Amanda - I have to say, whenever I hear stories of your vet visits like that, it reminds me waaay too much of Animal Cops Houston. Of all the Animal Cops locations, Houston seems to have the most infuriating people who do the most blatantly revolting things with/to their animals.
We have tons of responsible pet owners too. Since we switched to the current vet, we seem to run into less idiots than before. I think it has something to do with the fact that they charge a little more than some of the other vets in the area, but it's totally worth it. (We have 2 vet clinics here, one with an excellent reputation, that require all "dangerous breeds" be muzzled before entering the waiting room, so I'll happily pay a little more for a doctor who my guys like, & who is comfortable with them.) I was really, really surprised that I got three in one day. Normally, we run into people who can't/don't control their otherwise healthy dogs. Yesterday was different.
DS has a new cast, & I found out why the old cast smelled so bad. He, his brother, & DH went fishing last Friday. (I went, but I'm not a fisherperson, so I worked on my tan.) They were using stink bait. DS decided that it would be smarter, & require less walking, if he stored a little of the stink bait in between his hand & the cast. Apparently, a little chunk broke off, & traveled a little too far up the cast for DS to reach. He's been wandering around with that nasty stuff up in his cast for 4 days. On the drive home, we had a discussion about the do's & don'ts of casts.
