New Puppies...HELP!

    • Gold Top Dog
No, she and the pups are NOT fine under the house.  Under the house is cooler and THESE PUPPIES HAVE NO MECHANISM FOR MAINTAINING THEIR BODY HEAT.  I realize that it is almost mid-May in LA and the weather is far warmer than it is here, however, it is still too cold for pups.

My last foster litter was born in July and the temps were in the high 80's or more and I STILL had to use a heatlamp to keep them warm.

If we built a shed outside for the dog and her puppies would that be alright?
    • Gold Top Dog
Under a house, aside from being cold and defenseless, they also wouldn't get any human socialization... wouldn't that be important for them to get used to? >o.o<  I don't breed, so I don't know if they should get this super early or not... anyone? >O.o<

As far as the dog being allowed inside... my landlord doesn't know anything about my corgi pup, and if he only notices one dog and there is no evidence of another (mess, smell, etc.), I figure what he doesn't know won't hurt him lmfao...  But I suppose that would be up to you.

Totally off topic, but I have never understood these newfangled smilies, (are they smilies?) that you are using??

I don't get what they represent or how the represent whatever it is they represent.

I don't plan on letting them stay underneath the house for long. I was thinking maybe a couple of days. So would building a shed in the backyard be okay?
    • Gold Top Dog
In a couple days they may all be dead.  Bring them all inside, in the kitchen or where ever they can do the least damage WHILE you build them something.
    • Gold Top Dog
Is this a house?  Is the landlord there every day?  Bring the dogs inside... at this age they are not doing any damage.  The landlord doesn't need to know! Save their lives!

The people asking you to give them up are not telling you to give them up to new homes too soon, they are telling you to give them up to someone who has the means and ability to care for them... a shelter.  And please... spay.

Do I need to bring the mother in also? I have a little back porch they can stay on...is that alright? And would a shed be fine? I'm trying to avoid bringing them inside, and no my landlord isn't here everyday but her grandson lives across the street.
    • Gold Top Dog
Yes, of course.  Momma needs to feed them, stimulate them to toilet and keep them warm.
    • Silver
Ok, I'll try and do that. In the meantime I'll find some way to build a shed or something.
    • Gold Top Dog
It seems like you are trying to do the right thing out of a disasterous situation...  Please sneak the pups into the kitchen with their mom.  You can gate them in there and if you bring them all in while the grandson isn't looking, no one will be the wiser for a few days.  Then you can build the shelter knowing they are protected in the meantime.  These puppies need to stay together and with their mother for as long as possible to make sure that they learn all those things that puppes learn from their mothers and their littermates.  If you can't find a way to keep them all together, inside, for at LEAST 8 weeks and preferable 10 weeks, please get them all to a shelter or the vet or a rescue organization foster home that can...

I just wanted to give you props for trying to find out how to do the right thing for these babies. Some people wouldn't even think twice about leaving the mother and the pups outside under the house. Glad you are trying to do the right thing. There is some great advice on this thread - good luck!

Well I have been reading this thread and not joining in...I've recently gotten some information regarding a "breeding" that was done near by here....I'm really in the mood for a "why people shouldn't breed" thread but I'll try and keep my passion out of this...one reason why I haven't been here sooner...really wanting to say what is on my mind...the previous has been for those who know me and what I stand for [;)]

    So on this topic....
The pups are too young to be out in the open and alone. The pups NEED to be fed by the momma every two hours and kept warm. If there is no shelter outside(excluding under the house) then these pups need to be inside the home. I understand that your female is an outside dog but when you don't spay this is what happens.

The pups will need to be wormed at two weeks old. They need to be with momma atleast until 4 weeks old nursing and then you will need to wean them by grinding up what the momma is eating and mixing with a milk replacement gradually lessening the liquid until they can eat dry on their own. Don't forget they need shots and another worming.

Please help this dog and her pups, they are depending on you trhe owner who didn't get this girl spayed and allowed her to get pregnant

Bring them inside, Get them all into a bathroom or kitchen. Since the landlord isn't there everyday he/she can't possibly find out...and aren't they supposed to call before they go over? Like 72 hour notice? If the grandson HAPPENS to ask, just say your dog got loose and you haven't been able to find her. Hopefully that will keep him from being too nosy. Good luck with the pups and momma.
