I can't stand cigarette smoke and have never had the vaguest urge to put a cigarette in my mouth. There are 20 people in my office and not one of them smokes with any kind of regularity, although I've heard the boss smokes occasionally. I probably wouldn't loathe it so much if more smokers disposed of their butts thoughtfully. The litter butts create is unbelievable, and they start fires! Just a few years ago a huge tract of land up near my parents' house was burnt out due to someone throwing a cigarette butt out of their car window on the freeway on a hot and windy day. It was declared a natural disaster zone afterwards. Just imagine all the animals that died as a direct result of the fire and of starvation and exposure in the weeks following the fire.
One time someone disposed of all their cigarette butts in my gym bag I had left in the stands while I was ice skating. I've never been so repulsed in my life. Except for maybe the time someone dropped a large glass jar filled with cigarette ash in the bin room and the smell was so strong I could taste it even while I was holding my breath and taking shallow breaths through my sleeve. Yuck. It's nothing personal, smokers, I just HATE cigarettes, and I do feel annoyed when someone near me is smoking and the smoke is drifting into my face.
