I'm so afraid right now.....

    Much better than here!

Well, it is NOT the fuel pump, thankfully.  That's IN the tank so a major chore to replace.  It is looking like all the RV needs is a new set of spark plugs.  Everything else is checking out good but the plugs are pretty fouled....likely from the fuel line freeze up that the two mechanics figure did happen during that awful cold snap.  The guys are out getting new plugs now so hopefully we can get that baby fired up and mobile again.  I'm thrilled that DS was wrong about the fuel pump!  And everyone is being nice today so hopefully that continues.  Today I was actually able to start the day without any chemical assistance to keep the anxiety attacks at bay.  That's a BIG step given the last several days.

We need some good news on the job front, and gosh, we need it quickly!  The SD thing is in the very beginning steps and I'm not a very patient person.  Just in case no one noticed!  Tongue Tied

    • Gold Top Dog

Yipeee!!!!  The RV is running again!  It WAS the plugs.  Thank goodness!  That's one less thing to worry about.  AND my nieces baby from Guatamala has had her birth certificate issued FINALLY, so Ana is coming home.  That's TWO really good things in one day.  Next up, hopefully is either a really good job for DH or a winning lottery ticket!

    • Gold Top Dog

Hey maybe your luck has started to turn around. The RVs running - Baby Ana is coming home soon. I hope a job for your DH comes next and soon.

With two good things happening in one day maybe you should get a lottery ticket. Just think if you won the lotto your DH could start up his own business.

    • Gold Top Dog

    I'm just saying.....

And I WILL pick up the ticket tomorrow on my way to work!

Oh Glenda I just found this!  I'm sorry you're in such a tight situation.

As for a job, how about Indiana?  My organization is looking for a person.  You mentioned sales and marketing, ever done communications as well?  Wink  You could park your RV at our house and share ours until you get up and running.  Big Smile

URMIA is a growing non-profit association that promotes the advancement and application of effective risk management principles and practices in institutions of higher education. In this new position we are seeking a person to oversee the Association’s communications and marketing efforts to further the URMIA mission, vision and brand identity. This position is responsible for the coordination of all printed and electronic publishing activities of the Association, including the URMIA website content, monthly electronic newsletter, annual Journal, and conference brochures, as well as the development and production of marketing materials promoting membership benefits and other efforts as needed. This person will serve in an integral role as part of the Association’s overall strategic plan. For a full job description go to our position listing

Oh my gosh!  That sounds perfect!  I put in a 10 hour day so am too bleary eyed to read the job description, but........my background is in MEDIA sales and marketing, radio, TV and newspaper.  I've also written professionally (sports and features) for two local newspapers, many years ago, and I have an accounting degree, just no practical (read paid) experience, just a lot of volunteer stuff.  And depending on WHERE in Indiana, I'm sure DH could find a radio gig to keep him busy as well.  I'm feeling a bit more energized so think I'll go read!

    • Gold Top Dog

Wow, again.  Can you PM me where to send a resume?

    • Gold Top Dog

Do you really want to leave NW Michigan?  I'm thinking there must be something else to rent not far from where you are now.  I understand the situation being on a month to month and your getting tossed, but with 6 GSDs and an RV you need a place with some land.  You mentioned Atlantic City area in comparison to New England...cost of living is worse in New England.  Rents are about the same, food, clothes, etc., but it is the energy costs that are higher in NE.  Gas, electric, heating oil, it's all higher in NE.

So, you have the degree but never really used it, no big deal, at least you have the degree under your belt.  Does the DH have to find something in radio programming or would he be willing to do something else temporarily until something turns up in radio again?  How about Indian Gaming? Are there any of those Indian casino around where you live.  You could both probably get something in a small casino and the jobs would hopefully be able to give you enough to at least stay in the area and find a new place to rent, a place with some land for the dogs.  Just getting from A to B in that RV is going to cost you a mint in gas, but if you can stay local not far from where your at now it may not so bad.  Do you want to shell out a few 1000 in gas to move that thing around with no job commitment or place to stay when you may be able to keep it local?  Not trying to discourage you from moving, but NW Michigan sounds like a beautiful place to live and probably very affordable cost of living.

