    naming

Hi all, Ihave a question about getting my Bernese Mountain dog registared.  I have the papers I just have not filled them out.  My question is about naming her, she did not come from a breeder with a name for their kennel, so what do I name her?  We have named her Marley, but should she have an offical name or somthing?

It really is up to you, what you want to put down on her paper. If the breeder didn't put down the name of the breeding line (kennel name).

The only reason for an official name would be if you're going to show her.  Or if you want to have fun and give her a middle name too...

ok, so what about using the parents names as part of the name?

You can do that too...actually many people do combine the sire and dams name to make the pups name. Breeders many times will name on a theme. My litter of 7 frenchies are the "Lucky number seven" so I am asking that they carry a registered name that reflects gambling/winning type names

What? A theme? Jaime, when I come to steal an Amstaff puppy, can the theme be Star Wars, or French Royalty, because otherwise i'm going to have to think of a new name.

Rory on her papers is officially Princess Aurora Myers
    But we call her Rory.
Did you know that Bob Marley's middle name is Nesta? You could do something cute with that too!

    Jen,
You could name your puppy anything you want as long as it has my kennel name in it [:D]

    Jamie-

You mean with seven puppies, you didn't go with a western theme a la The Magnificent Seven?  Of course with a theme like The Magnificent Seven there would be a lot of livin' up to.

Oh a western theme!!!! Thats a idea too!!

I was at a Frenchie match and we were talking about my big litter of 7 and I came out with the "Lucky #7" litter and we were all joking it up about what I could name them.

High roller, Luck be a lady, Let it ride were just a few I can remember

I think the gambling theme is pretty dicey.

Jaime, of course it would. While waiting for the train one day, my friend and I were discussing possible names for dogs. She used to be my personal reminder, rememberer, and interpreter of my bad handwriting, and I think I have her roped in to doing this for me again in the future. But anyway, I explained how this all works to her, and that we had to be sure to leave enough characters for the kennel name. And there you have a glimpse into just one of the ways I manage to integrate my obsessions into every thing.

My dogs name is Marley...we went through all of his songs and picked one that fit him. So his official name is 'Soul Rebel Marley'. I thought of using the sire and dam's names, but they had to sign the thing to say it was okay...and I wasn't going to run around getting signatures!!!

I did not know Nesta was Bob's middle name we were wanting to get another puppy in a few years and name him Bob.  Thank you for the info!!

If Jaime is doing a 7 theme for her 7 pups then a truly "shexy" name is "Nuck's 7 Minutes In Heaven". LMAO!
