She's adorable.  Are you planning to title her in conformation and Peanut as well?  That should be an exciting adventure.

Thank you everyone except the breeder police. Sigh. 

I thought that the "breeder police's" comment was totally acceptable.  Especially since it came from someone else who owns your breed.  I know that if I were to announce that I was about to begin breeding Dobes, I would expect & welcome questions & comments from other Dobe owners, both past & present.

Anyway......congrats on the new puppy.

I don't know that I've seen that type of coloring before - quite neat!

I'm glad to hear that you'll picking a stud that compliments her, not just one that's close like so many people do.  I am sad to hear you won't be doing conformation - she's a gorgeous little pup and it would certainly open up a lot more options for the right pairing and would certainly go a long way in proving her ability to contribute to the breed.  Any other types of showing you're considering?

(I swear I'm not the breeder police - I just see a tooon of chis and chi mixes at our shelter every year so the breeding of chihuahuas is something that catches my eye)

Unsolicited advice is not really welcome. She was also implying in kind of a sneaky way that I would just be breeding any two Chihuahuas and without health testing them.

Actually, my question was about Peanut's age and it rather assumes that you'll be health testing.  It was in no way, shape, or form sneaky.  I resent an implication on my personal character, and I believe it's uncalled for.

As Amanda pointed out, Chihuahuas are one of my favorite breeds.  I think I would be doing Chihuahuas as a breed a disservice if I didn't try to offer information about health testing and responsible breeding where I could. 

I hope you find something that she can compete in, because it's my personal opinion that, in addition to health testing, a dog should do 'something' to prove breedworthiness, including things like therapy work or agility. 

In regard to unsolicited advice, if you post on a public forum, then anything you post is fodder for opinion.

Why not? I get unsolicited advice all the time. Some good, some bad, but really, it's going to happen regardless of the environment and circumstance, and I think it's something people just need to get used to. We are a variety of dog lovers here, and we are concerned about the well being of the future generations of dogs. Why is that so bad? We just want to make sure dogs that are being bred are healthy, temperamentally sound, and good representatives of their breed.

I'm not sure why it's bad.  Most breeders or even aspiring breeders, with honest intentions, that I know, are HAPPY to discuss their showing/competition/breeding plans.  They are also usually very forthcoming about their health testing plans & such.
