So, what's the latest w/mom and pups?  Did they get inside, to the vet, etc?  We're pulling for all!

She keeps putting them under the house for shelter. And to  not be botherd. But you really should bring them in.  You need to keep a eye on  them and mom...

Oh and forgot to add you should really get her Spayed.  Sometimes things  happen.  But fixing her so it wont happen again  is something you should look in too! [:)]

    my 2 cents-
You seem to genuinely care for your dog and found yourself in a pickle and ended up feeling overwhelmed.
Lecture- don't breed and don't take on what you know little about.
Suggestion- if you cannot take the dogs inside and if you will not take them to some other shelter, the only idea I have is to buy or make a doghouse and keep it warm, dry, protected from wind/elements, clean and comfy. Perhaps a light or heat lamp would work? (but watch for combustibility).
I would ask the vet you trust for advise on how to best ensure the heatrh and welfare of your mother dog and her pups. Ask some of the folks here on what to do and when (like socialization, food, handling etc). I personally believe pups should stay with the mom till 10 weeks minimum.
Good luck to all of you. Make an appointment for a spay please.

I don't think she has come back around. I sent her a message and heard nothing.

I brought them to the vet yesterday and he said everything was fine and to come back in 2 weeks to get heartworm medicine. He also said that if the mother stayed with them, they could stay under the house, that right now its not a problem because of the heat outside. In the meantime I plan on buying a big dog house or something this weekend.

You do NOT start pups on hw meds at 3 weeks.  I  believe 8 weeks is the earliest that any of them are safe to use.

Re allowing them to live under the house, well, I'm guessing your vet is a "good old boy" and goes with the flow of the OLD ways.  that's sad.

I disagree on letting them stay under the house.  Get a shelter up as soon as possible, and try to keep them indoors as much as you can until you get them shelter up.

I wouldn't take your puppies back to that particular vet.  If he wants to give puppies heartworm medicine so early, it can be very dangerous.  Also, if he says its fine to keep them under the house, he doesnt know whats best for the puppies.  Try to find another vet.

I sent you a message with very important information and never heard back. I was wrong by listening to my vet, thinking he knew best. As I said in the message, trust these people that are trying to help you. I was you 4 months ago. (boy do I see now, why you guys/gals were so mad with me) Those pups should be indoors. In a shed in a house whatever. Also like I said in my message to you, maybe you didn't get it. You could put a kiddie size pool in your house somewhere to keep the pups in. They are not a mess at this stage. Also like I said, you may want to check the law where you live, here it is illegal for any landlord to forbid a tenant to have pets. Many people don't know this. You could check with your local tenants act. I do know that those pups should NOT be on meds this early and it is recommened they not get their shots until at least 8 weeks old. Please do what is right, not what is easy.

dogsrock, I agree 1000% with what you've said, BUT this is the deep south and attitudes tend to be a LOT different in the deep south.  That's why I said I think this is a "good old boy, old school" vet.

I've been following this and curious how things are going with the puppies?
    • Puppy
Yes. Of course the mother needs to be with her babies.

They are all doing great. The puppies are getting huge and they are starting to play around. My next task is giving them cute names.

Glad to hear your pups are doing fine. Was wondering about them yesterday and then could not remember the title of your post. Very glad to find it so easily today and hear they are fine.
