Mindless chat, back to work....groan!

    Mindless chat, back to work....groan!

I guess I don't have any room to groan since I pretty much work from home and my hours are pretty much of my own making......And, since I did the Quarterly report and wrote the PSA's last night, there's less for me to do today.  Today I might actually be able to focus on SALES!  This is a two pronged situation.  For the company, I'm "just" director of sales, but then there is the station and for THAT I'm promotions director, bookkeeper, community liason, air talent and all around jack of all trades.  Giggle.  One job or the other would be enough!  As it is I've got about 2.5 full time jobs!  Oh well, I do like to stay busy!!

So, it's cold here again.  26 degrees and ice hanging off the front of the house!!  Not big ice, but enough to say, oh my gosh!  Two nights in a row of hard freeze so whatever is left out there, is pretty likely DOA now.  I'll cut back yet again and hopefully something will come back!  Just a reminder, weather gods, this IS Florida!!

FINALLY talked to my sister.  I knew last night, but had NO details so wanted to wait to post.

Asher Jon was born at 5:10 last night via emergency C section.  They induced at 3AM, and I'm not real sure why since he wasn't "quite" due, other than she'd had some serious incidents of false labor.  After 12 hours she still wasn't dialating, and when Ashers heart rate fell and her BP starting going down, into the OR.

My niece posted pics on her blog  http://5forhope.blogspot.com/2010/01/welcome-asher-jon.html

First photo is the new family...nephew Jon, wife Melissa, son Caden and brand new Asher.  Second photo is Sis (62, MS, if you can believe it) with Asher and Jen's first born, Joel, 3rd is niece Gracie with Asher, and then a shot of niece Jen who you all prayed for over the foot, with Joel and Asher.  There's a little video at the end as well.

Even though Mom told me that everything was ok last night, it's still nice to have talked to Sis, to see the pics and to know that everyone is doing fine now!

It was 5 degrees here yesterday morning.  Today we're having a heat wave and it's 23, not counting the wind chill, which drops us to about 7.  I've been sick since last Wednesday, so I'm kind of glad to get out of the house and stop staring at the 4 walls.  Agnes had a small stroke last Thursday.  See thread it General Chat.

    Happy freakin' New Year.

This lovely morning, it's 24 and feels like 14. Getting out of bed was brutal. I am now back sitting in bed, but I have to go take Luke out in a minute. I am going to the eye doctor this morning, so that means my eyes will be wacky the rest of the day. Then after that it's off to work I go. Gonna actually see a client today instead of stacking books on the bookshelf or something like that. I need to go grab some breakfast quickly and get on my way again.

Aw, Glenda, hope your plants are okay anyway.

I think cold temps are always worse in warm climates because you don't build up a tolerance for them and you're not prepared with cold-weather gear. Going outside in 26* with tall insulated boots, a down coat, mittens, hat, and scarf is one thing, but when you're out in tennis shoes and a sweatshirt or two because you have no "real" winter clothes.... brrrr! And who wants to buy/store "real" winter clothes when you'll use them maaaaybe one day a year?

Hope you've squirreled away some warm stuff to keep you cozy!

I'm excited because, ladies and gentlemen, we have NORMAL POOPS today. Thank you, Rascal!!! Standing outside for 10 minutes of every hour with diarrhea-dog was NOT fun. With snow, temps in the teens to 20s, and heavy winds.

I need to go in to do something with my former boss, and I've been trying to set up a time with her since mid-December, but she's still putting me off. She said she can't meet after Jan. 13. I am soooooo annoyed. Plus it's about 4 hours each way to go in to meet with her, and I'm no longer employed by her anyway. We just have to get this one thing done so we can present it at the end of the month... but man oh man I wish she'd just give me a date.... (I guess this is better than her frequent MO of setting a date and then canceling at the last minute?)

It's 27 out there but feels like 16. It's WARM compared to the past few days. I'm so happy! For me, this is the actual start of the New Year. DS#2 is back to school. So I can get some semblance of a routine back in my house.

Kali and Tina start a new training class tonight. We won't know until noon if DH is working tonight. Is it wrong that I want him to be working so Tina gets a few more days rest before having to train? This class is working on finishes, fronts, stays and lots of footwork.

