M/C Tuesday

    M/C Tuesday

Everybody must be busy this morning.  I know I am.  Finished one credit card statement yesterday, two left to go.  I've already had a gazillion phone calls and have a list for a memo.  Two of the owners will be together today, so that means a hundred more phone calls and a 3-page memo by the end of the day. I'm going to need the long weekend to recover for sure.

My eye itches...due to allergies.  I just want to scratch it, a lot.  Am resisting.

So sorry about Tiki - continuing to thing of Meg.

    Lori, how is Willow today?

    Glenda?

Deb, is your headache gone today?

Everyone send job offer vibes DH's way!  He's done three interviews with a school, plus they've watched him teach.  This morning they invited him to come observe the students.  I can't think of why else they would do all of this if he wasn't a serious contender.

My summer plans are all unraveling.  The dog show I usually do with Nikon (was going to finish his UKC Championship and get a lure coursing title!) got bumped up a month and we're already going camping (which I don't really care about either way) so that's scratched.  Then I was soooo looking forward to my aunt coming in August. I never see her and she was going to come out and spend two weeks with us, but then for her job they are switching to a new filing system and her training is scheduled for that time.  To top it off, Bono jacked up his back and all of my U2 shows are getting scratched until 2011.

????  I dunno at this point, Tina.

Didn't hear the first word.  I'm thinking that DH's email, which gently reminded the dude how hot to trot he was earlier in the week and the round about allusion to the age thing (not looking for a place to coast...still very active, energetic and healthy) has thrown the guy into a bit of a quandry.  I'm pretty certain that HE isn't the issue....thinking it's more corporate.  So, we shall see.  DH wants this one, but, if it isn't meant to be it isn't meant to be.  False hope tho is rather cruel.  I'm just saying.....to anyone up there listening!

It is not as miserable today.  Can feel the difference in the air this morning.  Yesterday was 97 and soooooo blasted humid it felt like I was breathing wet cement.  Today at least is only supposed to be in the high 80's and am really hoping for the thunderstorms we *might* get.  Last Tuesday we had an hours long rain and it was just heavenly!

Guess I should do the "housework" ie, vaccing the bathroom where the cats track litter all over, before it gets too hot.

Megan, I'm so sorry you had to let Tiki go to the bridge....but it was her time.  Sux for those of us left behind.  Run free Tiki!

Amanda!  Yay for new pool!  That is so cool!  Fun, fun, fun!

Sending huge job offer vibes to your DH, Lies.

Jackie....get to work.  LOL  Big Smile

Good vibes to anyone who needs them.  I'm going to go watch Callie scamper.  Stick out tongue

Headache is all gone, thanks Tina.

Lies:  good luck for the hubster !!

    Glenda:  ditto.

Jackie:  isn't an assistant supposed to make your life easier??

Amanda:  way to go on  using sex to get a pool.

I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to make for the Memorial Day weekend.  I want to make a lot of stuff ahead of time so I don't have to spend my weekend cooking.

I cannot relate, but would certainly come over to help eat.  LOL

I may actually get struck by lightning for this.  Sunday I bought some groceries.  Cruised by the meat counter and although I don't eat steak very often, I was looking at the T-bones.  Well, one was mispriced - at $0.39/lb, so the steak was only $5.07.  Of course, I grabbed it!  I figured that the cashier would bust me, but she didn't even look.  I know it is dishonest, but it's not like I switched the tag or something. Zip it!

With my luck, the steak will catch fire on the grill and I'll be left with nothing.

I don't think it's dishonest at all.  It was priced what it was priced  . . . . so go ahead and enjoy !!!  Maybe some grilled fingerlings and asparagus on the side ????

Tina, I don't think that's dishonest. Profiting from someone else's mistake, perhaps, but isn't that pretty much the whole idea behind the stock market, for example? :-p

Deb, that sounds fun. What about... hmm, can you make deviled eggs ahead of time? Or, another of my favorites, is toothpick-kebabs with tiny little mozzarella balls, cherry tomatoes, and a small basil leaf on each one. Caprese on a stick! Yum yum. There's always standard picnic fare, like potato salad, that should keep for a day or two in the fridge. If there will be a BBQ involved, you could always marinate some meat ahead of time... mmmm, food. Can I come? :)

I'm still waiting to get lease documents for the apartment I want to rent... argh! They said they won't hold the place for anyone until they get the security deposit AND first month's rent, along with the signed lease. Okay, fine. So could I at least have the lease, so I can sign it and give you money? If they give the place to someone else, and my backup options have been rented out in the meantime, I am going to be UBER PISSED.

Thinking about Meg and how much Tiki must have enjoyed her last year. She couldn't have ended up in a better place. Run free, little one.

