Yippeee! It's Friday chat.

I hope your transition to Lotus Notes continues smoothly, Paige.  As someone who isn't too comfortable with change (especially that related to technology), I struggle with computer and software conversions at work.  We got new PCs recently and went from Windows XP to Windows 7 for all the Microsoft applications.  I still have problems trying to do certain things in Excel that used to be second nature for me, but now require new keystrokes and habits that I've yet to memorize!

I am so glad it's Friday.  This week has kicked my behind.  It's not even 11AM, and I'm already looking forward to when I can go to bed tonight.  Nothing to get up early for tomorrow -- I plan to sleep quite late!  We have a ton of stuff to do in the house before the carpet installers arrive Monday morning.  The tiling project turned into a fiasco (long story), so we'll be doing the final sealing of it ourselves.

Also, the master bathroom painting has to be completed (I can't wait to re-hang the towel bars -- I'm sick of towels being strewn around the room).  And, we have to move ALL the furniture out of our living room, dining room, and bedroom.  A sheetrock guy is there today doing a couple last repairs, so I'll have lots of dust to clean up, too.  Have I said how glad I'll be when this is done next week?

All this confirms what I've known for years:  I would not be able to handle the stress of remodeling a whole house or building a custom home from the ground up.  Too much chaos and too many decisions (i.e., arguments)!  Tongue Tied

I'm right there with you Tracy and that's why I've held off on having the kitchen remodeled. I really want it done but I don't want to deal with the massive mess. Since we have one of those open floor plans, only the bedrooms would be sealed off. By the way, having laid quite a bit of tile I can say that sealing it is super, duper easy.

That's what we have, too.  Sheetrock dust will go everywhere, as well as everything that will get stirred up when they tear out the old carpet and padding.

I've done decorative tiling projects (table tops, mirrors, etc.), so I've done small sealing applications that were easy.  That's why we decided to do it ourselves (the tile guy has been here 3 times already and couldn't come back before the end of the weekend).  The tiled area is just a 3-4 foot square by the backdoor and a small area surrounding the gas fireplace, so we should be able to handle it.  We'll find out!

I think I'm about as ready as I'm gonna get for all the company that's going to descend on me within an hour or so.  Weather bug says it's 92 but I think it's hotter than that.  I just went outside to scoop poop and the piles were melting into the grass. Surprise DS #1 is coming over in a bit so I'm going to put him in charge of the grill.  Grilling is a guy thing anyway. I'm not particularly fond of standing over a fire poking at dead animals with a long, sharp thing.

Lisa, from yesterday ... I think that's a super great idea - talking to one of the school counselors.  Then they can kind of keep an eye out for changes or odd behaviors and if the girls seem like they're under a lot of pressure, the counselors can  talk to the parents.

Gads - it's freaking hot outside. I couldn't imagine bbq'ing in this weather Joyce. I know you have a pool and that's where I'd be hanging out. I'm mostly glad that Shane doesn't like going near the pool but days like today, I wish he'd at least go in for a bit. I won't leave him in here alone, so that means I don't go swimming either :(. Oh well, I'm sure thankful for AC today.

I'm slightly annoyed, no, I'm seriously annoyed, this fine Friday. A coworker wants to meet with me on Sunday afternoon to work on something. That in and of itself is fine. I asked that she email me a draft of what she's working on Saturday night. The response I got to that was her weekend agenda, basically as the excuse why I couldn't have it till Sunday morning. Well, guess what, I have an agenda too. I have something to do on Sunday morning, then I will probably be dropping my dogs off at home, and scarfing down something for lunch, and running out the door to go to work. I'll meet with her right after work. This thing she is working on, she has been working on for two months. I could have written this in an hour, but she needs the experience. She is in school right now, and doing supervision for the same thing I did. I can sign off on Sunday for completion of her supervision hours, if I should choose to do so (and if she actually brings me the form, I will not kiss her butt to do this). However, if she does ask me to sign off for this, there are several areas I will have to mark as unsatisfactory or needing improvement. When I did this supervision, I had to submit publication quality materials biweekly, and I had to submit them the night before I was to meet with my supervisor (in addition to being able to submit as many times as I wanted prior to that). I don't think I'm unreasonable in that I ask for the document the night before so that I don't waste both of our time sitting there reading it in front of her, when I could look it over the night before. She isn't someone I regularly do supervision with, so I'll have to ask her supervisor what is usually required. However, nobody in my college seemed to find that unreasonable, and the person I will be starting supervision with in September seemed to think it was perfectly acceptable that I asked for her to send me things the night before. I don't get why it's so hard for this person.

Stand your ground on this Jen. I agree 100% with you and the only way she's going to learn is for people to teach her now. Never ceases to amaze me what some people will try to get away with or how their schedule is more important than anyone elses. Grrrrrr...

I'm going to learn the French language.  I am installing the Rosetta Stone software now.  Wish me luck!  Merci!

Why?  I was chatting with my new boss who resides in France.  We were talking about my trying to sign up for AMEX.com so I could manage the corporate card.  But, since its a France based account, the website is in French.  I semi-jokingly said I need to buy the Rosetta Stone software and learn the language.  He said how much is it.?  if its not too expensive buy it.

Well, ok then.  Don't have to tell me twice.  I love learning new things.  So...I'm hoping this will be fun.  I told him no quizzes for a while.  Big Smile

    Adieu!

I met with this person once before, back in June about the same topic. She never gave me the paperwork she needs filled out. I'm not confident she'll bring it this time. I'm going to ask her to print me a copy, and if she gives me the paperwork to sign, I'll mark unsatisfactory where appropriate.

OK.  I did it.  I shopped.  Got two dresses, neither of which really qualifies as what I was thinking of as a sundress, but....

One is a turquois color with multi-color beading at the neck.  Neck and back are both V and it has the cap type sleeves, but loose. The other is a royal blue, sleeveless "shirtwaist". And for either I got an ivory short cardigan with the front being lace like. Just hope the beading isn't too much on an old fart like me....hate when older folks dress like they are still in their early 20's. If it makes them happy, cool, I just don't want to be one of them!

I spent less than 1/2 of a lunch break shopping, didn't eat lunch and just NOW got home.  The boss got his money's worth today!

Glenda - both dresses sound really nice and I'd have a hard time choosing. You'll be looking good in either one.

Barb - good luck with the French. I took it in high school and found it very difficult to learn but I wasn't highly motivated.

Well, this turned out to be one heck of a "fabulous Friday" ....My son took himself to ER at 2:30am.  His wife called me about 10 am and they suspected gall bladder problems.  So I went to the hospital and stayed there...they finally did the surgery about 8pm, and I just got home.  They have 3 kids under 6, so she was able to come for a few hours, but went home before the surgery to get them ready for bed (baby is 18 mos and is velcro with Mom).  Surgery went very well, and hopefully I can take him home tomorrow.  So I guess my weekend is taken...oh well, these things happen...

Oh Marty! Glad the surgery went well. Healing vibes going out to your son and calming vibes to the rest of you!
