"Froggy Style"?

All very interesting - I think we've agreed those that do it like to do it!  Vinia, Pofi definitely scoots in this position sometimes and stretches more and more forward.

Jules - I like the doggy wellness thought - it does seem like it just feels good for him to strettttch everything out.  And when he did this a while ago at dog park, the ground was snow packed and someone made a polar bear observation -wondering if it was partly to cool off after running.

I also had wondered if, like Blue, he might outgrow it, but he's 20 months old at this point, so maybe not.  And it does make me worry a bit about Mia - she came to us SO skinny and undernourished looking, but I worry about dysplasia because she is a Golden mix - been treading a fine line trying to put some weight on her yet not letting her grow TOO fast.

Sounds like we have lots of frog dogs here (and one with little chicken legs!)!

    Edited to add:
Oh, yeah - I love the name Pocket (Pocket Rocket, right?) too and LOVE the pic!

Just about every dog I can remember having while I was growing up sat like a frog. Gracie does it sometimes. I think it is cute but looks so uncomfortable, like their legs are going to pop out of their sockets! [:-]

Roscoe never lies down froggy style, but he will crawl on his belly in that position. [:)]  Since it has only been the last few months that he has been willing to lie with his tummy exposed, I'm guessing it's an issue of being too exposed/vulnerable on his part.  Unless he was totally zonked out, he never lay in anything but sphinx position.  And unless he was being specifically told to stay, he always sprung up when someone besides us came near (and in the early months of having him, even when we came near). So I'm guessing he doesn't feel safe sprawled like that 'cause it's too hard to jump up quickly.

I don't know wy some dogs lay like a frog. Ruby used to lay like that all the time when she was a puppy. Now she just does it when she wans to sneak away to get the treat that i dropped.

I'll try to get some pics of Zoey today.  She not only lays down like that, but if she sits for any amount of time her legs just kind of frog out.  I'll go see if i can get her to do it...

Max does that sometimes but not all the time.  What Lena said makes sense to me - it's just a way of stretching out. [:D] Probably none of us lie or sit in the same position all the time, either.

Oh, there are some adorable pictures of froggy dogs.

Grrrrady didn't really lay froggy until fairly recently.  He also fairly recently started giving me his belly to rub.  I like the wellness idea as well as comfort feeling.  I hadn't thought about it but showing belly I know is a sign of submission so maybe I'm finally winning the dominance war. :o)

Annie T., as Jen indicated about Roscoe above, I think Grrrady showing his belly is not only a submission and acknowledgement of your Alpha status, but a sign of trust.  It's a very "exposed" position for them to put themselves in - a kill zone where all their organs are vulnerable.  That's BIG progress.  Now if you get him to show his belly in the presence of a plastic bag, you've hit a home run!![;)]

Kayla had very long legs and did this all the time, Ill get a picture later cause Ill have to scan it and all... Bailey does it sometimes.  I think its so cute, and just that they like to lay like that...

Cousteau used to do that all the time when he was younger.  I haven't seen him do it for awhile.  The cairn terrier I had growing up seemed to like that position, too.  Cousteau hasn't been OFA'd, but we needed to x-ray his hips for something else and my vet said he'd be surprised if Cousteau had less than "good" hips.  My cairn didn't really even have much arthritis and she lived to be 16.

I got a picture of Zoey sitting froggy style.  I have been concerned that there is something really wrong with her.  She does it more on slippery floors.  Does anyone else's dog do this?

My doggy does not do it, (I had the polarbear and wellness sugestion) Mack isn't limber enough plus with elbow displasia he can't handle any pressure on the elbows.  He is 1/3 lab and 1/3 Mastiff and 1/3 Yellow School Bus.  Jules

Talus is a frogger and stretches while he's frogging....
I'll take a picture and post it soon...

Jules!  1/3rd  yellow school bus! LOL!  Now I MUST see a picture of this substantive boy regardless of posture!!  Maybe I've seen a picture of him in the past, but I can't bring it to mind.

Can't wait for pictures of Talus frog and angel Kayla frog, too.

Sandra Luvarescue - with nary a carpeted surface nor throw rug in my 2 story home, I see dogs sit like that PLENTY!  Seriously, I think she's just allowing gravity to act and there's not enough friction to keep them closer.  At least that's my take on it and Pofi definitely does it, too.  I forgot just what a sweet face Zoe has! Things still going great between her and her new sibs?
