Oh Great!

    Oh Great!

I took the girls out to potty a few minutes ago and there was this pup huddled up against the tire of my truck. I thought she was hurt because she was growling and sort of dragging herself around. I put the dogs in the house and grabbed a handful of kibble and took it to her. She gobbled it up and came to me and rolled onto her back and let me pet her. I guess she decided that I wasn't going to hurt her so she stood up and jumped into my lap. Her back legs and tail are covered dried urine and weeds. I think that whoever she belonged to wasn't very good to her. She seems astonished that when I move, it's not to hit her. [:(] She is seriously hyper! She literally sits there and jumps straight up in the air a good 3 feet over and over again.
Someone tell me what to do! She has a collar, but no tags. Do I place a found ad? I am not sure I'd want to send her back wherever she came from because I think she was abused. I don't want to take her to the shelter because the kill rate here is about 80%... what do I do? I'd call some rescues but I haven't a clue what kind of dog she is! Maybe you guys can help figure it out? She is just losing her baby teeth and starting to get her adult teeth and I'd guess she weighs about 12-14lbs.

Also, it is supposed to be 111 degrees today so I can't leave her outside, do you think I should give her a bath or would that scare her too much. She is covered in urine and I really don't want it in my house...
Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Sorry no advice but she is CUTE!!! You may want to check with area vets to see if anyone reported a lost dog. She could be scared because she has been separated from her owners so long. I have to say I prefer to hope for the best (optimist [:D]). Keep us posted to what is up.

Yes, I'd give her a bath and bring her in, the poor little dear.  Sounds like she may have been penned up and not let out to urinate.  As to what to do with her, I have no idea, I'd probably keep her.  She is a darling little pup.

Call the animal control officer or police and let them know what you have, and her neglectful position.  Sounds like she could use a new home.  Why not bathe her outside. She is so little you could put her in a basin.  Dry her and bring her inside, in one room with linoleum flooring incase of accidents.

You said she was growling?  You probably would want to know a health history on her. Wouldn't want to expose your pets to anything she may have. Poor little thing.  She looks very sweet.

First think I would do is bring her to the vet to get her scanned for a microchip.

I second the outside bath and trip to the vet for a scanning, check up and deworming before she is around your crew.

She is super cute, and I'd be inclinded to keep her if I were you!

I totally forgot about getting her scanned for a microchip! I will call the vet! I sooo wish I could keep her, but she is just too hyper! Do you think it could just be because she is frightened? If I could turn down the spaz factor a notch or ten I would really consider keeping her! I will try to get a video so you can see what I mean...

Maybe she's just so hyper because she's so happy she found someone very loving and caring to help her out of her awful situation! [;)]

Where do you live, I will come get her! Gosh, she's so adorable!

From what you have said, this poor puppy has been through something awful.   Why do people get animals and not love them? And worse, abuse and neglect them.  But perhaps there is a story, she got lost or something.  That is why you do need to know a little history on her. She actually could have a caring home. I would call local authorities and see if anyone has reported a lost dog.

She could just be really excited that no one has belted her yet.  If I came from a place where every little movement got me a whack, I'd be pretty experimental in a place where no one was hitting me too.  Besides, when do puppies lose their teeth?  4-5 months?  puppies are hyper, at least when they havent gotten enough exercise.  But its usually pretty manageable.

SOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!!! Look at that happy little face! Oh my word!!!!

I would keep her... but that's just me. I have a hard time saying no to cuteness!

I would get her scanned for a microchip as well, but if she seems to have been in an abusive home, you have to wonder if those kind of people would have taken the time to even get her microchipped if she didn't even have name tag, rabies tag, or license.

I don't know if I could turn her in to animal control or a shelter... not knowing what lies ahead, adoption or euthanization, I would be too scared to take a chance... But I am such a sucker! [;)]

there's any number of scenarios here. Ben was never smacked, but he's head and motion shy.
i have seen situations like this before, typical of a puppy to go nuts any time a person pets them.. and when they get TOO nuts the person smacks them. i believe its often a result of them being taken from mom and siblings too soon and then being ignored by the new owners.
she was probably kept in a crate or in a pen but managed to escape or was turned loose and just let her legs take her where ever they wanted. some dogs like this are super hyped up and are often hit by cars because they arent slowing down to look for dangers. everything is done at warp speed. i think if you found a way for her to play and run around in a safe area she would mellow out in a hurry.

she looks like a little cocker/collie or maybe some beagle in the mix. she sure is cute! i know i would keep her!

I don't think you can just assume she came from an abusive home. She may have gotten lost and had some terrible experiences after getting lost. She may have some heartsick owners out there somewhere.

    Boy, she is a cutie.
She looks like a French Brittany, which are very active/hunting dogs.

Wow what a cutie she is. I know if I was her owner I`d sure be looking for her. Have you checked the paper is see if there is ad in it for a lost pup? I`d also call the shelter to see if anyone called them to see if the pup was found and taken there.
