    Thanksgiving Day Mindless Chat

I should be getting ready to head to the coast for a few days.  Instead I'm hobbling around on my very sore knee.  I was vacuming yesterday and twisted my knee wrong and now it hurts like the devil with every step. :(   I hate to go if I can't play with the dogs on the beach and hunt seashells.  I'm feeling sorry for myself right now.  Someone slap me and remind me of all I have to be thankful for in my life.  I loved the sign on a church marquee I saw this week.  "The things we are thankful for aren't always things".  :)   That includes all of you on this forum who mean so much to me.

I hope everyone has a great day and a good holiday!  Eat, drink and be merry and then nap. lol

Ouch, hope your knee starts to feel better!

I actually slept much better last night. I still can't call it a great sleep, but 100% better than the night before. However, I was awoken early around 5:30 by a certain little black someone who decide she had an upset tummy and needed to vomit up some bile. She seems otherwise fine though. She ate her breakfast, had normal pee/poo so I'm not going to worry (it's just that she never vomits so it's weird!!). She did have turkey last night and she doesn't eat it very often so perhaps it upset her tummy. Who knows.....

Really hoping to hear back on my xrays today. If I don't, I might just give a call and ask to get things going a bit.

Happy Thanksgiving to all you in the States!!

Oh Jackie, that stinks.  I hope the knee feels better soon.  Kim, I hope you get some answers today.

I completely died last night. By 9 I was sawing logs.  I sat down in the livingroom and I was totally gone.  Then I was up again at 1 sweating and stripping!

Brought home a space heater for the closet and my gosh, in a matter of just a couple hours the room smelled so much better!  Not a trace of that nasty odor in the bedroom now.  Whew!  Mildew is nasty stuff.

I really screwed up with the turkey.  I had DS take it out of the freezer and put it in the RV fridge.  But, I didn't check it nor did I check to be sure that the fridge was set on something other than HIGH. My turkey is a bit solid this morning.  Opps.  It's only a 14 pounder and she's swimming in the kitchen sink in cold water and already softening, but I certainly had a moment when I discovered a rock solid turkey!  I don't like to have Thanksgiving Dinner early anyway, so it'll be fine.

Now, the groceries ARE open today, and I could run down and just pick up a fresh turkey, BUT, I object to that.  I really think it's unfair for stores to be open on holidays and the employees to have to work, like it or not.  So, I simply will not shop on a holiday....my little meaningless protest!  LOL!

Jackie, it's funny how close we feel to "strangers" on the internet, isn't it?  Kind of an extended family here.

To all my extended family, wishing you a lovely and peaceful Thansgiving Day!

    Gobble, gobble, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

I'm not very productive yet today.  I'm sitting here very slowly finishing my coffee as a means to procrastinate on mopping the floors.  I really hate mopping, but it's the last bit of cleaning I need to do before our guests arrive.  We're eating around 6ish, so I don't have to start working in the kitchen til around noon.

I haven't checked on my turkey yet today, but it was thawing nicely as of yesterday evening.  Glenda, I'm sure your bird will be thawed in time.

Jackie, ouch about your knee!!  I hope it feels better soon!

Oh, oh!  Our new plants were delivered yesterday!  The guy called and said he'd be at our house around 1pm, so I decided to take a half day so I could come home and meet him here.  When he got here, some of the neighborhood kids were outside playing, and they were all investigating what this big trailer was, so when he started pulling out our plants, they all asked if they could help carry them to the backyard.  Heck, yeah, kids, knock yourselves out!  It was really so adorable.  Kids are so funny.  This one little girl had on a white sweater, and I said, "Oh, honey, you're going to get your pretty white shirt all dirty carrying those plants!"  She said, quite frankly, "It's not a shirt, it's a sweater."  As if that makes it impervious to potting soil stains, LOL!

Jackie - so sorry about your knee and I hope it's just a sprain and will be fine. If you haven't tried icing it yet, it might help reduce the swelling and pain.