I'll go out and cut back everything that's been frozen...and probably everything anyhow since we've got another hard freeze tonight AND one tomorrow.  If it comes back, it comes back, if it doesn't, it doesn't.

The good news is, by Wednesday the ground should be frozen enough to pull the RV out of the yard and fill the propane tank.  We've had so danged much rain in the past month that the ground is STILL squishy.  I'm using a space heater out there now to keep things from freezing because moving the RV would have just torn the heck out of the yard.

Glenda, let it be known that this is *NOT* normal. Usually we get 1 or 2 days of temps like this, and then it gets warmer again. It's 38* here and I'm freezing. Our house has no actual windows, each room has a big sliding glass door and you can feel the cold coming thru. So then, one of the men here get cold and crank the heat up, which does nothing except make the vent on the first floor spit out heat for about a 5 foot radius. I'm grouchy this morning, can you all tell?

Cita's right though - we just don't have the proper equipment to deal with these kind of temps.

I hope Agnes is OK :(

Good morning everyone, well this freezing weather I love is getting me sick lol chap lips and all.

I feel so bad for the stray siamese cat sleeping outside my house I'm out there all night long covering her with blankets because she won't sleep in a box or the cat carrier I can't find anyone who wants her  Sad

Well its clean house day & think I might paint my bedroom wish me luck with the painting lol

Meg I can totally out grouchy you today - I am really, really grouchy.

Tina it is colder in NC than in MI today - how weird is that??  It was 16* this morning and all week we are to drop to the teens at night and low to mid thirties as our high.  Normal temps are in the 50's.  Today is better than yesterday though as there is little to no wind.

I am trying to work up enough courage to take my camera to the shop.  Sigh I am such a spaz, admittedly I didn't do anything other than underestimate the wind but still I have visions of watching my camera fall and crash into the frozen rock over and over. Ick!

DH watched Bugsy slide all over the kitchen floor this morning instead of crating him when he got too excited (I was getting ready for his walk).  Men can be really dumb when they are lazy.  Did he really think that not taking 30 seconds to put him in his crate was worse than letting him potentially destroy his good knee or tear the not 100% strong knee????Angry

Congrats Glenda, Tina we are pulling for you and Agnes

OK I had best go to the camera store and find out my fate

Glenda, congrats on the new baby in the family!

Tina, I think we had similar weekends and that is not good in this case.  Sorry to read about Agnes' stroke but I'm hoping she'll continue to recover and maintain.

I have much work and no desire to do any of it but looking around I see no one else jumping in to do it, so guess I'll make a start on it.

We are supposed to have some pretty cold weather here too for the next few days.

    Thanks Amanda!

Yes, my nice warm boots and most of my winter gear are in storage in Michigan!  Fat lot of good they do me there!

I do layer, which is a trick learned at a very young age in a very cold state!  But, if this is UNUSUAL and not the norm down here, I feel better.  Still cold, but better.

We've got new windows throughout this house...the triple pane, touch a lever and wash both sides from where you stand type, and the cold air is STILL blasting through those.  I like to keep my dining room drapes open when it's sunny, but too darned much cold air comes through and NOTHING should come through these windows.  I had them in MI and they were wind proof, bitter cold proof, so not sure why they don't accomplish the same thing here.

Our furnace works fine.  The blower, when it wants to work.  So, yeah, the guys crank the heat up to 75 to force the blower to work and I sit here stripping off layers because I'm roasting!

Karen, EVERYONE has had a camera topple before.  I had my tripod get blown over & broke a $1500 lens in the process.  I got lucky & it only cost about $100 to fix but still.  Anyway, my point is  "It happens."  Don't beat yourself up over it.  Fingers crossed that it's relativey cheap to fix.

ETA:  I now have little sandbags to secure my tripod on windy days.

    Me too !!!

I've had a large Dunkin Donuts coffee and three Coke Zeros (fully caffeinated) and still feel like I'm half asleep !!

    Jackie & Tina:  have a hot toddy  . . . . that'll make you feel better.
