true infection like conjunctivitis, yes, it's transmittable and "contagious".

I checked this thread first thing to see how things are going. I hope you can find someone to take him!

at first he was freaked by the camera - no flash just me holding it.  I bought him a little toy and he was afraid of that too but enjoyed a busy bone Big Smile

Body shot - coat and tail look like lab to me

yea the spare parts will be removed shortly- $40 at the SPCA clinic

I wish that Bugsy would be more calm - every time they are together he just overwhelms this guy. Its getting better in that Red is getting more tolerant and considers playing but it always winds up a with a growl from Red.  I would love to bring him into the kitchen but Bugsy will go nuts - happy nuts but too nuts.  If I crate B upstairs he will go unhappy nuts so for now trying to give him as much time as we can out of the crate BUT its still raining and he doesn't want to be out in the rain, sigh.