I'm working, I'm working!  OK, right this minute I'm not but I was, really I was. :)  Yes, an assistant should make life easier once she's trained.  I was such a bonehead yesterday I wiped out all the work she did and all the work I did.  Gee, maybe I should see if I could rent a brain for the next 15 or 20 years.  I'm sure she'll be thinking "this idiot is TRAINING me".   lol

Ok, Tina, I've heard of looking for a deal but how many steaks did you have to sort through to find that bargain? :)  I hope it was more than one steak or else it's big enough for Deb's Memorial Day bash. lol

Now for my news.  I didn't say anything yesterday because I felt what I did was futile.  It's the baby wrens I'm talking about.  When I found the nest turned over and the five babies on the ground, it was obvious that three were dead.  Two of them were moving and only had a few ants on them.  I picked the ants off and put the babies back in the nest.  I just couldn't bring myself to kill them but I figured they would die of the ant bites or be abandoned by the mama bird.  Yesterday when I got home I rushed to check the nest and she was sitting on it!!!  I still wondered if she was sitting on dead babies or had maybe laid new eggs.  I must have checked a hundred times and she was always sitting and I didn't want to disturb her.

Finally, this morning I looked and she was off and there is at least one live baby bird!!!  I can't see the entire inside of the nest so I don't know about the other one.  I know it may still end badly but at least there's a chance she can raise one or maybe two.  Now I have to decide if I should move the entire nest out of my back yard.  I read not to move while they were sitting on eggs but that SOMETIMES you can move the nest once they hatch.   Keep your fingers crossed for the little things.

Fingers crossed for your DH, Liesje.

Amazingly, it was the 2nd steak I looked at, and there were only about 6 on display.  Sadly, it's only enough for one, maybe 2.

    HOORAY for the wrens!

I hope the little bird(ies) make it! I wonder what tipped the pot over?

I suspect a certain black dog.  The nest is on a shelf on my back porch.  We used an ex pen and an old window screen (a trellis on one side keeps the dogs out) to make it inaccessible to the dogs.  I think when the dogs went out to potty yesterday morning Belle might have tried to get to the nest and bumped everything hard enough to knock the planter over. I'm just guessing but it's very likely this is what happened. Now I'm on full alert and don't let the dogs out unless I stay and supervise.  Belle has shown an intense interest in the area.  I can't get mad at her, she's just doing what comes natural.

I really wish summer would have snuck up on us instead of smacking us on the back of the head!  It's here...all of of a sudden.  The heat, the humidity, the threat of thunderstorms.  Yesterday we set a new record high.  95 degrees!  The old record was 85.  The AC at my job has been busted for the past 8 days...was finally fixed yesterday right before I left.  I'm off the next three days and my home AC works just fine  Smile

We are getting new gas fireplace inserts for both floors of the house.  This will replace a very old, now illegal, unit in the basement and put a new one on the main floor.  YAY !!!  Won't have to crank the thermostat to keep from freezing this winter.

A mason is coming this afternoon to cut into the stone so the fireplace surround will fit nicely.  Have to build a tent like structure to contain the dust and debris.

    Hugs to Meg and Willow.

Good luck vibes to Glenda and Coke's daddy.

In Belle's defense it may have been a cat................

Speaking of which my idiot neighbor and her adopted feral cat are making me crazy by making my dog crazy.  If I see that cat sitting under my other neighbor's (bordering our property riling the beast) bird feeders again...........I'm just saying..............

What is it with cat owners anyway?  This morning walking with one of the ladies we often walk with, we got to talking about beastie who is very worked up looking for cats constantly due to the proximity and regularity of the other one - and I said to her what is the difference between him hunting cats and cats hunting birds - she is a timid person and looked horrified, LOL Circle of live, love.  Don't come complaining to me if you choose to let your cat roam.

    OK rant over - breathe

It is dreary and showery - really?  Must be well over 6-7 inches of rain in the last week now - enough for now, really

DH was grumpy this morning - I need to find out of he is having hot flashes LOL

Tina nice buy on the steaks and I am impressed by your appetite - at .39/lb and at a total of over $5 that would be over a 10lb  steak! Enough for one?? LOL

    Alright must get busy again

    • Gold Top Dog

High today of 68 and 1/2 inch of rain or more predicted. They're calling it a winter storm, but shouldn't it be called a spring storm, since it's spring now?

Jackie - You are such an angel for caring so much for the baby birds. I hope your hard work and love pays off.

Good vibes for the DH's of Glenda and Liesje.

Thinking of Meg today and hoping she's doing okay.

After one day off, I have a ton of catching up to do. I also have a hair appt today, so feeling pretty stressed to get stuff done. I always forget how busy I am at this time of year with graduations and all. Maybe it's a good thing that I don't remember :)
