What would you put into a puppy packet?

A ziplock bag of your puppy food?

I think that's a good idea. I would also suggest putting the feeding instructions right on the bag, or on a 3x5 card and putting that in the bag. I am of the opinion that people will screw up wherever possible, and if you put the instructions and the food together, that hopefully would prevent them from doing so. Also, if you feed something that people will definitely be able to find in a store near them, maybe cut the labels off the food you are feeding, and send that with them. Again, this is for the same reason as the previous suggestion. If you just tell them to buy Brand A Puppy Food, or write that in your information somewhere, somebody along the lines is going to forget what you said, forget to bring the paper with them to the store, or something else equally pathetic, and they'll just buy something else. Then they'll wonder why the puppy got diarrhea. If you send them a label from the food, they can take that to the store with them, and match it right up to the stuff in the store they're supposed to buy. If they forget to bring it with, at least then they've seen it before, and it will look familiar to them when they see it in the store. If it's not possible to give them a label from the food, then if there is a distiguishing characteristic of the package, like it comes in a light blue bag or whatever it may be, i'd tell them that. Anything that might help them to get it right. Of course, maybe I am the only one who is so pessimistic about the intelligence of the general public, so if other members think this would be an insult to people's intelligence, than disregard the suggestion.

List of foods you recommend (and those you DO NOT recommend).   In the past, I placed an adult dog, gave them food and advice, then they contacted me me a little later because the dog is having skin problems.  What are they feeding?  PEDIGREE -- because it's "chosen by vets".  Yech!  Once they got him back on a good food, problem solved.

Edit - ok, I didn't read the post directly above me!  Sorry - still sleepy!

EXACTLY!!  Although, I did that with one of the fosters who went to what we thought was a good home.  I sent Innova, I sent homecooked, I sent a list of good alternatives to Innova and a list of foods that are garbage.  Amidst all her numerous complaints about this pup, including that he gets in the trash because I fed him people food (oddly he doesn't do that HERE) was the fact that he couldn't walk on her ceramic tile floor.  Well, a good part of that is that he'd developed pano from eating...you guessed it...PEDIGREE...one of the foods on my DO NOT FEED list.  If I foster again, I will absolutely NOT place a pup with anyone who does not agree with my feeding philosophy.

How about some water since it's different in every city?
