Last I heard, Obama does not support ousting Lieberman and would rather keep him in. Each day, Obama gets closer to center and I think will be a calming influence on the other dems. If Obama was able to carry Biden, who slammed him in the primary, he'll get along fine with Lieberman.
As was pointed out on the news today, Obama has been getting what I have mentioned before. A sheer vertical learning curve quaintly referred to as de-briefing. Being president is a world away from talking points on the campaign trail. You can almost see the gray hair sprout between 11-4 and 1-20.
President is the hot seat. For one thing, you have a guy not more than 20 feet away from you carrying the "football." The "football" is a briefcase attached by chain and handcuff to the carrier. It contains launch codes and, yes, that does mean what you think it means. We are never more than 20 feet away from the Big One. And that is an awesome responsibility and it changes you.
To put it another way, Obama voted against some funding for troops in Iraq. Back then, he was being fiscally responsible as he saw fit. Now, he is personally responsible for the troops and that literally makes a world of difference. So, I think he's going to back off immediately cutting funding. He has to get us out of Iraq, first, which is what he has been learning, among other things. And this means leaving some key players in their place. He is a pragmatist.
Back to topic. Thanks Anne, and others. As I said before, the man in the story does have freedom of speech, even if I think he picked the wrong way to do it. Perhaps he needs a refresher course in citizenship.
