Folks I'm sorry everyone's in such a sucky mood -- but Gina telling about her survival of the "sleepover" really made me laugh so I'll try to make YOU guys laugh.
The thing with sleepovers, Mom- er Gina, is giggles are mandatory. It's PART of it. As is ... driving your parents nuts!!
The littlest "change" in usual procedure can delight. We used to want to "camp out" (I am NOT an outdoorswoman, but all my friends wanted to do it). But my mother didn't want to deal with that. But she DID let us take "sleeping bags" out on the ENCLOSED & LOCKED front porch area. completely enclosed. windows, etc. -- but it 'felt' like outside.
True story -- overnights produce imps. I was probably 15 or so -- and the "friend" I had over was actually my Dad's best friend's daughter (they lived far enough away so it was special to see her).
The day before was "clean the upstairs day" -- so Katie and I got to dust and change the bedding in my bedroom and my folk's room. And -- we were just being imps and decided it would be 'funny' to short-sheet my mother's bed. (she'd been teasing us -- which was typical). Now this is back in Ozzie & Harriet days -- my folks slept in twin beds. (*rolling eyes* I thot all of America did -- gee they did on TV!!)
Katie and I made up Mom's bed short-sheeted (You put the bottom sheet on normally- you tuck the top sheet in at the top just like it was a fitted sheet then fold the bottom up to the top and cuff that over the blanket like a normal top sheet -- but when they go to get in it they hit the fold in the middle?)
Remember -- I was 15 -- sex **particularly as it relates to PARENTS is just tooooooooooo ****EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW**** for words.
But of course, since we girls were "out on the front porch" my Dad picked that night to slip into Mom's bed to "wait" for her???
Let's just say there was no sense of humor in the upper story at all. Well, until my mother started to LAUGH at my father (who was completely P.O.'d by this time because he couldn't figure out why he couldn't get IN Mom's bed) -- and the he thot SHE knew (she didn't) so my folks had this granddaddy of a fight over OUR prank.
No -- prank gone wrong. but the WORST part of it was it brought me face to face with that completely UNACCEPTABLE mental concept that ... GAG ME ... my parents ... er ... um .... *I just decided die rather than SAY that*.
Katie thot it was ALL funny. So Mom and Dad were ticked off at BOTH of us.
Looking back 40 years? It's freaking hysterical. But was was the last time I short-sheeted my parents bed. LOL
