I am actually applying for financial aid now. I am finally old enough not to have to count my parent's income. My own income is pretty low, so I will probably get some money I think.
Whoo! Financial aide is pretty great - I have a 75% state scholarship, but I also get a good amount of $ back because I am eligible for Pell Grants, and also some state grant $. I totally don't understand why they base it from your parents - my mom makes NO money, and I haven't lived with her or received any monetary support from her since I started college. So, why does it matter what kind of money she makes?! If I remember correctly you are in grad school, do you still have to do the FAFSA? If you do, drink a glass of wine first. It doesn't make it any less confusing, it only helps you care less about how confused you are, LOL.

Also, I am getting the new car. Not picking it up till Friday, but the deal is done. Or maybe I will pick it up earlier.
An Aveo? :) I didn't dissuade you?!
yeah, i'm in grad school, still have to do the FAFSA if I want to try to get a cent. We just never bothered before because my parent's income, plus my own meager income. I did community college for the first two years, and transferred with an academic scholarship. That combined pretty much disqualified me, so there was no point in even trying to get anything. My income isn't horribly low, however, my income is mostly 1099, and I of course have a good number of business expenses. I do get some money for tuition from my grandpa, but the government doesn't know how I come up with the cash of course. It's paid completely in my name so I get to claim it.
I did go with the Aveo. The price was decent. Not wonderful, but the numbers came in to the high range of what I was willing to go with. If I had the time and wanted to put in the effort to sell my jeep privately, of course that would have been better. However, I work nights when most people would want to see it. Plus, I can't really go without a car given the way I commute for work. It's got a weird shifter. For reverse, you have to pull up on this little ring type dealie, and it actually goes forward to get into reverse. The funny thing though, when they were checking out my car, they asked me repeatedly about if I had the back seat for it somewhere. Umm... no, it's a 2 seater. This is the base model. I know they're not really common, but this is a true two seater. I think I will render the aveo a two seater by flipping the back seat. Then I should be able to fit the crate in it. I might switch his home crate and car crate, because I think the car one might be a little bigger anyway. Or maybe I will put the crate flat and bring it in. Now that I will have a back seat, that'll be a little safer for him to ride in the harness. Him being up front always made me a little nervous.
