Willow needs some good wishes

    Willow needs some good wishes

I ended up having to take Willow into the vet as an urgent visit this morning.  She was peeing blood again and in a lot of pain.  She was such a good girl though, didn't have an accident in the house despite the fact that it took me forever to get her outside--long story.

Anyway, she's on the antibiotics again.  A longer, stronger dose.  And, she's just generally not feeling all that great.

So, please say a prayer that she'll feel better and that this won't keep returning on her.  The one is really close to the last one.

Thanks so much.  I just want her to have all the prayers she can, mine don't seem like enough.

    Thanks, again.
    Lori

    Poor pumpkin!

You've got prayers, good thots and healing vibes coming your way from here.  And of course, ear scritches and belly rubs for Willow.

Aww Lori , I'm so sorry that Willow's sick. I hope she feels better soon; I'll say some prayers for her.

Everyone in this house is a big fan of Willow's and keeping fingers and paws crossed for a full recovery.

    Thank you all so much.
This time she's sicker than she was with the one a few months ago.
She's even just letting me put the pills right down her throat with no complaints.
It's sad, but there is not much else I can do for her at this point.
She should feel better within a couple of days.

Thanks for the prayers and good wishes.

Exactly.  And, in the meantime, to focus on the positive, if you have the weekends off from work, then you can spend loads of time with her.
Positive vibes for Willow coming from NH...

the cyclosporine that Billy's on CAUSES them.  And he had a running UTI for MONTHS back last summer when we were battling the IMHA in a big way.

D-mannose and Cranberry have been heaven sent -- the d-mannose I get as a powder and just stir into his food.  It's sweet (tastes like confectioner's sugar) so he doesn't mind it at all.

Both the d-mannose and the cranberry function similarly -- they bond to infection cells and make them too slippery to stick to the urinary tract.  Both my regular vet and my holistic vet are SUPER happy with it (and so is Billy's University of Florida vet).  The d-mannose I get at a health store (the NOW brand is the best one I've found).

Cranactin (Solaray) actually comes with d-mannose but it's not formulated in the right proportion for a dog somehow.  I DO use Cranactin (the plain cranberry one), but just not the cranactin/d-mannose combined in one pill.

Try braunschweiger (liverwurst) for the pills.  It's slippery and yet sticks to the pill well -- try giving her a hunk first, and then give her the second one with the pills in it.

She may just be one of those dogs who runs a uti easily (altho it sounds to me like they didn't get it all the first time), but putting her on something like the d-mannose * cranberry may elminate the return of the infection.

After the course of antibiotics is done, wait just 2 days and then have the vet do a culture and sensitivity test.  They have to take a sterile urine draw (either an aspirate or a catheter) and send it away -- BUT it will tell you 100% for sure if the infection is GONE.  AND it will tell you what antibiotics that infection is sensitive to.

That one Billy had for months -- he went thru like FOUR drugs -- all the way to Cipro -- before we kicked that darned thing.

GOOD FOR YOU that you caught it.  When a dog pees blood it can literally be a life-threatening emergency -- you were smart to take her in right away.  I know you would just ecause you know it hurts -- but it IS an emergency thing!!

Prayers and good thots for both of you!!

    Thanks again.

Yes, the vet did say she was going to do a culture after the medication is done.  She's got 112 pills so it'll be awhile!  She's resting nicely now, snoring away on her bed.  I can't even hear the TV, LOL!

She's had so many of these since I got her.  I do give her Berry Balance but she can't tolerate it in the amounts it's really supposed to be given in.  So, I just about 1/4 teaspoon to her food about 2 or 3 times per week.  So, maybe after all this I will try the ones suggested above.

I hate how she waits until it's really bad so show any signs of illness at all.  I would of taken her sooner but we just don't know anything until it's bad.  She eats well, sleeps, no accidents, etc, until it's very severe.

    Thanks again.

Poor Willow.  I'm so sorry that she's still having these problems and I hope that the new, stronger antibiotics do the trick and she can be healthy and happy again.  I'll keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.

    Thanks again.
She's holding her own.  She's taking the antibiotics without much trouble at all.  And, so far they haven't effected her appetite or her poop so that's good.  I always worry about medication flaring up her IBS but so far it's OK.

It's finally cleared up here after 2 days or so of rain.  So, we walked but only about a half mile or so.  I don't want to over do it.  I don't no exactly how she feels.  She's so stoic.

Her urine still has the visible blood, not bright red like it was but I can still see it if she goes in the right place.  So, I'm hoping that will clear up even more soon.

She's even got an ointment for her private area to help with itching and any secondary "female" issues that might pop up due to the long course of antibiotics.  It gives her the zoomies when I put it on, LOL!

Anyway, thanks so, so much for thinking of her.  I never seem to get used to her having these problems even though it's been going on since I got her.
