New Puppies...HELP!

    • Silver
When can I start feeding them soft dog food? They will be 3 weeks old in a few this week.

Are they still outside or have you made a shelter or brought them in?  I hope Gina, Jaime or Glenda will be on soon to tell you about feeding.  I know this is a busy show weekend for Jaime and Glenda is still moving.  They will be by asap to answer!

You could blend puppy food until it is powder than add evaporated milk. Enough so that it is very liquidy. If you put it on a spoon and it sticks or clumps off, it is too thick.

They can start this now if the mother is no longer feeding as much. As the weeks go by you make it less runny and a little more thick. Until the final week when you can take the food and just soak it in the milk. You will be feeding them until they are 8 weeks old AT LEAST.

If you run out of dog food, baby pablum works too, but they get more from the puppy food.

Someone also told me you could use Homo milk. But I'm not positive if that is right.

Hey and we need pics too!

Ok thanks! The puppies and mother are inside. I talked to my landlord about it and she said that it was fine, just to watch and make sure they don't tear anything up. I bring them all outside for a couple hours each day. The puppies are starting to walk and they love walking around outside in the yard. I'll get some pics up soon!

I'm glad to see this thread and glad to hear that the pups are doing well.

Momma should still be feeding them and I wouldn't start them on ANYthing else until 4 or 5 weeks.  THEN you want to powder the kibble in the blender, HEAT the bitches replacement (or Jaime's homemade recipe for such) and then add the powdered kibble so that it's gruel like....very soupy.  Jaime uses 1 can of evaporated milk, 1 raw egg and I *think* a tbsp of caro syrup...but I don't remember for sure and don't want to tell you wrong.

Wow! I've been following this thread, and had no advice. I know nothing about this as I am not a breeder. I'm so glad the pups are okay! I know that people here are knowledgable and have given you great advice!

They look fat, too, that's good! I'm so glad you brought them inside.

Yea they're all fat, except for Lola. She's the smallest of them all, I'm assuming she's the runt.
