    Things not looking good!

Oh boy,,,all of a sudden things are falling apart,,,maybe some good thoughts and prayers might help.   Not worried enough about DH who is having major back surgery on the 30th....and everything else is going bad now.    This time its my brother in law Jerry...my sisters husband. He is not healthy, hasn't been for some time.  He keeps having heart failure problems,,,and of course he wouldn't quit smoking.  He didnt come on Christmas Day for dinner becasue he got sick the night before; They think its a bug and not CHF  BUT,,,now he was rushed to the hospital yesterday morning,,,not breathing very well.  I think its his heart now. My sister didn't  think so...but things keep looking worse for Jerry.   His heart rate is very very low, his blood pressure is all over the place and they don't know why and now his kidneys are failing.  Things look aweful. They want to take him to the Cleveland Clinic,,,well known for its care,,,but Jerry doesnt' want to go. He had heart surgery there before and its a pain to get to, my sister would never drive there and you have to go thru some horrible neighborhoods to get there besides. One time she got lost,,,and thank goodness Jerry was able to TALK her home,,, but that was a few years ago. My sister is not well either,,,takes a lot of pain medicine for her back that she needs surgery on, and also she has asthma and her breathing is going on her,,,no doubt with nerves.    She is at the hosptal now trying to talk him into going to the clinic.
Since the Idog spirit seem to be so high,,,hoping for some of it.
    Thanks in advance!

    Oh, Dyan,

I'm so sorry for what you are going thru right now.  I'm glad he's in the hospital now for them to look after him.  They won't release him unless it's alright.

I guess he feels too bad to travel.  When you need help the most is when you feel least likely to go for it.  If he is talked into going to the clinic, who will take him?  Is your sister up for driving that far?  And what happens if he were to get worse on the way - but that goes back to assuming the hospital wouldn't release him if he was that bad.??

At this point, I don't think he could go there unless it was in an ambulence.  Actually, rereading the post, it sounds super serious.  Which means I don't think an ambulence would take him unless he was stabilized.

Is the hospital where he is at now a qualified one?  .  Hopefully, the hospital will get his blood pressure back up soon.  Do you think the kidney problem is related to the blood pressure issue??  Or seperate?  Or maybe a bug did make him worse??

So Sorry Dylan. All my prayers.

Actually, the kidneys secrete the hormone that tells the BP to rise and fall...and that is controlled by the pituatary gland in the brain.  Sorry, that's a real laymans explanation but the short answer is that kidneys have EVERYTHING to do with BP.

    Thanks guys!
I don't know what has to do with anything. I think he has a very bad heart,,,complicated by pehaps a bug. ALSO he is on a few inhalers which my sister told me that one of them shouldn't be used a lot as its bad for your heart ( I believe that is what she said ) and that is the inhaler he uses a lot of.   For some reason which my sister hasn't explained yet,,,, he has neck pain that is very severe. He went to the doctor on Thursday,,,afraid it was blocked artery causing that pain. Dr. said no, that artery is fine,,,go get a contour pillow for your neck. Jerry is not a real worrier,,,so to think it was a blocked artery while its only a physical thing,,doesn't make sense.    But they tested him (Sis said NOT a stress test,,but just where they checked his heart rate after he walked a certain distance ) said his heart rate was at 20 where it should have been 80.   He was to go back Sat morning..but ended up in ER on Friday morning.  The kidney thing is a new thing....so is the BP I think.   So Glenda,,,that could be it,,,his BP is going wacky and its causing kindey failure????    They are trying to stabilize his BP and so far they can't.
No Chas,,,my sister is not able to drive him to the CC...don't think that is necessary. I do believe they would be taking him by ambulance to the the clinic.  Also not sure that I could say the hospital he is in now is good enough because it doesn't sound like they think so,,, or his doctors don't think so.  Its a big hospital,,,but the Clinic is the place to be if you are really ill,,,people come from all over the world to the Cleveland Clinic....I suppose that is why they want him there.
Jerry has been taken  to ICU this morning,,,I guess that is really a good thing since its the weekend especially.  But of course my sister can't talk with him by phone when he is in ICU, at least not at this point.

Dyan, sorry you family is having  to go through this. I don't know why it is, but it just seems like if something is going to go wrong, the holidays will be the time for it.  I'll keep your sister and BIL in my prayers and light a candle for your family.

Dyan - that's a lot of health woes at once for one family - so sorry to hear it all.  Sending good will and wishes for them all.

Dyan, I'm so sorry to hear about the health problems your family is going thru right now... just know, you're all in our prayers.

I am sending some prayers to your family.  This is a hard time of year to have this be happening.  I pray that things will start to look up with the New Year.

Dyan - I'm sorry to read that you and your family are dealing with these health issues at this time.  I hope that they can take care of your BIL and get him stabilized.  A heart rate of 20 is so low, I can't even imagine.  Having him in ICU and getting that kind of undivided attention is a good thing though but I'm sorry that your sister isn't able to visit with him.  I know that must be extremely stressful for her.

I remember that your DH was having back problems but didn't realize they'd scheduled him for surgery.  You might remember that my best friend had the surgery on her back in November.  She'd gotten to the point where she couldn't even make a short trip to the store or do the simplest of tasks, so surgery was her only hope.  The surgery went well and after a few weeks of recovering, she's doing pretty well.  She saw her surgeon last Thurs. and mentioned that she still has some numbness in her leg/feet and he said that wasn't normal and if it continues he wants her to have another MRI.  I'm hoping that it's just taking some time for all the swelling around the nerve to settle down and she'll be fine.  I hope that your DH's surgery and recovery goes smoothly and he's pain free again.

I'll keep all of your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Dyan, me too -- I just saw this.  I'm surely going to lift your family up and you as well.  All these things cause so much family stress -- take care.  Good thots and prayers coming.
