My dad needs some prayers

    • Gold Top Dog

Thank you so much.  I just spoke with him and he's started his fast for the surgery.  But, the doctor apparently didn't receive from the lab everything he needs to have in the surgery.  So, they are waiting to here back if he can actually get it done tomorrow.

I'm so worried.  I really want him to be able to get this done ASAP.

Thank you everyone for all the prayers and thoughts.  I don't think I've ever needed them more.

Please know that we're keeping dad and your whole family in our prayers.

Lori - I hope that they were able to do the surgery today as planned. The waiting is always so difficult and when surgery is delayed because of a question on a lab test or something, it just seems to make it so much more stressful. I hope that we'll hear some positive news from you later today that the surgery is over and things went smoothly.

Thank you all so much.  It's postponed.  The lab sent the slides from the biopsy by DHL to the hospital.  And, they never got there!  So, yesterday they were trying to track the package but it never went anywhere.  So, after the whole fast yesterday plus he had to take a prep sort of like a colonoscopy prep they cancelled.  The surgeon just doesn't want to operate without the actual slides.  BUT, we may never see the slides again.  So, my dad may have to have another biopsy.

Yes, my parents are very upset about this mix up.  The doctor said if he does end up needing another biopsy he will do it right before the surgery and go from there.  So, it won't be a wait in between.

The doctor said they've caught it early so it's OK to wait until next week for the operation.  So, the good news is he will be feeling fine for the holiday.

He ended up eating a couple bowls of cereal this morning and went to work!  He said he was sick of sitting around the house!

So, thank you all for praying.  I've really needed it. I've felt so upset since finding out.

I will update next week when I'll be a wreck again, I'm sure.

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

What an ordeal! I hope the slides turn up.

It's good they caught it early, and he'll be able to somewhat enjoy the holidays.

    Prayers on the way

Lori, just now getting to read a lot of threads and saw this (and your updates! I can't believe they lost the slides!). How did the surgery go for your dad? Just wanted to say that I'm keeping him (and you & your mom) in my prayers. I worry so much about my parents, even when they have a regularly scheduled appointment with a doctor. Sending lots of calming vibes your way.

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING ALL OF YOU!

He did have the surgery Monday--it was another bunch of BS when they got there but it got organized and they went ahead.

They think they got it all out so unless something unexpected shows up on the pathology no further treatment will be needed.  If they do see something some radiation might be necessary.

He lost minimal blood--only as much as a blood test.  Amazing this new robotic surgery is awesome.

He came home today.  He'll have the catheter until the 10th and he'll be home recovering for about a month and a half.

Honestly, I think my mom did worse than he did thru all of this.

It's something to see how they love each other.  DH and I love each other but not with the "old fashioned dependency" that I see in them.  My mom stayed at the hospital both nights with him.

    Thanks again everyone!

Thanks for the update Lori - I'm glad he's home :)   And I'm especially happy that they got this in time and took care of it - hooray for early detection !

I'm glad to see your update too, Lori! I hope they got it all and that your Dad won't have to go thru any treatments. That's such great news!

Great news Lori! I'm sure your mom and the rest of the family are very relieved that it's over and the prognosis is so positive. I truly think it can be harder on the loved ones than the person going thru it and I'm sure you're mom was very worried. I hope his recovery goes smoothly and the path report shows no need for further treatment.

Thank you very much everyone.  Yes, I spoke with my mom and he's comfortable and eating and seems to be fine.  (Bored but fine--he's not one to sit around)

I'll update next week when he goes for the follow up.

I can't thank everyone enough for all the thoughs and support through this.  I honestly am so relieved the surgery is over.  It was just emotionally draining.

Sorry I'm late...just found.  My prayers are with you and your family for a fast and healthy speedy recovery!  My MIL had prostate cancer and is remission, so hopefully this will be the same for your dad!  You'll need to pick him up some reading materials or crossword puzzles or something he might enjoy to help stiffle that boredom!  Make sure you give Dad tons of kisses and lots of "I love yous!"  Making him feel good, will help his recovery!  Big Smile

He's asking me to bring my lap top over!  We just might see him sign on here, LOL!
