    Opinions needed . . . . Deb W. *****Update Page 4*****

My nephew is getting married this July.  The wedding will be held at a very small chapel at some private school the MOTB works at.  The reception is being held at a B&B near the school.  I am so not a dress person - usually the best I can muster is a skirt with a tee shirt like top.  Since I stopped smoking a gained a gazillion lbs, I am currently wearing a 14 or 16 depending on the cut.  What do you guys think of this dress??  Is it too informal for a July wedding - do you think I'll look like a walking salad bowl because of  my size???  All opinions welcome - don't hold back.

I like it, Deb.  If you're worried about it being too informal just slap some pearls on & you're good to go.  What time of day is the wedding?  That would be my only concern.  I'm thinking if you're like me you also gained some tatas along with your weight & that dress could do nicely to enhance your new found boobies.

well alrighty then! LOL. I think it might be just the tiniest bit too busy pattern wise? Now summer weddings are nice...you can wear something light and floaty and fun. I think the turquoise color is nice...but me personally I am a bit of a wallflower and probably would do a more pastel-like shade just to avoid standing out..lol. I do like the cut of this dress but I'd probably like it better with no sleeves or those sleeves that kinda just float on the top of your shoulders? flutter sleeve? No idea what they're called. Those sleeves look like they might feel too binding esp if it's hot...

Bwhahahahaha - I have NO short comings in the boobage department.  It's an afternoon wedding - so yeah, I can't really see wearing anything that would be too formal.

I was worried about that too.  It seems like all the dresses coming out for summer are either maxi dresses or sleeveless.  Of which I will do neither.  Does anyone have any good web sites in their repetoir for dresses??  Remember they have to carry larger sizes - no zeros or twos LOL!!!

Have you tried it on or are you window shopping via the internet?  I think it will be hard to tell if you look like a salad without trying it simply because we don't know what it looks like on you.

My inclination would be to avoid a loud pattern, go with a solid color, but again, I need visual of you, not the model!

I ordered it off the internet  . .  but can always return it.  I'll have Mr. W take a picture when I try it on.

HAHAHA, I'm be watching this thread for any suggestions since I'm in the same size range as you now.  You might try consignment shops.  I've found some absolutely perfect dresses there.  You might even bop over to a goodwill in a more affluent area.

I'm not too big on patterns, so I can't really give an unbiased opinion there.  But I love the cut of that dress :D  And I think the colors are a good choice, not overly in your face, like reds/yellows/etc can be.

Do you have to wear a dress? If not, then a nice suit is my vote. I like linen for summer, but I know it wrinkles... (I gave up on dresses cause I just can't find any that look nice and fit well--I'm not petit, that's for sure ;-)

You are really too funny!  I tend to like the skirt/tee myself.  As I am a bit older than you I also tend to go for comfort more these days.

I have been to several July weddings and I have found a light weight, loose fitting, full skirt with a light weight, wrinkle free shirt is the way to go.

I have a few gauzy type skirts that can be dressed up or down depending on the jewelry and sandles I choose to wear,

example; now I know this girl is tall and slender but I am a shorty and this same type skirt with a belted long shirt or tee is very cool and comfortable.  Plus it can be washed and worn all summer, not just one time to a wedding. Wink

Deb, maybe try JC Penney or Macy's or Nordstrom's.  Also, I've found decent dresses at Overstock.com - you might get a great deal on something from last year.

I hate the maxi dress thing personally...hate it. I don't mind a longer skirt but I just don't like the look of the maxi's. Or the loud patterns they seem to want to put on all of them.

I know that on me, I'd feel like a giant salad bowl.  And I'm around a 12, depending on the cut.  But that's a far cry from the SIX I was a couple years ago.

Gina......skinny little people don't GET the sleeve thing.  We more robust types prefer to have some distraction from the jiggly of the upper arms.......

I really LIKE the cut of the dress.  The colors, not so much.  I too am more a solid color person, and I second the vote for consignment shops.
