    Do you rollarblade?  If you are good at it, its really fun in the summer.  Cross Country skiing behind them on trails is fun as long as you can let go when they decide to run you up a tree!!!  Do you live in the country or in the city?

    I havn't roller blade for a long time (several years) so I'm not sure if I'm good at it anymore or not.
    lol, has any of your dogs run you into a tree? I don't ski, or snowboard.
    And I live in a city, regrettably. But I wish to move to the country as soon as I can (mininum, two years).

    Well actually only one of my dogs is old enough to pull right now.  The other 2 were only born in November so they missed last season.  Crusher is thier older sibling and he turned 1 on April 10, so he was doing some light pulling last winter.  He was just learning so he really didn't have enough freedom to pull me up a tree but my friend that owns his brother and lives in the country, went up several.  She also has 2 older dogs that pull.  They catch on to the pulling part really quickly but Gee and Haw kind of misses them for the first bit.  Both of us have been having a bit of trouble with training our leads as the only recommendations we have gotten on lead training is to get  your existing lead to train the new lead before you retire them.  Not too helpful when your just starting your team.

    hmm . ..  the dogs must have been having a blast running up their owner up the trees.

    Anyway, I thank all you that joined my forum. What do you guys think of it so far?

    Do your research and you should be.  Seriously check out The Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson.  Its a great read and very informative.  It makes you understand why dogs are the way they are.

    I'll be sure to do all the nessacary research before I get a husky.

    My friend had a husky, be ready to get a lot of exercise.

    You can also get a bike and have a adult husky pull you. But you could start out a puppy with a lawnmower tire and work up to a car tire. Under load, a husky team can pull 200 pounds at 20 mph for 40 miles, approximately. Unloaded, they can run 30 mph and love to do it. You can also build a dog cart. Or get a pull along wagon that you can steer. The trick is to teach directional commands.

    Hike = go
    haw = left
    gee = right
    hook = stop

    A person who drives a huskies when pulling is called a musher. It's even better if you have access to land that does not have a lot of traffic or loose dogs.

    Huskies eat different than other dogs. And they are an athletic breed with tons of energy. For their size and weight, they are some of the fastest strongest dogs in the world.

    Ron2,
    thanks for the tips, although I may not be able to get a team of huskies for several years. I'll be sure to memorize these commands.

    Thanks.

    It's been said that huskies are like potato chips. You can't have just one. Good luck with whatever you do.

    • Gold Top Dog
    [:D] I can attest to that!!!
    • Gold Top Dog
    lol, like potatoe chips huh? I never heard about that on huskies but it may be true for me. . . . I'd like to get a team of huskies but that won't be for a while, sadly.
