Well, if you hadn't said that the dog couldn't be dumb maybe I'd have one for you, haha, just kidding, my brother would kill me if I gave away his dog[sm=lol.gif]

Gretchin ended up going to the other home today. I called to find out if she was still there, and the lady told me that she left with her new owner five minutes before I called. [:@]

Gretching would have been PERFECT for police work. If I would have remembered this thread yesterday, there would have been more time to think about it. This is, from what I found out, her story...

Well there's the end to that. But since your mind isn't set... I will be looking for a large shepherd type dog in my area for you.

    ^
That's what ended up happening today. It was posted in the thread for raising funds for a police dog. When I called the lady, we talked for quite a while. Just about dogs in general. She could hear that I was frustrated that they wouldn't hold her for a week or so. But she was still friendly.

She told me that Gretchin went with a lady that lives an hour away. She was driving a Toyota Tacoma and Gretchin hopped right in and made herself comfy. I guess Gretchins new owner has a male German Shepherd and 10 acres of land. Hope it all works out for her!

Maybe I should steal Morgan and ship her to you... you're such a perfect doggy mom, I can't see why it's so hard for you to find the perfect dog!
    • Gold Top Dog
There's a few things making it not happen....

Money - shipping... or just plain adoption cost, etc... (don't know where Kenny got the idea to buy from a breeder)
Kenny - He's a pain in my butt whether I'm trying to find a dog or not.
Beau being intact, which I can't change unless I want to make a COMPLETE life change.

One day, that perty (spayed) female shepherd will come my way and Beau's.

I am so sorry!!! I really hope you find your perfect dog soon, I can't believe how much trouble your having to go through.

I must have missed the part about why you can't get Beau spayed... and I'm curious, an old post you could direct me towards?

I'm sorry it didn't work out with this girl -- i'm sure the right one is out there for you.

    Goodluck.

Some people will freak out on me, but I'm not the only one that makes decisions in my house. Kenny does not want Beau neutered. I do. He does not want him to breed, or fight, or anything like that. He's one of those guys that has their mind set. Even though I truly don't like his reasoning.

Trust me, I tell him over and over and over again about the benefits of neutering... And I believe he knows it, but is so stubborn that he doesn't want it done. Well, I love Beau, and I love my family, so I'd rather not break it up. Beau is Kenny's dog as much as he is mine.

So with that said, not many rescues want to adopt to us. Even though we have 2 1/2 years of vet records, and good word. Plus landlord concent, and a lot of good personal references. My yard is completely fenced in by a 6 foot privacy fence on the front and the sides, and a 7 foot? chain link in the back. But it's small. The dogs don't run around out there, they do that on their walks. If a rescue saw the size of my house and yard, they would turn and walk away. Our house is 500 sq ft, and the yard is about the same size. But the front is not fenced in and is big with a lot of grass. Not even mentioning the large field behind my house. Man do those dogs fly through the bushes. I'll have to get a good video of them.

The Northern California Shepherd Rescue is one of the rescues that wants to do a home visit. I hesitate because of the size of my house/yard. None of the rescues ever believe me when I say our life after work consists of hiking, swimming, biking, camping, walking, and running. Shasta Lake is less than a 5 minute drive, you'll see us there almost everyday after work during the warm months. I've never been a couch potato. And when the weather gets a little better, I wont be inside as much.

So for right now, I'm going to keep my eyes out for a shepherd puppy/adult, doesn't matter, in one of the shelters. They just check with the landlord, and check your employment.

Sorry to hear the Kenny is so adamant on this issue.

We haven't neutered our pup for about the same reasons.  My DH doesn't want to do it.  He is bending and knows I'm right and will eventually cave.  I know this.  I've made an appointment 2, but each time had to cancell 'cause dh changed his mind.

He has to be in accordance because he'll probably be the one taking him in 'cause I have to work and the clinic isn't open on Saturdays.  (go figure [8|])

But, I see light at the end of the tunnel and I know it is just a matter of time before George goes in for his big surgery.  My poor DH cringes at the thought.  Sometimes what is right isn't always what you want.

Good Luck in searching for your pup.  She's out there somewhere.

I have to appeal to the men on i-dog. Guys, you who went ahead and neutered your male dogs! I'm talkin' to YOU!

How would you talk to a guy who won't neuter his dog because he identifies with his dogs, well, nuts? I mean, I've had men say "I wouldn't let anyone do that to ME!" And they refuse to neuter their dog. No amount of information regarding cancer makes a dent.

We women need your help to persuade these guys that it's not a danger to THEM to neuter their dog! What do we say to them? Any good advice?
    • Gold Top Dog
I don't have any good advice and I'm sorry the OP didn't get her dog.  :(  I got my little guy Kota beforeI met my BF and not one week goes by where he doesn't make some reference to "well, till you cut his balls off" or something like that.  He's a short, fluffy dog and most people think he's a she cause of how he looks.    I know BF would neuter a dog if we got another male but he would never let me forget what was done.  I just don't get it either.  I mean, all the females had their stuff cut out!  sheesh...

Hlb118, I'm sorry you didn't get that pretty pup.  Don't worry, you will have a wonderful Shepherd girl one way or another.  We have a super high-kill shelter in our area that just wants to get the dogs out the door.  As long as you have a roof over your head they will adopt to you.  They can't be picky because if they were, all the dogs would just end up dead (so many already do).  Not only is adoption very easy, but if feels so great to pull a dog off death row.  I wonder if you have a similar shelter in your area.

Doesn't Beau at least have Princess to play with until then?  Or am I getting my black and tan dogs confused?  LOL. [:D]  I'm still having trouble figuring out who is who on the new board.

    Hello, i-dog man speaking here.

If he won't listen to all of the correct reasons for neutering, it's obviously an emotional issue with him.  Not sure there's anything you can say.
    • Gold Top Dog
I dont know how close these dogs are to you, but they look like good dogs that might fit with you.
