We know you don't like Pits already, but to be honest, in your neck of the woods, I'm more afraid of irresponsible ownership of any breed. There are responsible people, and non-responsible people. When was the last time you heard of any breed attacking someone while it was on leash, securely fenced, neutered, and under the control of its responsible owner??? This is a human problem, not a dog problem - they all have teeth.
The reason that I posted this article, is because whenever a PB post talks about how the attacks by this breed are all just made up by the media, these dogs only attack other dogs not people, it's not the dog's fault, I usually relate the fear that I and many dog owners I know have regarding dogs of this breed. ( This of course brings the response that I must "hate the breed") I have also stated many times that these attacks are frequently reported in my area, and that is one of the reasons that I am concerned about the large numbers of these dogs that are appearing in our neighborhoods. This current article, is very typical of most of the articles regarding attacks by this breed. There have been over a half dozen in the last 9 months or so, just in our metro area. Very often, the person that is attacked is walking by himself or herself with or without a dog of their own.
Many times the attack involves more than one dog. Usually the attack cannot be stopped by the victim, and many times a firearm or other weapon has to be used by someone to thwart the attack, as was done in this case.
People can talk about the fault being with irresponsible owners until the cows come home, but having these dogs in our neighborhood scares the dickens out of alot of people. They are just waiting for one of these dogs to " go off" and really hurt someone. A lady at the dog park last week said she had a neighbor that had a PB, a few years ago, and she said it was like living nest to a "hand grenade". She said she was nervous everytime she walked her dogs. By the way, I have lived in this area for over 20 years and I cannot remember reading or hearing about about a multiple dog attack by any other breed, during my time here. The feeling in Atlanta by many people, is that if this continues at the present rate, that communities will start the push for BSL. People don't like when their safety is threatened by someone elses pet...
