Decided to take a breed selector thingy, and...

I got an Alaskan Malamute :D

    Then a Gordon Setter

    Portugese Pointing Dog

    Harrier

    Saint Germain Pointing Dog

    • Gold Top Dog

Apparently my ideal breed is the Russian Toy Terrier, which I've never heard of.  The others listed were Pekingese, Spanish Greyhound, Peruvian Hairless Dog, and Poodle.

The only two of those breeds that I know anything about are the Pekingese and Poodle, and I don't want either one - I don't like smushed faces or coats that need to be cut regularly.  This test failed at finding a breed that would suit me (and is available to me).

    Polish Mountain Dog!? No thanks...
    • Gold Top Dog

Japanese Terrier here.  Cute dog, but I never heard of it so I think I'll just stick with my shelter mutt. Smile

I got the Dogue De Bordeaux...sounds good to me.  The rest I had never heard of.

    • Gold Top Dog

I got a papillon as my top pick!  That is the first time I've ever gotten a papillon as my number one choice on one of these breed pickers.

    • Gold Top Dog

Weirdness.  I got a Plott, a Great Dane, and a Newf.  Pretty different from what I own, lol.

My number one was a chessie...i wouldn't mind one. Of course i'd take any dog!

I got a good selection of dogs that I would have on my list anyway, although I'd never heard of the last one:

Bull Terrier, Am Staff, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Black & Tan Coonhound, Brazillian Terrier

Sadly, no Dobes.  I wonder why.

Bleh. In answer to one of the questions I said that I wanted a dog that I could herd with. My recommended breeds were two pointing breeds, two scent hounds, and a livestock guardian dog (not the same as herding, morons!), none of which I had ever heard of.

I've taken a lot of breed selector tests over the years, and though I haven't been overly impressed by any of them, this one was by far the worse. It isn't just that they totally missed any breed I might remotely consider, but in reading what others have gotten, many people have had combinations of breeds that are completely different from each other recommended.

    Bleh.

I got Bernese Mountain dog as my #1, which is seriously one of those breeds I can't help but literally drool over. I met one in Petco a couple weeks ago and I was just mush. But you don't see them come through shelters very often, so I doubt I'll ever get one...

My other four were Airedale, St. Bernard, Samoyed, and Old English Sheepdog. Interesting mix if you ask me..

    I got:

Newfoundland -one of my favorite breeds!
    Olde English Sheepdog
Kai Dog -never heard of this breed before
    Picardy Sheepdog -or this breed
Australian Kelpie - or this one lol

    And no Poms?! lol
    • Gold Top Dog

I got a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever

    Then:

Bloodhound (no hounds for me, unless its a greyhound)

    English Setter

Frisian Pointing Dog (never heard of it)

    Lab (LOVE)

    • Gold Top Dog

I did the other selector and you can play around with your answers to get the dog you want.  To get a dobe, I can only be gone from 40 minutes to 1 hour a day and if I am willing to groom daily I'm not allowed to own a dobe...There are only 2 different dogs I can own if I want to be gone more than an hour a day.  Oh, and Dobes can only be around kids sometimes, but not all the time.  Ok, I can live with that, I can only take so much too...Stick out tongue

The main one it selected is: Croatian Sheepdog

"The Croatian Shepherd Dog is a magnificent, well built dog covered in a sleek black coat which has a strong herding and guarding instinct."

Some others I got were: Dalmatian, Dutch Water Dog, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Ariege Pointer. I've never heard of the Dutch Water Dog or Ariege Pointer. The pointer looks gorgeous though!