I agree that we have a lot to be thankful for today and everyday and it does include the cyber family we have here on this forum.

DH should be home soon and hopefully not completely wiped out. I think our gym is open today and if it is, he'll want to go work out and then we'll have a big breakfast to hold us over until dinner at his sister's at 4. I think I'll hop on the elliptical for awhile just to perk up a little.

Glenda - I hope your turkey is on the way to total thawness now. I'm betting you won't be the only person to find that their turkey isn't thawed out completely.

Everybody knows potting soil has no power on a SWEATER!  LOL!

I'm slacking today.  Badly.  I fed the dogs some leftover pizza bones for breakfast.  I suppose that means I should cut back on their normal breakfast...  I'm a bad doggy mom.  Not that I think many of you could have ignored the complete repetoire of behaviours they threw at me this morning when I tried to throw them out.

I'm still considering getting a turkey breast this afternoon to have for supper.  How long does it take to roast a turkey breast?  If I don't start it till 5 or so, will I get to eat before 7?  Kale has to be in bed by 830, or he does his sleepwalking thing and tries to pee in garbage cans.(he'll shoot me if he knows I told you that)  The girls won't be here, so we can eat a little later than 530...hehe.  ***off to google turkey cookin times***

And blessings to you, Jackie. If you want, I can give you some of the benefit of my scout training. My scoutmaster had been an Army pilot and then, later a commercial pilot and our asst. scoutmaster was an Army Ranger. "On your feet, soldier! The only easy day was yesterday. Now, hump it to the next hill. Left, left, left-right-left ...." The civilian version would be, I hope you feel better and enjoy this wonderful day and I think your dogs will appreciate you being with them, even if you are a bit gimpy today.

I put the turkey in at around 8:30 am and it will finish around 11 am. We're going to have Thanksgiving at our friend's (B) house around noon, or so. She also works retail and will have to get up at 2 am tomorrow to prepare the store for Black Friday. So, we're having it a bit early.

I've been making cranberry jalapeno relish for everyone. And spent much of last night shelling pecans. I have a little more to go.

I am thankful to have a job, after having been laid off this year and not much work and going completely flat broke (something that hasn't happened to me in 25 years.) Thankful to have the goofy pets that I have. Thankful for a loving wife who has handled the stress this year more than admirably. She was having a rough time yesterday. Thanksgiving 1989, she was a victim of aggravated attempted sexual assault. The suspect was already on parole for a similar crime and at least once had been under investigation for attempted murder. A slew of other violent crimes dating back to juvenile ages. Association with gangs, most especially a prison gang known as the Mexican Mafia. He's a bona fide bad guy. Her testimony put him in prison, where he remains. Every once in a while, the approach to Thanksgiving piles up with that and other stresses it gets the better of her. And she was scheduled to work last night from 7 to 11 pm at the grocery store she is also working at. As you might guess, that's a busy night before Thanksgiving. Anyway, she has a good bunch of people to work with and she was 100 percent better when I picked her up from work.

I am thankful that she has friends and co-workers who know how to listen without trying to "fix anything."

I am thankful I live in this great country, land of the free and home of the brave.

I am thankful to have you wonderful people to converse with and share our passion.

Here's the cranberry jalapeno recipe. It does ask for 2 tablespoons of tequila but the alcohol cooks out and it's there primarily with the jalapeno to give a southwest flavor to it.

     Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.04

Title: CRANBERRY-JALAPENO SAUCE Categories: Condiments Yield: 2 Cups

12 oz Cranberries, fresh or frozen
     1 orange
    2 tb Tequila
    1/2 c Sugar
    1 md Jalapeno pepper

Rinse the berries and discard any that are brown and soft. Finely grate the zest only of the orange peel, then cut the orange in half and squeeze out the juice. Add enough water to the orange juice to make one cup of liquid.

