Greyhound... anyone else have one??

    • Gold Top Dog
I love beagles too,but no one can understand how much different greys are unless they own them or are around them all the time.

    Too true![:D]

I have owned and spent time around a lot of breeds and greyhounds are VERY different than any other breed I have come across. . . . GOOFY [:D], playful, loving, sensitive and intellegent in ways that are different from other dogs. . .you can't explain it. . .you just have to experience it. I guess that is why I can't imagine ever owning another breed.

I am sooo excited. .  ..I have been in NYC on vacation the last week and I get to pick up my babies at the rescue today after boarding them for a week.[&o]   I missed them soooo much!

Turtle- are you going to the reach the beach event??

    • Gold Top Dog

    • Gold Top Dog

Hey, I'm back from Dewey Beach and it was great. The weather was not so good. We got down late for the event Saturday at 10 AM and it was windy with on and off rain. That didn't stop anybody, the greyhound owners were out with their dogs. They all had coats for warmth and there was enough their. Probably about 500 hundred, but not in the thousands I don't think. The weather probably stopped many from going. They shut the vendors down and but the vendors just put the banners on the motel room banesters and then you walked in the room and then you walked in the room to see what they were selling. I love how nobody has just one, well some, we met people with 6,7,8 ;plus other dogs.  They have the saying "greyhounds are like potatoe chips you can't just have one." Also some placeslet you bring the dogs in. Then Sundaythe the weathe cleared and we went on the beach in the morning and walked with all the greyhound owners. Then talked and then had to head home. The expierence was amazing.

Turtle- I am so glad you had a great time.  Greyhound events are always fantastic and I can't even imagine being around that many at a time!!

they are like potato chips and I know only a handful of people who only have 1 (and usually they only have 1 because they own other breeds and don't want mroe dogs). Greys are ADDICTING! [;)

Did your mom have a good time too??
Did you get any pictures to share?? [:D]

I want to own a grey one day.
But for now I'm committed to my Ella. If I get anymore, it'll probably be another pit.
Pits, I feel, need me the most. But it's so hard to own more than one since they tend to be dog aggressive.

But I DO ever so want a grey!

    They're SO beautiful!

There is a guy in my neighborhood who has a pit AND a grey.[;)]

Seriously though...I fully understand why you love pits and feel that you need to give them a good home.  My stepson has a lab/pit mix and she is a doll.  My neighbor has the sweetest most calm, well behaved pit you could ever want to meet.  They are fantastic dogs, with bad raps and a lot of bad owners out there.  It is nice to come on i-dog and see responsible pit owners who can really give these dogs what they need. [:D]
There are lots of breeds I would love to own (Danes and Dobermans are at the top of the list) but since working with greyhound rescue, I am not sure I could ever bring myself to own anything else since there are sooo many greys in need.

That is the same reasoning I have with getting the greys that have issues. I feel that I am better equipted and definately commited to help the dog have the best possible chance at a happy balanced life. Almost any good dog owner can do great with a regular calm greyhound, but the ones with behavioral or health issues or ones that are older are just not adoptable to most ;people.   There is a HUGE sense of relief when the tough ones find a good home. I am glad I can do that for the couple who owns the shelter.
Know that you are doing a great thing for this breed and they need more people like you. Ella is so very lucky to have caught your eye![;)]    (although how could she NOT...she is an absolute doll and I think she knows it [:D])

People at the event had greyhouns. iggys and whippets. Really cool, and I eard they had an event like this on the West Coast. I'll look into it.
    • Gold Top Dog
On the note that you like iggys people at the event had italian greyhounds, whippets and greyhounds all together. Really a site to see if you ever get to make it to  Dewey. Also when we were there someone said they had an event like this on the West coast. I'll see if I can find anything on it.
