You don't have to put it on each leaf of the weed.  A good dab on one or two leaves will do it.  It travels down thru the arterial system of the plant and kills the whole thing.  I do agree that this would be a good project for Tina's son. lol

Yes it would be a very good "volunteer" job for your son!  I have used this method many times myself!  It works great.   I have a neighbor that has recently tried something new recommended by the Agri Dept at UofA.... I cant remember the name of it but it kills crabgrass and weeds and doesnt effect trees or flowers or veggies.  I know this is hard to believe but my neighbor makes a living growing flowers and it is working!   He has tested it around his sunflowers and zinias and glads and they are flourishing while the crabgrass is dying.   I will watch it for a few more weeks then report back with the details.  He bought this at the Farm store and it was a little pricey but if it continues to work it would be well worth it.

My legs are killing me, I have a black n blue arm thanks to me because I left my keys in the car yesterday so I stuck my arm as far as it can go and now black n blue thank god some old little man help me :) everyone else just walked passed n looked.

Getting worried living on my block have a drug dealer directly across from me which the people next to them get their drugs from this house and so does a house two doors down from me well my next door neighbor put up camera's because someone has been killing his plants he suspected who was doing it and well now he has proof of who it was or is. Plus the kid across the street is in on it as well with the older lady who's doing it.

I have a feeling she's doing it because he might of harmed one of her stray cats, she the cat lady her granddaughter once told them she had 20 cats in her house Tongue Tied or the lady might get pissed that the neighbor goes around shooting squirrels.  So this lady has been spraying something on their plants so has the kid and also has broken some of the guys planters.

I had to go out the other night and tell the drug dealers to stop slamming their car doors at 2am and then again at 4am they go from one door to another just opening and slamming this happens a lot Angry

What a block I live on lmao.Tongue Tied

Is it the 11th yet I can't wait to have my luau party Paradise

    Have a good weekend.

Tina, when I was a kid, we had these hand trimmers that were on a 3' long stick with wheels at the end.  You grasped the handle at the top of the stick, and it would close the scissors down on the ground, and you just kept wheeling away at each new set of weeds without having to bend or stoop down to cut.  I think it was originally for grass.  OH, yep, one of these:

(from a website called GearAbility.com - to give credit for the image)  They call them long-handled grass shears, and I can see they even make/sell them today - Fiskars 9210, but no wheels.

Paige, you're brilliant!  I looked up the Fiskars website and they link you to stores that you can order them from, or have shipped to your friendly, nearby hardware store.  Some stores even have the old-fashioned scythes, which I didn't think were available any more.  I'll have to check around.

Not that I don't think the Roundup is a good idea, though I'm hoping not to poison the creatures in the process.  I guess we'll see.

Thanks, everyone!  Gosh, we learn so much here. Geeked

Holy crap!  DS just called me and said "guess who is filming a movie in Ann Arbor?  Richard Gere!!!"  I've had a crush on him forever, so I told DS to go get his camera and take some pictures.  Not like it's gonna make him late for work or anything.

Aww, I figured only my mom thought that. Wink  I saw they have some with even bigger shears - which I imagine would be good if the weeds you have are especially tough/thick.  Shoot, there's even electric ones, but I'm sure if you were looking to spend that money, you'd have already invested in a weed-whacker.

I get out an hour early today, and still get paid for it! woohoo.  It's 94 degrees out right now, but tomorrow should only be around 85 - perfect for laying outside by the pool... granted, that's the dog's kiddie pool, but I take what I can get.

Wow, Richard Gere!  That's so cool!

I'm feeling a bit better this afternoon...maybe the selzer is helping.  MusicPlop, plop, fizz, fizz...Oh what a relief it is. Music Stuck song of the afternoon.  LOL

Wish me luck...DH and I are having a conference call with my sisters this afternoon.  Was going to be a face to face tomorrow, but Sis#2's plans changed.  Fine with me...phone call is sufficient.  We'll be tossing out options:  Rotation schedule, Assisted Living Facility or remodel Mom (&Dad's) house in Houston with the potential of Sis#1 moving in and Mom moving in with her.  I honestly don't see that last one happening.  But, at least I'm glad we are starting dialogue for options.  Mom will be the decision maker as to what she wants to do, ultimately.

The more mechanical parts there are, the less chance I have of fixing things that go wrong with them.  It's a nice idea, though.  I've never had a weed whacker that doesn't have problems with the whipping wire breaking and tangling up, which means I'd probably give up on it and go back to my hand shears.  I have my strengths, but mechanical ability is not one of them.

Barbara, that's great news - a starting point, complete with ideas and dialogue.  Good luck!

Good luck, Barb.  You must both feel better to be getting the dialog started.  I'm glad your tummy's better.

Tina, that's too cool about Richard Gere.  I hope your son gets a pic of him.  But if not you can just rent a movie. lol

Karen, that was a cool video of the "maniac".  I did cringe when he slipped on the wet sidewalk a few times.

I know this is crazy, but my guy friend who I am visiting next weekend, back when he graduated high school, he joined the Army.  He was stationed in Honduras for a while.  Well, Richard Gere was there for a movie shoot, and my friend took several up-close pics of Mr. Gere, sent them to his aunt (my foster mom) so she could send them to me.  I think I had 4 or 5 pics.  I put them in a photo album with pictures I had from all over, but ex-DH took the albums when we divorced.  His next wife tore them out of the album and threw them away, so after he (ex-dh) died and I got the albums back, my beloved Richard Gere pics were gone.  Angry

I am not letting that happen this time.

    Good luck, Barbara!

Karen, when Bevo was a puppy, he would chase the water out of the hose.  As he matured, he realized that it was much easier to come to the end of the hose, & bounce up & down right there to "get" the water, instead of having to chase it all over.

I've had a pretty productive day.  My friend is in rehab, which is something that she has needed for the past 5-6 years.  I went to the shelter & took pics of their new arrivals, so that they can get them up on their website.  And, Bevo, Schatzi, & I had a lunch date.  Bev & Schatzi are the perfect lunch dates because neither mooches, but they both pay attention in hopes that I'll miss my mouth & they'll get a bite.  Today, Schatzi scored some avocado, & Bevo had a slice of jalapeno.  They were both totally happy with the nibbles that they got.  As I was finishing up, a woman stopped by our table to ask if Schatzi was Bev's puppy.  Indifferent

Shooter should be happy, he'll have another dobe to play with.  LOL

Do you think jalapeno peppers contribute to the dobergas?

    • Gold Top Dog

Jackie, we all agreed not to tell Shooter.  Lord knows he'd be pissed & offended that someone mistaked Schatzi as a dober, & he'd kick her butt for it.  He's a lot like Moose the Cat.....

I am fairly certain that just breathing contributes to dobergas.

Funny story from this morning....I have been talking with the owner of the dog that Bevo donated blood to on Tuesday.  Her little dog is doing much better right now, & she was telling me how he had so much more energy after the transfusion.  I told her that the improved energy level was to be expected with the transfusion.  Then, she said that he has also had horrible gas since getting blood.  I told her that's what happens when you get doberman blood.  You get the dobergas that goes along with it!
