Springfield, MA--UPDATE!!!

    • Gold Top Dog
I wanted to update you all. On Friday we found an ACO to do the home visit up there. Got a glowing report back yesterday. The manager said that her ACO couldnt stop talking about how wonderful Danielle and her family were. She said she would have absolutly NO problem adopting any animal to her.

So it looks like my handsome boy is going to be leaving me. It's always sad but I know he will have a great home where he will be a lot happier. He will be the only animal, go for lots of walks, have a little boy to play with and spend all of his time with his new stay at home mom. And I get another foster...

Carolyn-Thanks SO much for your offer to do the home visit. I greatly appreciate it and please let me know if there is any way I can return the favor.

Thanks to all of you for your advice!
    Anne

That's really nice to hear!! I think you can generally get the most accurate impression by meeting someone. How wonderful to see a dog get a forever home.
    • Gold Top Dog
Wow!! So great to hear that he found awonderful forever home!
    • Gold Top Dog
Aw, he's so cute! I'm so happy for him finding a good home... congratulations on a successful placement!

Thanks everyone. I am excited too.

I will be sure to post updates when I get them. They are really excited. They have already bought him toys & treats. She was looking at collars last night when she was on the phone with me. They are buying him a bed this week. It's going to be really hard to say goodbye. Most fosters I have had, I push them out the door and thank heavens that they finally found a home.

Jet has been, by far, the most difficult foster I have had but he has the sweetest heart. He has so much devotion and loyalty to me, it's going to be hard to send him off even though I know he will have a 100x better life there since he will be the only animal and will be with a stay at home mom. (Not to mention a 7 year old to play with)..I know a tear or two will be shed even though I have done this a million times before.

And just FYI that patch on his arm was from where they did the HW test.

Oh Anne, he's a doll!  He seems to have kind eyes.  I'm glad that the HV was good & your boy is going to a good furever home.

You hit the nail on the head. He is a very kind dog. He cant figure out why my dogs dont like to play with him (it's because he is too strong & doesnt realize it), and it seems like them not wanting to play with him or be around him hurts his feelings. I havent ever had a Pit/Am Staff, I wonder if this is how they all are? If so, I am going to have a VERY hard time fostering from now on :)

Another example is I was watching TV the other day and a baby was crying on a show. Jet's head snapped up and he looked so worried about the baby on television. I think he is going to make a great "big brother" to his new human siblings.

I know, he is just a dog but he is very sensitive. He's a superb dog and I think they are going to be really happy with him.

Thanks for your well wishes. He's a very good boy.

I really don't know Am Staffs that well.  Jaime is the one to ask about them, but ya know that.  [:)]  All I know from the ones I've met, they are mushes & give awesome kisses.

Grady says "congrats Jet! The plane ride is kinda scary but it's cool.  You get a new home when you land.  You'll prolly have it cushy like I do.  Good luck, dude"

    Anne, when does Jet fly?

FYI: I am pretty positive that Grady came from the shelter that Anne fosters for.  Small world huh?

Jet says thanks Grady :)  --We are 2 lucky guys to make it out of that place!!!

He is actually riding what we call the puppy bus. It is a huge horse trailer (insulated, air conditioned, heated with crates welded to the walls). They fit about 50 dogs in one and they run up to the NE states (since they dont have the overpopulation problem we do that is where the majority of the dogs in the south get adopted). I havent ever seen one but I have heard they are pretty amazing. They charge $125 per dog. Some people do it every weekend and make their living off of running up there. It's pretty cool. Dont know if I would want to do it though, 50 dogs is a LOT of dogs to take out to go to the bathroom.

I thought although it is a long trip, it is probably less stressful if he rides the puppy bus (not to mention they arent flying right now due to the cold temperatures and dogs are shipped as "Cargo", so they have to sit at the cargo hold until they are bused to where the owners can pick them up). He should be in his new furever home about 1 or 2 on Saturday afternoon (next saturday the 10th)..

Everyone posted Jet as an Am Staff so I am guessing that is what he is? I thought he was a pit but the lady who runs a pit rescue posted him as an Am Staff and she is far wiser than me... ;)

ETA- I keep reminding Jet he HAS to be a good boy or he will come back to me & will have to leave his plush new life.

The dog bus sounds so cool & pretty cushy.

I was just thinking.  If, heaven forbid, Jet doesn't fit & comes back to you the only negative I see is that he's taking up space for another foster.  Dogs don't really need cushy as long as they have love & someone to take care of them.  I know you'd give him lots to love.

The biggest problem with Jet is that he doesnt get along with my cats & he doesnt get along with my dogs either. With the cats, I dont ever think he would hurt them. He just chased them and when he caught up to them, he tried to nuzzle under them. Of course the cats wernt all that happy and are terrified of the dog.

With my dogs, they just dont like Jet because he plays so rough. He has no clue how big/strong he is. I am sort of glad because most likely I would have been pretty tempted to keep him had he gotten along with my dogs & cats.

If you let me know what year you adopted Grady I might be able to try to find his picture. (if you want me to)

Oh, I totally understand about Jet.  When does he leave or has he already gone?  If he hasn't gone yet, give him some big skritches from me & wish him safe travels.

Um, Grady joined my family in December of 04.  It took a while for his transport & speuter to get arranged.  His name was Buddy, yuck.  I think it would be kinda cool if he did come from your shelter.

You are right. I found this...He actually has quite a few pictures on there.

If this isnt him, he has an evil twin out there *l*

Jet leaves me next Thursday, he will be with his family Saturday afternoon :) I am excited!!

O M G!  Anne, That's my boy!!!  I have the first & last picture of him but not the middle 3.  They are heartbreaking.  I'm glad to report that I have NEVER seen looks like those since he's been with me. I am so very grateful that I was able to give him a home & hopefully erase that scared look from his expression repretoire.  I don't know if you were there when he was.  If you were I want to thank you for whatever you may have done for my boy.  I'm on the verge of tears just thinking of the fear he must have been feeling back then.

Please please please give Jet some extra special skritches from me.  Even though he doesn't really get along with your kids, I know he's had it as good as you could provide for him.  At least he wasn't in the shelter.  Also give him a kiss on his forehead from me.  Tell him that's his safety kiss.  Nothing bad will happen to him now.

    sorry for getting mushy.  [:D]