Well, in any event I wish you the best in good vibes and hope things work out for you.  I would definitely get out of that house though.  Two people fighting downstairs constantly is not good.  Are they drunks by any chance?  I would leave that scene.  Rent with an option to buy is always nice, but you need that worked out in contracts obviously.  He probably doesn't want to sell now anyway because of the market thinking it may go back up or something and sell for the whole nut instead of minus what you had put up in rent money.   I think I would try to stay local, embark up new careers and a fresh start with new work.  But, if you really must leave the state, I wish you the best.  Look into that Indian gaming thing...wide variety of jobs...and they do have accounting departments....some even have their own radio stations.

Again, best of luck and wishing you the best.

No, I really would rather not leave NW MI, but the reality of the situation is that we have to go where ever the jobs are.  Unfortunately that isn't here.  MI is in a full blown recession right now.  MI is, and always has been, heavily dependent on the auto industry and the jobs up in this area are very much connected to the auto industry.  The cost of living here is incredibly high as well.  Yesterday the cost of a gallon of gas jumped 30 cents.  It's now at 3.39 per gallon.  Thursday it was at 3.04.

We aren't going to just load up and leave.  If push comes to shove, we'll put our stuff in storage and live in the RV in a campground locally, until we have someplace to go.  Since I have a little income, I'm sure not going to take a chance of loosing that right now.  Getting into a new place, though, requires money, and I don't have the $3000 or so it's going to take to get into a new place.  And if there is nothing here for DH, which there clearly isn't, there is no sense in making long term plans to stay here.

I've checked the casino's....there are a LOT of them, but their hiring preference is Native American, so I'm rather far down the list there.

So, unless I hit the jackpot last nite, well, please keep the prayers coming for a good job and fast!

I understand what you're saying...have to go where the jobs are...God I have moving...feel bad for you.

True, there is Native American hiring preference in Indian Gaming, however they do hire whoever when push comes to shove.  The better money is in dealing table games, not slots.  There are a wide variety of jobs.  Food and beverage (cooks, bartenders, waiters and waitress), Security, Payroll, Administration, Human Resources, MIS (computers), etc., etc., and of course gaming.  There is a huge expansion project going on right now in Connecticut.  The new MGM Grand is hiring.  They have recruiting set up to try and bring in people even as far out as Pittsburgh.  They literally need 1000's of people.  They are not all great paying jobs obviously, 90 day probationary period and all that stuff, but they are in need NOW.  There are RV parks in the area.

MGM is also doing a huge project in Atlantic City.  This will be the biggest building in state of NJ upon completion (2012).  MGM jobs in CT would probably allow for easy relocation to NJ when that time comes.

Lovely.  The old guy has gone, but, he'll be back the 21st and we have to be gone by then.  Guess it's gonna be everything in storage and a campground.

Maybe some extra prayers and good vibes?

    • Gold Top Dog

I'm so sorry you are going through this. You've got our good thoughts coming. Oliver sends some extra black lab kisses too because he knows that's a big stress reliever :).

Extra, super duper prayers for you. We're in a similar (but less sucktastic) situation here and it's an awful feeling, I know. (((HUGS)))

This was just not a great day.  Stopped by the bank to grab some cash.....over drawn??  How the heck??  Well, my direct deposit didn't arrive when it should have, and they supposedly process stuff as it comes in.  I'd love to see the time stamps on when things actually arrive.  My deposit is ALWAYS in by midnight Friday morning.  And I never, ever use the card until Friday, unless I do have "extra" money in the account.  So they hit me with 70 bucks in OD charges.  Sigh.

Then the news about the idiot in such a hurry.  It's not enough I've gotta deal with the son and his fiance?  And not being able to get on line cuz they are using MY second line much of the time that I need it......

But, then I heard from Leslie, and there is still the possibility in NH.  If we were to go to NH we could move MIL in with us from ME.  She is back in the nursing home AGAIN, so while it wouldn't be the most wonderful situation, we could actually help her and she could help us to get moved.  Sometimes you have to pay back parents for years of being parents.......

We need some VERY powerful prayers and good vibes so that whatever happens can happen QUICKLY!  Even a month in the RV will be a very long time......
