A bad day

    A bad day

I woke up this morning with so many things on my to do list during a day off from work.  But all those plans went poof during the first 15 minutes of waking up.

I get up to go open the door so that the dogs can get out and find Buddy's bed destuffed.  Damn hooligans.  They were in an excited state because they were ready to play and I guess thought we were going to play ball.  But, I had a bed to clean up.  I threw Heidi's ball so they would get out from underfoot, and started to pick up stuffing.  As I was bent over picking up, Bruder comes barrelling back to me and his head met the side of my face.  Oh my doG.

My teeth rattled, and my bell was rung.  You know when you get hurt; and your mind tells you....yeah, this is bad.  But the pain hasn't quite made it to the location yet?  That happened.  Then it just got worse from there.  You should see me now.  Quite the shiner under my left eye.  And my left cheekbone is bruised and swollen.  But not nearly as swollen as it was this morning.

After the collision, I immediately put some ice on it...and just stood there, crying.  It hurt so badly.  I finally got my wits back and went into the house to lay down with my ice...I knew we were going to spend quite a bit of time together. It hurt so badly, I wondered if I should go to the ER.   DH called me and I told him what happened...and he came right home.  I was so swollen and already getting colorful, so we decided to go.  I didn't know if my cheekbone was cracked or what.

So, we go to the ER  and they did a CT scan...couldn't do just an regular xray because it was a facial injury.  The doctor determined it was not a broken jaw, but didn't like all the crackling noise going on when opening my mouth.  The CT scan showed no broken bones, thank goodness.   But, I'm here to tell you....my face hurts.

The doctor gave me Darvocet while in the ER; and a prescription of the same...which I definately filled.  In fact, I've just taken another dose; and am on my way to take a bubble bath and my ice pack is going with me.

    Ouch.

OMG....I am so glad your all right, and no lasting damage thank doG.

Can I say what my father would say? Huh? Can I?

Will wait for permission and you have to laugh when your capable.

Barb, that sounds awful!  I'm so sorry you're in pain, but I'm glad nothing is broken.

Enjoy your bubble bath and I hope you feel better tomorrow.  Bubble baths make a lot of things better. Smile

Ow, ow ow! I'm sorry to read this =( Nothing like a good konk in the face from a big dog. Thank goodness he didn't get your nose, probably would have broken it!

Take care of yourself, get a lot of rest and take it easy. As I just suffered a head injury myself, I'd assume you shouldn't do much bending or excercise. Makes the pain a lot worse.

Oh Barbara, that sucks.  I hope that you feel better very quickly.

    • Gold Top Dog

Ouch!  That sucks!  The things these dogs put us through, huh?  Take pics.  One day you'll look at them and laugh...maybe...Ouch...

Owie!  Dogs have GOT to have the hardest heads around.  Man, I'm so sorry you're hurt.  I hope you feel better soon.

OK Dawn....what would your father say?  Maybe I'll laugh tomorrow.  Smile

The other thing that sux about all this....I have people coming into town this week.  My boss whom I haven't seen in months is coming in for the day, Thursday.  AND, I'm supposed to travel to the Dallas area next week for a staff meeting.  Ugh.

Maybe if you guys share your headbutting stories, it will make me feel better.  Surely I'm not the only one who has come in contact with their dogs head or something similar.  LOL  Come one, misery loves company.

oh gosh barb - i'm gonna type in all lower case just to be *quiet*.  i sent you an email about traumeel-- if you can get hold of some it will help.

i fell about 3 weeks ago ... right in the house, dogs were in their crates and i'd gone back thru to grab something else for work.  **while in the a-i-r** my thought was

o m g (the whole words) i am gonna hurt sooooo bad when i land.

yeah ... I did.  went to my homeopath that night and he injected me wtih traumeel (it works like a steroid with none of the side effects cos its a homeopathic) and man, it avoided so much pain.  was still sore ... yes, but nothing like it coulda been.

thank heavens you had the presence of mind to put ice on it.

Well, tonight after bathtime, I was helping Kali put her jammies on and she bounced up to get her pullup all the way up and drove my bottom teeth into my cheekbones...does that count?  It brought tears to my eyes....that's close right?  I could ham it up if you want me too....Wink

I can relate to this . . . my friend had a Boxer years ago who was on springs most of the time (like Tigger from Winnie the Pooh).  One day, I went to greet her, and as I bent down, she sprung up, and her hard, block head hit my nose (from the under side -- just above my top teeth).  I heard a distinct "crack" sound, and I swear I literally saw stars, like when a cartoon character gets hit in the head.  I thought I'd pass out, but I didn't want to alarm my friend, so I just tried to shake it off.  No bleeding, and despite whining to my husband, he said no broken nose.

I went home and put ice on it, took Tylenol, and went to bed with a horrible headache.  The next morning I could hardly open my mouth or make any facial movements that wiggled my nose or upper lip at all.  And -- this was the part that freaked me out -- my teeth hurt.  Being incredibly vain and wanting to protect my mother's investment in orthadonture, I went straight to the dentist, who ordered Xrays to make sure I didn't crack any teeth (even at the root level) and to make sure they weren't jarred loose.  All was fine, but for WEEKS, I couldn't blow my nose comfortably - I had to barely hold the tissue to my nose and be very gentle.  All because of my love for my friend's dog!

I hope you're feeling better soon -- I felt your pain just reading your post!  Take care!

OUCH Barb - hope this morning finds you feeling a bit better...............

hmm head butting dogs well once B smashed my head in a way that he hit my eyeball full force. I couldn't open my eye for over an hour, not for swelling it just wouldn't open.  THAT hurt and even after I could open it I recall it being several hours before I could see out of it.

then not too long ago he was sitting and I was sitting next to him looking to see what he was watching out the window and in excitement he did a jump turn and whacked me right on the bridge of my nose.  Many stars and much blood.

frighteningly I fear that my head my indeed be concrete too Embarrassed
