Abbie needs your strongest vibes please

I do hope he will rule out HGE before you bring her home. HGE is not something that a dog should be brought home with. Piper's breeder lost her dog to HGE because she bled out before they could stabilize her. If I remember correctly, her vet said the lining of the intestine's slough off and they bleed out. If it is caught early enough, the dog can recover, but supportive care is essential. Prayers still coming your way.

Just seeing this and thinking about Abbie...

Is there anyone at your vet over night to watch her? For me that would be the deciding factor, if there is and they want to keep her, I'd leave her. But if there is no one there and they don't know, at least if you have her you can rush her to an e-vet if something happens.I'll be rooting for her this evening. Let us know how it goes ok?

Just a note that if a full basic panel is done in house, it will show the same vales as a send out blood work will. Most in house labs have the same equipment to do CBCs and all of the values (and many use the same machines) as the labs do. Now, when you want cultures, additional testing, UAs done, etc, a send out  panel is certainly helpful and allows other options. Send out panels aren't magic, just have different combinations of testing. Now if a limited panel (such as a liver panel or just a preop) is done it may not have all of the values, and doesn't usually include a cbc, but I would imagine with a dog so ill, the vet would have done a full basic, which would include everything.  The levels for both pancreatitis and HGE should have shown up in that unless it was really, really early.

I usually (except when Newt was sick and we needed immediate results) do send outs, simply because they have a discount for clinic employees and it comes out cheaper for me to do that. But, aside from that, everything is the same.

This would be the deciding factor for me too. I know you'll do the right thing though and I too would've opted for the surgery under those circumstances.  Sometimes it's good to go slow and conservative and sometimes you just don't have that luxury. Hugs to you and Abbie. I hope whatever was ailing her is done and she can just heal and get better.

I just picked abbie up from the vets. They were closing at 7 and nobody would be in again until 9 tomorrow so I asked if I can bring her home.

So, the vet sent me home with iv fluids (the vet tech gave me a crash course in how to work the equipment and such) and gave her something for vomitting and diahhrea.

She still has blow out diahhrea which is all blood. So I will have to be up with her all night to take her out frequently. I set up my xpen in the living room so she's laying in there sleeping right now.

Lily is freaking out though. She would not leave abbie alone when we first got home and she's laying by the xpen barking at my now and again.

Still no clue what set this off. I go back to the vet with her tomorrow morning so we will see.

In that case, I'm so glad you brought her home, you'll be able to better monitor her. That is so scary... I know you won't sleep at all. Have they given you any clue what it might be? Were they comfortable sending her home or did they worry about tonight? (as in how much blood is she losing?). I don't know your monetary situation, but if I were in your shoes, if I got nervous tonight I'd be bringing her in to an emergency specialist and not wait til tomorrow. Did they report anything about platelets to you from the panel? My advice to you ... follow your gut. If you are questioning her stability, bring her somewhere else if you can swing it, in fact, if you haven't done so already research the local places that are open 24/7 and have a list, phone number and directions so if you need to go, you don't need to think, just to act.

PS - I'd have opted for the exploratory surgery as well in your situation.

PPS - You've got the strongest vibes we can muster.
