naming

Sometimes as an owner of ABCA registered Border collies I have a secret envy for people who can play fun games with their dogs' names.  The ABCA limits names to 14 letters so most BCs are named, Bob, Spot, Lass, etc.  To tell them apart you either have to know the owner or the reg.number.  I think that's pretty cool most of the time (knowing what someone is talking about when they mention "Bobby's old imported Jim dog" is like knowing the secret handshake) - but I'll never have the fun of a thematic litter, boo hoo.

I'm raising a pup for someone else and I get to name her - I'm thinking of "Gem".  But I'm on the waiting list for a pup (due date 59 days and counting!) and I think I might like that for my OWN pup.  I have to decide soon. One of my rules is completely neutral names so the pup has nothing to live up to - our dogs are named Ben, Doug, Jen, and Ann.  Oh, I just realized that "Gem" and "Jen" sound too much alike so Gem won't do for my own pupper.

Back to the drawing board - why is naming a dog so HARD?  [sm=uhoh.gif]
