Another Problem

I completely agree with the others who've suggested volunteering at your local shelter. I truly think that it will open your eyes to how many poor dogs suffer each day, simply because of owners who had thoughts just like yours. Thank God you haven't acted on yours yet (and please, please don't abandon your girl). I commend you on admitting that you have a problem - they say that's the first step toward healing. But please follow through with this and work through your thoughts and feelings.

My comment to you is to volunteer at a local shelter, spay your dog, and try to resist the temptation to get another dog.

I am also offended by your comment that were the reason dogs end up at the shelter. One of the dogs I own I took from a friend who didn't want her anymore. My other dog I ADOPTED from the city pound. Both are fixed, both are happy, and they are the love of my life.

If you really feel the need for a new puppy, but don't enjoy having an adult dog, why not volunteer to take care of pregnant dogs that come into the humane society or rescue?  Or look into being a puppy raiser for a seeing-eye program.

I'd also second the idea of trying some dogsports that look like fun and see if you can bond with the dog you have now.

Geez, Billy.  Do you know how to perk up a thread or what??  Now I suppose the rest of us will have to use our own very overactive imaginations to fill in the blanks left by what was removed??

LOL.  Yeah, that was a first for me, I think.  I shouldn't have said it and Jaime, I apologize to you for increasing your already too heavy workload and to the OP for my totally unhelpful comment.

Oh yeah, um HELLO? We're the reason shelters are overpopulated? What is that even about? Both my dogs are from shelters and both are neutered.

People who love dogs don't overpopulate shelters. People who don't care and give them away at the drop of the hat, or don't care enough to spay/neuter and who get dogs as impulse buys from pet stores are the people who overpopulate shelters.
