Re:meds-glad you spotted the mistake. No excuse except sloppy people.

"Come". Piper is a hunting dog, so I have several. "Come round"=get back closer." Come"= get back here. "Front"= sit your butt down right in front of me. Now!.

Piper is starting to show signs of age. As I am too, I really didn't notice her signs. Last night, she tried twice to jump up on the bed, and failed, so I had to lift her. May have to saw about 8" off the bed legs. I made a stair set, but she wont use it. As she has white hair, that isn't an indicator of age.

I may have to call County Services. My neighbor is mowing his lawn. About a half inch of rain in the last month. Most grass in the area is crunchy, but he is mowing. He has a day job, so it's not just boredom, but it sets a really bad example.

Yeah, I hate that too Doug.  The b*tchy neighbors scalp there grass constantly.  Twice a week, every week, he's out there on the mower.  Never mind that his grass is all brown now.  Where DS has mowed, in the last two weeks, so is ours.  Hurts to walk barefoot on it and I HATE wearing shoes.

Cathy, all I ever use with mine is NOW.

Poor Tyler seems to be traumatized by Sheba's passing.  He's so darned lonely and he's pouting a LOT.

Yikes -- what a scare with the meds mix-up, Lisa.  Thank God you noticed it before giving it to Riley, and I'm glad it sounds like the pharmacist is equally upset.

Ruby's got some pent up energy today, too.  It's been overcast and a bit drizzly, so she's not interested in being outside (she prefers hot sun).   She'll have plenty to distract her in a couple hours when our friends arrive with their twin 6-year old daughters.  They're in town this weekend from Florida, and we met them last night at a restaurant (first time together in 7 years).  The girls kept asking about Ruby and are very excited about meeting her today.  We've not had kids in the house yet, so we're hoping all goes well.  They have two dogs at home, so they're comfortable with dogs, which should help.  We've got treats, Kongs, and the crate ready!

I never thought about designating a word for emergency recalls.  Knowing how I am in an emergency, it likely would be useless for me since everything would leave my head (actually, my instant reaction would probably be to scream something like Jen said!).  Ruby has decent recall (we use "come";) for things like calling her to the backdoor or across the yard, but if she got away from us somehow and was really focused elsewhere, I doubt that would work reliably. That's why we don't let her off-leash anywhere but in our fenced yard and the organized fenced playgroup we go to.  We'll have to think about finding a special word or phrase.

Doug, I remember when we realized our Bullmastiff couldn't jump on the bed anymore.  We took our mattress off the frame, where it still sits today.  I actually prefer it lower myself -- being only 5 feet tall, it's easier for me, too!

Lisa, I'm glad you noticed the different meds.  It's horrifying when you think of what can happen as a result of getting the wrong pills, especially with a little kid who doesn't weigh much.

That fire east of us is still raging.  They said on the news last night that 1,952 firefighters and other emergency personnel were working on it and it's still only 20% contained.  Every time they start to get a handle on it, the winds in the canyon pick up.

There was a blood drive at the Odd Fellows Hall today, so I cruised over there to give them a pint and now, as much as I'd rather just plop in the recliner with the Sunday paper, I have to get in the car and drive to Dixon (fortunately only 8 miles away) to buy dog food. It doesn't look like there's enough left in the bag for tomorrow.

Is it carpeted Doug? That can sometimes help.

So sad about Tyler. You do still have other dogs right Glenda? He's not completely alone?

Hope you stay clear of the fire Joyce, that would scare the bejesus out of me.

I made it back from shopping and scored a really nice pair of Ryka's for 34 bucks at TJ Max.Picked up a pizza from Papa Murphy's for dinner so I don't have to cook.Life is goodBig Smile

Very successful bargain shopping AND no cooking?  Yes, life is good for sure!

Now I want pizza too! I was in TJ Maxx last weekend and they'd remodeled since I was in there last. It looked super nice. They had a line of clothing, mostly jeans, called Joes. They looked really nice but the discount price was $59-$69. I'd never heard of this brand until then - has anyone else?

It is sad and scary how little control over that fire there's been. Fortunately it's not a threat to either Joyce or I but it's not far away. They already sent a few strike crews from here up there and I keep thinking DH will be asked to go soon.

My emergency recall word is "see ya".

That's why I practice it that way. I know I'm going to freak out and sound like I'm going to kill the dog if it takes off. So, I just practice calling them like I'm going to kill them. The funny thing, when other people watch that, they're used to dogs being called like that coming back like they're terrified. Callie jumped out of that fence, and I called her like she was going to be killed, she came right back under that fence happy as ever. Of course, once she got back, I loved her up and stuffed her mouth full of treats.

Lisa, good thing you caught that error. I know pharmacists are human, but there are certain humans whose errors are a lot more costly than others.

My emergency recall is "Now" and if they're not paying attention on a walk, it's "Bye"

In college, our student health center prescribed antibiotics and it was filled by a pharmacy that delivers to campus.  I got them, took a couple, and a day or two later was reading the pamphlet/pill description and realized it was glucophage and NOT antibiotics!  Very similar pills minus a change in numbers.  Needless to say, the head of the health center heard all about it and THEY filled all the paperwork with the state.  Thankfully it wasn't anything that would harm me, but it did delay antibiotics for a couple days when I was suffering badly.  Thankfully they are taking it seriously.  Pharmacists make a TON of money because of all the responsibilities they assume.
