Missing Dog

    Missing Dog

Well, my dog took off on Monday May 8 around 4pm. Unfortunately the neighbor kids tried to catch him, so he ran further and faster than he would if no one was chasing him. He was seen late Monday evening but the lady was not able pick him up. I imagine he was pretty freaked out, as was I.

Please just pray that he gets found and returned. Needless to say...I am a total mess.

    Thanks in advance.

Fizzlbriches, sorry to hear the news of your baby.

Here are some helpful things you can do to help locate your baby if you have not done so already.
A~ Posters, or flyers in dark bold lettering. Leave the dogs name off of it.
Post at least three numbers, vet included. Also add to the flyer or poster, the dog needs medications. And last, offer a reward, but do not advise how much the reward is.

B~ Place a shirt or sock that has your smell on it at the gate incase he or she is trying to locate where they live. This will give them the cue where they are.

C~ Take a favorite toy with you when you go looking for your fur kid. Bring a note pad to take notes of people who may have seen your dog. And bring a flash light. Scared dogs will hide in abandoned buildings, pretty much any dark place they can find until they feel it is safe to come out.

D~ Never search in an area you are unfamiliar with. Bring a friend.

E~ Call all humane society, ac, vet's offices in case they were found and dropped off.

F~ NEVER give up looking. If someone calls you and gives a description of a dog you think may not be yours, go look anyway. Peoples perception of color and breeds are dif than yours.

G~ There are web sites you can enter your dogs information on for free. If you would like those links, just let me know.

H~Last but not least, provide flyers to your local law enforcement officers, and anyone that provides a service to your home, ie: Bug man, postal worker, gardner etc...

Any word yet on your fur kid Fizzlbriches?
    • Gold Top Dog
So far no word, I call all the local shelters, hospitals and animal control twice a day. I have put up posters everywhere they will let me. I am just so very sad. He is just not an outside dog. I keep thinking that if he was home last night he would have been under the covers cuz it was a little cool. It stresses me that he is out there all alone.

Thank you all for the prayers....I know they will pay off. I just have to stay positive but its hard to do, I am a worrier by nature.

Awwwwwwwww Carrie, my heart aches for you. I know how it feels, trust me on this.

Do yourself a favor and go look at these places like animal control yourself and not rely on the employee's word your dog is not there.
Accidents happen. He may not fit the description in the employee's mind because the dog has a split ear or larger head, swollen face.

"I have put up posters everywhere they will let me." And post them where they wont let you either. Example, can I post a flyer here. Attendant~ No it is not allowed. Poster~ May I use your bathroom? Attendant~ Sure.
Poster goes to the bathroom and plasters each stall with a flyer or poster of her missing dog. Bottom line, by the time the employee of the store see's the flyers posted in the bathroom stalls, at least a dozen people have seen your flyer for help finding lost dog.
I did that. You do it too. Do anything you can to get the attention of the public in locating your baby.
Another idea is to use your cable network in posting your lost dog information on their bullitin board. You know the channel that has all the add's for the community. They may charge you a fee to advertise, but worth it.
Place an add in the newspaper section. Also leave out the dog's name and offer a reward, but do not say amount. They are usually free for a few days. In my town it is four days. After that you have to pay. Still worth it.
Was your dog microchipped? If yes, activate the chip by calling the manufacturer.
Scoure the newspaper lost and found section often. Sometimes, we forget to check the lost and found section when we have placed a lost add in.
Sending you comfort and strength to continue your search for your baby. My heart aches for you friend. I am sorry you are having to go thru this.

    Forpaws,

I didn't think about posting in the bathroom of places that said no. That is a brilliant idea. The shelters have been visited, by me, my sister or brother, and the micro chip has been activated.

I will spend some time at work today printing more posters (and putting them in sheet protectors) and go back to places that said no to do as you said.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers

    Fizz,

Something else you might try is to place a flyer inside each news paper at the news paper stand box.  Just don't get caught as it is illegal. You can also place flyers inside newspaper boxes in the neighborhood, that is legal. You just cannot put them inside a mail box.
I also made my car a moving billboard with glass writing stuff on the windows and plastered flyers all over it. Laminating a few of them for outside use would be a great idea. I placed them at eye level on or rather behind stop signs and power poles to be seen from the road or traffic light.
I even went as far as having a special T-Shirt made with my dogs picture on it with the caption HAVE YOU SEEN ME! I'M LOST....
I would also check surrounding towns near you. Dogs have a strange way of traveling to places you would not think of. As an example, someone sees the dog, picks it up and goes home. The dog gets away from them and another person picks it up and they live out of your town.
Trackers are also of help. If you have one in your area, call them to see if they will help locate the dog. Some may charge a fee while others may use it as a training tool. Cannot hurt.
    Keep looking, don't give up!
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers that your baby will be found soon.
    Hugs,

    Paws.

    Carrie,
Any word yet on your dog?
I am sending prayers for her safe return.

Fizz, don't trust the shelters - we have had people find their dogs there even after they were told the dog wasn't there - go in person every other day, or have volunteers who know your dog help you!!!
Go to every vet office and talk to every rescue group.  Put his photo in local restaurants and on the drug store and supermarket bulletin boards.  Make a big orange sign with huge letters that just says "Lost Dog" and your phone number.  Flyers are often overlooked by motorists because they aren't easy to read.  People are lazy and they don't pull over to do that.

I will absolutely second Anne's advice.  When the pup formerly known as Sadie went missing she was picked up by AC on Monday.  Lori WENT to the shelters and called several times per day.  Being 4+ hours away, having spent a DAY walking in the rain looking for her and feeling really USELESS, I emailed her picture to absolutely EVERY rescue I could find, every shelter, every ACO, etc.  Thursday I got an email from a gal with a rescue who flat out insisted that Sadie was AT the Shelter in the Monday row.  I CALLED.  I spoke with the guy who physically works IN the Monday row.  Nope, she wasn't there.  But, still, on the strength of this gals conviction that in fact Sadie WAS there, I sent Lori to check on it.  Sure enough, there she was, BUT hidden in plain site so to speak since she was in the TOP row of cages.  Now what rocket scientists puts a 60 lb shepherd in a TOP crate......and honestly I suspect there was something hinky going on there and the gal from the rescue *might* have had access to just a few more places than the general public does.....but, CALLING did absolutely NO good.  And, I'd had this girl for months.  I could describe her in absolute DETAIL and the guy still didn't see her?

GO to the shelters, eyeball every single dog there, and if there are rows of cages, be sure that you CHECK the ones where your baby *shouldn't* be.

Anne and Glenda, She is already doing this going to the AC and Shelters as are her family members too to check for themselves. I emailed her more information and more ideas on how to recover and locate her baby.

I am hoping for good news soon.

I have lit a candle and prayers for the safe return of her pupers.
    You guys wanna join me?