Combine the berries, grated orange peel, juice and water, tequila,, and sugar in a large non-reactive pot, and bring it to a slow boil, stirring occasionally as the sugar dissolves. Trim the jalapeno, discard the seeds, and chop it finely.

When the berries begin to pop, add the chopped jalapeno and boil everything together for about 5 more minutes, stirring with a long wooden spoon. If the sauce seems too thick, add a little more water.

Remove the sauce from the heat and allow it to cool, stirring now and again to prevent a skin from forming. Spoon it into a pretty dish,, and chill if you like.

This delicious, slightly spicy sauce is perfect alongside tamales, with cheese-stuffed crepes, or any similarly rich-flavored dish, or even withh your Thanksgiving turkey.

LOL!  Thanks, Ron.  That gave me a laugh and a wake up call.  If I were in many professions my little knee pain would not be any excuse to slack off or complain.  Yes, the dogs don't really care what we do as long as they get to be involved and we don't do much without our dogs. Good thoughts for your wife and kudos to you Ron for being such an understanding husband who sees that she is fragile on certain days and needs your support in more ways than just a paycheck.  She sounds like an awesome woman and it's obvious that you appreciate her through thick and thin. :)

Happy Turkey Day! We're actually hosting Thanksgiving this year - a first for us. It's somewhat bittersweet. My SO's father passed away unexpectedly this past September. He was a great guy and we all miss him. I really thought about him the other day when I asked the SO to pick up some cookies and pies (I can cook, but I do not like baking nor am I good at it). His father was a fantastic cook and wonderful baker. I thought about the last Thanksgiving with him and that to die for pie and the cookies he always made and loaded me up with.

Today, we have my parents coming up, my brother, his mom and brother, as well as his brother's girlfriend. I'm REALLY looking forward to it and I sincerely hope I don't screw up the turkey Stick out tongue

Happy Thankgiving to all of my extended family....you guys have a special place in my heart every day.  I am thankful to have this community; I have learned so much.  I have laughed so much.  I have cried with you too.

I am thankful for my husband, my entire family, my home, my job and the flexibility my company allows me.  I am thankful for the unconditional love that my dogs give me every moment of every day.

    Love, live and enjoy!

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We are going to my SIL today, can't wait to have turkey and be with family.

Jackie sorry about the knee twist - I did the same thing during the summer when River decided to plow in front of me to get to the cat!  It got better but came back to haunt me recently and I have been suffering with knee pain for a month now.  I guess after vacation I will have to go have it looked at!

I am thankful for everything I have, friends a great job and wonderful family!

    Gobble, Gobble!

    Good luck Sharon!

I have a major fail for today. I was making lemon merengue pie - my fav - and I had baked the crust, made the pudding, and was working on merengue. First, I dropped my last 2 attempts at separating eggs into the garbage disposal. So I ran to 7-11 and grabbed another dozen. As I was dying of boredom whipping eggs I reread the pudding box. It seems when I made the pie filling I skipped the step that said 'Add 2 additional cups water'. Uh, oops. I dumped the pudding-ish stuff and pie crust in a pot and ate it with a spatula.

    I hate baking, LOL.

We've got all our Whole Foods stuff in the fridge ready to just pop in the oven and eat - prob aroudn 6ish tonight.  That's going to be the extent of my Thanksgiving prep lol.

It's a gorgeous day today, especially after all the cold, wet weather we've had in the last week.  I want to take the dogs hiking, but DH is being a party pooper and doesn't want to come along - I'm not sure if I can take all three dogs since maggie must be on leash and Kes needs a longline to work on recall and handling two lines in the woods can be rather difficult.  At least Z is off leash worthy lol.

It's really nice outside today - yay! I think I might take Casey and foster pup to the park before dinner. but right now, we're all snuggling in bed :)

this may sound like a super strange question - but does anyone here have a 563 area code for their cell phone? I got a happy turkey day message - but I don't recognize the number! ack!

hope everyone has a wonderful turkey day! Feel better Jackie! knee problems are NO fun...
