LMAO.  I was talking about Ron!  I hardly know you!

Oh, d@*n. I feel stupid. Okay, i thought you were making fun of me. Eh, let's just forget about that post, [;)].

    What post?

I'd never just get rid of a dog because its ill behaved, if it was, then I just need to do a bit more 'harsher'

Training is not supposed to be harsh (or "harsher"), it's supposed to be fun!!!!!!
Before you get your dog, hang around these sites for a while:

And, instead of trying to get a breed that is closest to the wild, start off with a more biddable, easy to train breed that you will learn dog behavior from.  Then, later, you will have the required knowledge to deal with a more difficult breed.

Hey Whitefox! Welcome to idog. I think your website is really cool-  Its neat that you care so much about animals, as long as you don't REALLY want to keep a bunch of foxes and wolves in captivity. They definately belong in the wild[;)].

I agree that you should adopt a dog- if you like the "wild animal" look then a husky is a great choice! But I hear they can be a lot of work. Hope all works out for you.

BTW, I am 16 too!! I learn a lot hear on idog because just about everyone is older than me and has much more experience. You should stick around!

    Thanks for the compliment.
And to tell everyone, that I would actually never own a fox nor wolf, true, they do belong in the wild and prefer it to be that way.
I'll be sure to stay around here for a while.

Sometimes he likes to ramble on a bit, and it gets kind of boring.

Don't hold back, tell me how you really feel. My feelings were replaced some time ago with a thumping gizzard. I would suggest whitefox read my siberian husky thread in the breed section that, btw, you made me start.
I could go one but that would be long-winded and boring. I agree with Anne, that he should pick an easily trainable breed. I'm a little disturbed that his family is prone to get rid of animals. You think cats are a pain in the neck. They got nothing on huskies.

    • Gold Top Dog
Well, I think cats are a pain in the neck because I really don't care about them. I don't really try to train them anything. But dogs won't be such a pain in the neck because they'll be fun to train and fun to be around.

Ron I really was kidding.  I enjoy learning what I have from you.

WhiteFox, while i agree that training a dog is much funner than training a cat, huskies need a different kind of training than most dogs.  Because before you can even think about a training session for the day you have to take them out for an hour of running.  However, if there are so many people in your family, and ALL of them are in this together, then the exercise requirements should be easy enough to meet.  Are you the oldest of your siblings?
    • Gold Top Dog
I'm not very athletic but I can easliy run for an hour, espeically if I'm wearing really light shoes or none at all. So I think that a husky would be plenty exercised with me and my siblings, as you said.
I'm second youngest, though maybe the most matured.

One thing to definitely consider in getting a husky is the amount of exercise or work they need. For example, get them something to drag or pull on walks. This will help release that incredible energy and will make them happy.

Something to drag or pull? Like what?
    • Gold Top Dog
Like a cart in the summer or a sled in the winter.  You have to start smaller than that though.  Like with a small log, just so he gets used to something followin him.  Then gradually increase the weight. My biggest dog can pull me on a pair of skis in the winter.  I can't wait till next winter when I can hook up all 3.

And easily running for an hour is one thing, but can you run at 20 mph?  cause a husky can.  You'd never keep up.
    • Gold Top Dog
yeah, I probaly couldn't keep up if the husky was going that fast.

Do you rollarblade?  If you are good at it, its really fun in the summer.  Cross Country skiing behind them on trails is fun as long as you can let go when they decide to run you up a tree!!!  Do you live in the country or in the city?
