Mindless Friday - Tiki Time !!! Deb W.

Well it's another beautiful day here, so I'm taking off and heading back down the shore to my favorite Tiki bar.  Hope you guys all have a great weekend!!!!!

Its a beautiful day here too; although its gonna be a hot one weather wise.  Me.  Not feeling so hot today...I think I've got some kind of stomach bug.  Feeling kind of gross...perhaps I should be the designated driver today.  Save me a seat at the Tiki bar, but its seltzer for me today.  Ick!

Tiki bar sure does sound great right about now! As per usual, we're going to be cramming in two activities tomorrow; maximizing the day. A visit with the SO's mom and my reunion. I'm looking more forward to visiting with his mom, who is the sweetest and kindest person I have ever met. After experiences with my exes parents lol, I really and truly APPRECIATE how nice this woman is (there are stories I could tell about a couple of exes Mom's!). She and their Dad (who passed away unexpectedly this past Fall) raised two great sons (my SO's brother is my age, maybe a year older). Both her sons' girlfriends adore her Big Smile  You can't help it.

I really really really have no motivation to work. I have so much to do to start wrapping up my month, but no desire to lift a finger. Meh!

    Deb, enjoy the Tiki bar.

Barbara, feel better soon.  Stomach issues suck.

Sharon, have a great weekend.  The SO's mom sounds great.

I took off work because we were supposed to be going tubing today.  Apparently, plans changed & nobody remembered to tell me, so the guys are off fishing & I got to sleep in.  I have some things to get done around the house, & a few other matters that I need to take care of, so I won't complain about the last minute change in plans.  I needed a 3 day weekend.

Thanks for leaving me behind again, Deb.

Barbara, I hope you feel better soon.

I'm really embarrassed to say that city code enforcement left me a warning about my front yard having too many tall weeds.  I cut my grass every week, but I've got a bunch of those broadleaf weeds that shoot those little stalks up with the seed pods and they went crazy with the rain and heat this week.  I have a reel mower, which does not cut the stalks at all.  So I went outside with clippers and my neighbor with the husky saw me, then came down to offer me the use of their power mower.  The husband came over and ended up mowing the front for me. That was so nice.

I hate using weed killers because of the birds, earthworms, and other wild life.  I tried vinegar, which did nothing to these weeds.  The problem with me and a regular mower is that I'm extremely mechanically challenged.  So I dunno, going to have to ponder what to do.  I already need siding in the worst way - don't want the lawn to be another issue.

I guess I'll continue my search for a 2nd job cuz I don't think I'm winning the lottery any time soon. Crying

Deb, have fun and knock a few back for me. lol

Sharon, you have fun too this weekend.

Tina, that was nice of your neighbor to mow your weeds.  You can put use a paint brush to apply roundup directly to the weeds without getting any overspray elsewhere.  It does look kind of silly to be seen "painting" weeds but it gives the neighbors something to talk about.

Busy day here at work so I best get moving.

Barb, hope your tummy feels better soon.

Oh the paintbrush is a great idea. I burned a lot of my grass this year using round up on some weeds.

TGIF - although it doesn't feel much like a friday

    The weather is gorgeous!

    More traveling for me today.

    • Gold Top Dog

Deb I wanna go to the Tiki Bar too......  I cant tell you how happy I am that it is Friday.  I dont get my 3 day weekend til next week.

Auburn, I will conceed...you win!  I dont have any "Greats" yet, :)

Tina that is awesome about your neighbors helping out!!!!  You should make them a cake or something!   We are so lucky here, we all help our neighbors and they have never hesitated to give us a hand when needed.   I do think living rural makes you tend to rally round the community is someone is needing assistance.

Glenda, hope your traveling is about over and you guys can rest up.  Cant wait to hear how the job thing is going!

Today is my grandson's 16th birthday, sure  doesnt seem like he should be that old.  Seems just a few years since we waited 36 hours of labor and such a difficult birth for my baby girl and the this beautiful grandson finally entered the world. Crying  Time just goes by so quickly!

Vinia...sorry you are having such difficulty but it does sound like you might be ready for a little break and sometimes absense makes the heart grow fonder.   If it was meant to be it will last and make it through the separation.

Well that is all I can remember, hugs to those that need it!

I couldn't look any dumber than I would using hand shears to cut all the stalks.  What parts do you paint?

Ironically, the neighbor between me and the other, the one with the riding mower, just happened to go out on his rider when I was getting outside and do you think he offered?  Nope.

I will have to come up with something to do for them, though the husband said we were even since I kept their husky from running away when I found her loose.

Maybe I'm not getting a good picture of things but I can't imagine hand painting on weed killer on each weed. Do you only have a few? If so, maybe pulling them would be easier. Hey, isn't your son moving back in? This might be the perfect project for him, no?

Woke up to pouring rain this morning. I couldn't believe and had to ask DH "what's that noise?" It was nice and refreshing but hadn't been forecast and I'm sure it caught a lot of people by surprise. We generally don't get any rain in the summer here. My flowers are gonna love this.

Our Board mtg went from 12 to 4:45 yesterday. Normally they last about 2 hours but things kept coming up and no one could come to agreement on anything. It was painful both to my rear end and my brain and I was a wet noodle by the time I left. I also didn't get anything else done yesterday, so I'm going to have to stay focused to get caught up today. One funny positive was that I had an email when the meeting was over telling me that our VM box was full. None of the people who'd called during the meeting were able to leave a message Stick out tongue

Well, it looks like I have a lot when the stalks pop up, but it's really only about 1/4 of the front yard.  You're right, though.  DS will need stuff to do since he's going to earn his keep.  I bet this will motivate him to move out faster, painting weeds. Devil ROFL.

You don't have to put it on each leaf of the weed.  A good dab on one or two leaves will do it.  It travels down thru the arterial system of the plant and kills the whole thing.  I do agree that this would be a good project for Tina's son. lol

I feel like a heel that I missed this on Wednesday:

    Xebby
Well, I called the Domestic Violence Hotline...

Someone sent me an anonymous e-mail with a website and the number. If it was someone here THANK YOU!

I didn't realize how far the emotional abuse has gone or that there were things I wasn't picking up on were happening in front of my eyes. I talked and the more she helped me understand my situation the more comfortable I feel about leaving.

But I'm highlighting the whole thing because I think anyone else who might be lurking can read it and feel more empowered to just call and talk, if they think they might need help.  I'm so glad, Xebby!  So, so glad for you.  You have my strongest wishes for a happily independent life where YOU choose who is good and right for you, and don't put up with abuse because someone else tells you that's all you can get.  Not true.  SUPER HUGS!

Tina, when I was a kid, we had these hand trimmers that were on a 3' long stick with wheels at the end.  You grasped the handle at the top of the stick, and it would close the scissors down on the ground, and you just kept wheeling away at each new set of weeds without having to bend or stoop down to cut.  I think it was originally for grass.  OH, yep, one of these:

(from a website called GearAbility.com - to give credit for the image)  They call them long-handled grass shears, and I can see they even make/sell them today - Fiskars 9210, but no wheels.

There's a baby in the office right now and I just can't help myself.  She is sooooo cute.
