petco bones

Eevee broke one of her back molars on a hard, processed pet store bone about a year and a half ago. It ran me over $500 to have the tooth surgically extracted. I will NEVER get another pet store bone. My dogs now eat strictly RAW bones when they get bones.

Bailey gets tendons, bully sticks and hooves.  The hooves stink like heck but she is a major CHEWER and they last forever and she really gets into them, eyes closed like nothing else in the world matters lol.  Also, we get the NV raw bones and she gets those about once a week for a treat.  If they have a lot of fat I will cut that off and refreeze but I try to just buy the ones without any.

Pig ears are very fatty and can contribute to pancreatitis later in life if they eat them often...
also when Kayla was younger we gave her one and she choked on it, DH pulled it out of her throat, scared the crap out of us...  that was the one and only time Ive given one of those.

I have tried raw bones on a couple occassions. JJ loves them, but Prudence tries to bury them and save them for later, and won't touch hers. Because I want to supervise them while eating it just doesn't work with the raw ones![;)]

They adore bully sticks and I only give them while I am around, so usually every evening I pull them out of the cupboard and they get to chew on them for an hour or so.  I also occaionally will give the CET chews but I am super careful with these and like with everything else I give them, I take them away once they get small enough to choke on.

The only thing I will let them have until it is completly gone are Texas toothpicks by Merrick.  I watch them eat them in case there are problems and they eat them in just a matter of minutes.

The only thing they have access to when I am not home are kongs stuffed with lamb lungs, liver treats or old mother hubbard mini bones.
