Do you guys really not buy your milk in bags?

I too can remember getting our milk delivered and in a glass bottle, the cream on top was delish. Growing up my gran kept her milk in a stoneware pitcher, it was ever so good and cold.

You can buy milk in a glass bottle at Whole foods, it is expensive so I buy the reg. store bought and then put it in the glass bottles to keep in the fridge.

I never even heard of milk coming in a bag!

We buy our milk local from Hornstra Farms, and it comes in glass bottles :) I don't drink milk but my DH does and I do use FF milk in my cereal.

You are so lucky!!!  They don't deliver this far up:-((((

We can get milk and 1/2 & 1/2 in bags here in the states, but it's for machines (like cafeterias), not home use (as far as I know). I personally still like milk in bottles, which you can still get in some places. The ultimate in low waste products--only the cap has to be recycled. The bottle is reused. In Sweden, we didn't get milk in bags, but we got sour cream, individual milks, juices and similar things in "tetra" containers--think of a tube with one end pinched together horizontally and the other end vertically--creates a 4 sided (tetra!) container. Easy production and storage.

I went to BC in highschool, and they had milk in bags. Five Iron Frenzy has a song about Canada and how "you have to go there to buy milk in a bag!". LOL

That's the song I meant! I knew I didn't have it quite right, and couldn't remember who it was that sang it.

Stacey, do they sell boxes of wine in Ontario?  I've never seen them lol

This is the most fascinating thing I've read all day! I never imagined that milk came in anything other than cartons or jugs. And its not like I am far from canada or have never traveled there!

Also, I have never heard of having to buy 2 gallons at once. Do stores in the US really do that?

And not having to put milk in the fridge? Yuck. My milk has to be very cold for me to enjoy it. When I grew up, my parents were constantly leaving the milk out and I hated it! Now I have this obsessive compulsive thing about always putting the milk away and it having to be cold for me to drink it. Thanks mom and dad!

Anne, it is so good, well worth the extra money, and way better than the Hood or Garelick that I grew up on. When I moved out on my we I decided to just *try* Hornstra, and I swear, the glass bottle makes 100% difference, we'll never go back.

It was *cough* our class theme song, that year. It was quite often played and sang, and we had t shirts made with part of the lyrics. /nerd

Alrighty, since the cultural bag of worms has been opened, I have to ask....what is with the fascination Canadians have with Kraft mac n' cheese (aka Kraft dinner)?

BTW, I have many Canadian friends IRL thru BF's hockey teams, and there are a lot of things I thank them for introducing me to (for example, pouteen is a miracle hangover cure, lol), but seriously, noodles & powdered cheese in a box is not a delicacy. Stick out tongue

ETA: Jennie, my senior class' theme song was from Boyz II Men.  Wow, I really feel old....
