Does your dog sleep through the night??

Does your dog sleep through the night??

My 2 yr old min pin has lost all interest in sleeping at night. This is a fairly new thing for her to do as she used to sleep all night. I don't know what to do except crate her. If just let her be she is constantly in and out of my bed and since she is tiny she whines to wake me has to have me "catch" her to get back up into bed (she does have a step, but won't use it if its dark). I guess she is just not as wore out by bedtime as I am.

I have a 7 month Min Pin and anytime she sleeps with us she gets up and down all night too....we crate her at night and she has to be crated in another room or she wines the entire time.  It doesn't matter how much we try to wear her out before bed.  I would just continue to crate your dog at night so that you can get some rest.

ETA: By the way, Welcome to the board...the price of admission is pictures!!!

Yeah, I hate crating her at night but if she doesn't sleep I don't think I have a choice. Thanks for the welcome! Your pups are adorable! I used to have pic's on when it was idog.com but I guess they are gone. I will work on getting something up!

I also have a min.pin. and he sleeps through the night and the next day, no problem. LOL. I have to make him get up. Sorry no help here.

My dog sleeps in his crate all night.   I have not allowed him to sleep with us and the crate works well for us.

My min pin pup (1 year old) sleeps with me through the night no problem. Even after she eats breakfast in the morning, she goes right back to bed. Although, she is not two years old like your pup, so I hope I don't have sleepless nights to look forward to! [&:]

I would crate your pup. Or perhaps teach her there is a place in your room where she belongs at night. If there are nights that I don't want my dog in bed, or she moves around too much, I tell her to go in her "house". Then she will stay there. It's kind of like home base for her in the bedroom.

lgoetz-I love that little house.  Where did you find that?  I want to get one for my dogs!

This post is so timely for me.  Currently, I am staring at my computer screen at work, a complete zombie, because our 8 month old pup has kept us up all night for the past three nights.

She sleeps with us in the bed (she had some health issues as a wee one and we had to moniter her at night) and she CONSTANTLY jumps on and off.  She scrathes at the bedroom door and generally drives us mad.  In fact, the other night she jumped down, left the bedroom (which we left open by accident) and got into the garbage and ate chicken bones.  AAACCCKKK!  This has also led to her not holding her bladder through the night.  She just goes to the door and expects to be taken out when the fancy strikes her.  It sucks.

My partner and I decided this morning that it is time to bring back the night time crating (health problems have passed, thankfully).  I also plan to place her in the living room if she whines.  We may try to break her in gently, but I'm actually not even sure how we would do that.  Wake after a few hours and bring her back to the bed?  Perhaps cold turkey is better.

If anyone has any advice I would be grateful.

Sarah - when Lucy was a puppy she discovered my parents' dog "house" for their Chihuahua...she LOVED it! But they bought it years ago, and didn't remember where. I searched and searched to find once for Lucy then just gave up...until I found that one at KMart! I couldn't believe it. I think it cost $8. Hope you can find one there, you may have to keep checking. They are really nice - they velcro together and you can fold them down.

Komireds - if your pup is having housebreaking issues, or getting into the garbage, then I would certainly suggest using a crate. I was thinking of a special place for the pups only if they were restless.

Thanks LGoetz!  Just curious, are there any tags or anything else on the dog house that might indicate a brand name or anything else?  I will search the internet for one.  All of the KMarts in Fort Worth closed so I will have to find it online probably.  It looks so nice and comfy!

Komireds-I would also suggest trying a crate.  They usually do not want to potty where they sleep.  Izzy whines all night so she is in our living room, but Harley was always able to sleep in his crate in our bedroom.  If I were you, I would do it also to keep your pup from getting into stuff.  Put some toys in there with it and if it doesn't want to sleep it will at least be occupied.  I have always given a mind toy with a treat as well to make going into their crate a good experience and give them something to do to keep them busy for awhile.

Has anything changed in your home or in your routine?   Anything that could make her restless?  Is she getting enough exercise during the day?  You said that maybe she's not as worn out as you by the end of the day - maybe you're right!

I think it could be a different issue for a puppy not sleeping through the night vs. a 2 yr. old adult dog (like kalishea has). Sudden changes in behavior sometimes reflect a health problem. Kaleshea, have you had your dog thoroughly checked out at a vet recently?

Eevee sleeps next to my bed on her bed, and when she crashes she doesn't wake up till the next morning lol...

Yes, we are intimately familiar with the wonders of the crate.  She slept in the crate at night until she had health problems that needed to be monitered.  Now I think she is ready to return.  I wonder if we can gradually break her back into it at night, or if cold turkey is the best approach.

Ours sleep through the entire night unless there is an unknown noise outside in the middle of the night. Other than that they sleep until they hear the alarm on my cell go off and they run down the hallway to tell me good morning.
One of the pups we sold to our friends is ready to go to bed at 9 pm sharp every evening. He starts to bark at his owners if they are not ready for bed.
When we have him he hardly sleep at all thou. He cries for them almost the entire night.
