New dog.....or not?

Well here's a thought then. Enter a ringcraft/handling class...use your boy for those. Doesn't matter as to the dogs quality in class as it's to train YOU on how to present a dog :)

THEN you can decide if you like it...if you do...get a SHOW quality Pom (this will take awhile to build up a relationship with a breeder and for pups to come available anyways) and retake those classes with your new show dog...sounds like a perfect solution?

My corgi bbitch is not even two and she has put quite a few males in their place for mounting her. I mean teeth bared and all that. Other owners apologize for their dog, but I always smile and say she can take care of herself and then when she shows teeth they realize I know what I'm talking about.

Tiffy and well she should! It stresses some dogs out so much poor things...the mountee's I mean. Good job to your girl for helping those other dogs with their 'problem' lol!

Can you send your girl to Sarahlou? lol!

Saralou it's good you know it's not  a"cute" behavior. I have met folks who thought it was cute or somehow macho....GEEZ..!

There is a new member that joined in another thread... coincidentally, she has a chow and a pom :).  I can't remember the thread name but maybe she can help with this decision!

I joined this forum with the same problem.  I found a German
Shepherd that I really wanted to adopt but I had doubts she would
be the best choice for my Chow mix.  I got a lot of good advice
but the consenus was to wait until I was 100% sure it was the right decision.  Dog aggression around age two in Chow's, Akita's, etc. was also mentioned.

My advice would be to wait until Simba grows up a bit before adding a Pom to the mix.  Since the window for socialization closes really quickly I would spend the next few months pouring everything you've got into training, exposing him to new people, dogs, and situations.  All the stuff you seem to be doing already.  I adopted Chow when he was five months so I missed out on the cute baby stuff.  The "teenage terror" months were really hard so classes
have helped me get through it.

I wouldn't worry as much about the size difference,  but how well Simba gets along with other animals in general. My mom has a 15 year old Pom and a huge Shepherd.  Chow goes over to play all the time and we haven't had any problems.  The bigger dogs seem to respect the fact that Payton is too old and fragil  to rough house.

Some weeks I am okay with just one dog and other times I just have to get another.  We have the pet adoption channel on TV, so that combined with all the puppy pictures here, makes my resolve to stick with one for now harder too.

All points have been taken on board and I will ;put getting a new pup on hold, wether its a Pom or not seems irrespective so I will just hold off getting a new dog altogether!

Great advice as always THANKS [:D
