On the note that you like iggys people at the event had italian greyhounds, whippets and greyhounds all together. Really a site to see if you ever get to make it to Dewey. Also when we were there someone said they had an event like this on the West coast. I'll see if I can find anything on it.

Turtle...try looking up greytalk.com....there are some dewey photos under the forum "cute and funny things greys do"
I think you might enjoy looking at some of them![;)]  The greys sure are pretty!

I am sorry to hear that...I think my rescue has the same policy (kinda like they have for when you get a job).  How much longer do you have to go??  Maybe you can attend some of treir fundraisers and local functions so you can stay in touch with them and it may make it easier to volunteer when you area bit older???

also, you can do some reading up on greyhounds to prepare you for working with them...greyhounds for dummies is a really good book to start! [;)]

I'd been thinking of adopting a Grey...I wanted  a largish, calm indoor dog. But the small dog and animal issues stopped me. I can't have them chasing or hurting the Beagles when I have pups and we do have indoor cats. That and I doubt any Grey adoption group would adopt to me because I have kids cats AND small dogs lmao!

Nice dogs tho...I love all the colors they come in.

actually...if you are truly interested in a grey...they will absolutely adopt to you with cats and small dogs.   Most greyhounds do just fine with cats and smaller dogs (I have 2 cats too and these greys are fine with them as were the last two greys I had).   They actually cats test them and some have a much higher prey drive and will never be cat tolerant, but the majority will!    Some greys even "adopt kittys and puppies" and will sleep with them...etc.
The rescue I volunteer for has a bunch of "unadoptable dogs" that actually live with the family and they have about 8 greys, 1 borzoi, 4 italian greyhounds, 1 tiny italian grey who has a disability and is blind in one eye, a puppy italian grey and a puppy greyhound.   They have never had problems with the big and small ones togther and they often sleep together. [:D]

They really are calm, indoor dogs with the goofiest personality ever![:D]

Thanks Ill look into that about helping and staying in touch. Well I have read a rescue book about greyhounds that was upseting but really shows the problem, about rescues of greyhounds called Greyhound Tales. It says Edited by Nora Star and Introduction by Susan Netboy. Also some good adoption books that I recently read were Animal Friends by Christina Jirak O' Donnell, and The dogs who found me by Ken Foster. If your looking for some good books.

My half-sister has a greyhound she rescued. Kate is not a dog person, but a cat person. She adores cats and has 7 now, I think. She used to be nervous around dogs and really didn't like them. However, her daughter adores dogs and began begging for one pretty much as soon as she could forumulate the words "Can I have a dog, Mummy?". Kate eventually took the plunge and got in contact with the greyhound rescue people after seeing greyhounds at a show. They found her an undersized little girl who had never been raced and would get on with her cats.

Well, Kate is completely smitten with her greyhound. She got a kitten not long after she got Mitzi, and it seems the kitten is more dog than the dog. The kitten adores Mitzi and spends a lot of time kicking her off her bed so she can use it. Mitzi is extemely gentle with the kitten and lets her push her around. Kate lives in a small house with not much of a yard, but she says Mitzi goes for a walk every morning and gets and offlead run, then she lies down and sleeps for the rest of the day. That's pretty perfect as far as Kate is concerned.

I'm too insensitive and impatient for a greyhound and I've got a wild hare living with me to boot, but I'm so glad Kate settled on them. She still loves her cats, but she sees the merits in dogs, now, as well.

hello, I've just recently joined and I've got a greyhound too. They really are wonderful, beautiful dogs and so easy to walk. My basenji drags me around as though I was an old potato sack, but my grey, Zephyr, is completely well behaved. My grey is white with a few creamy red spots, I was going to call her 'Red Cap' on account of this but decided with Zephyr. She is a great soldier of a dog and beats Sammi up if he even so much as looks at her food. Well done I say, Sam can really be obnoxious. The German word for greyhound is "Wind Hund", pronounced Vind Hoond (oo as in foot) which means wind dog. what a perfect name for a gentle, fast creature. When I get home at night Zephyr spins around and around on the spot, it's amazing to see such a big white whirlwind of a dog spin around in such tight little circles. She also makes these little frustrated noises in her throat as though she can't get all her emotion out at once, she, like all dogs is completely beautiful.
