Please pray for Lori's grandma

Thanks everyone.  I have an update. . .

I talked to Gram this morning.  She's on IV antibiotics that they are hoping will clear up both infections that are going on.  They are hoping to get the secondary one cleared up and then put her on an at home IV for six weeks to clear the one that started in the hip.  She's got to wait and see how it goes.  If the IV only needs to go in once per day she can probably go home and they will have a visiting nurse come in.  But, if she needs it twice a day it looks like she will have to go to a nursing home temporarily.  It will be for six weeks.  It's not the first time she's gone to a nursing home for IV purposes but none of us really want her to have to go back there.  So, that's where we are medically.

Mentally, she's bored silly at the hospital.  They have her isolated because I guess the secondary infection is contagious.  It's more unhealthy people who are at risk but they make visitors put on a gown and gloves.  She loves people and probably would be having a good time if she had a roommate.  I know that sounds odd, but she's very social.  She makes friends very easily.  She said the nurse came and did her hair and stuff like that so she did spend time with her.  Then while we were talking a priest came by for a visit so she let me go.

I'll speak with her again soon.  We might go see her tomorrow.

Thanks for praying for her.  I truly appreciate it.

Lori, I'm glad to hear some positive news about your Grandmother's infections and course of treatment.  I hope she's able to go home rather than the nursing home (unless she can get a roommate or "unit-mate" who is equally social and will help her feel happier while she's there).  I know from friends and family who've had lengthy stays in the hospital that the days can be very long and boring.  There's only so much TV or reading one can take.  Hopefully, the periodic visits from hospital staff will break up the hours in between phone calls and visits from you and your family.  Maybe if she has to go to the nursing home, it'll be an open-minded one that recognizes the importance of animals in healing, and you'll be able to bring Willow for a visit with her.

I'm keeping you and your Gram in my thoughts and hoping the news continues to be positive.

    Thanks, Tracy.

I told her the RedSox/Yankee game was on today so she was going to watch that.  So, that will keep her busy until my parents get there later.

I'm going to try to go see her tomorrow afternoon by myself.  My husband will be working.

I sure hope that the meds do the trick.  But Lori?  If she has any blood pressure issues this is NOT a good game to be watching......I think MINE is through the roof right now.........
    • Gold Top Dog
No, no blood pressure issues, thankfully.  I know, what are they doing??  And, I just wanna cry every time I see Johnny.  [&:]

If they don't get some pitching help and NOW, well they can hang up any hope of post season play.  They need starters AND relievers cuz what they've got right now majorly suck.  DH has a FIT when they leave a relief pitcher in for more than one inning....the guy comes in, does well for an inning and then blows it the next.  Man, it's TOUCH being a Red Sox fan.......

I know, what about Josh Beckett, walked in TWO runs!  Hello??
    • Gold Top Dog
    Well, yeah, and the relievers....OYE!!

Danged good thing this is YOUR thread of Jaime would have to be slapping our paws, errr, hands for going OT!
    • Gold Top Dog
Yeah, I guess she would have.  I really haven't seen her around here lately.  Anyway, thanks for all the support, everyone.  [:)]

Gram Update:  Well, spoke with her again tonight.  She is going to be discharged tomorrow to a nursing home for six weeks of antibiotics.  They are trying to avoid this infection getting into her bone.  After the six weeks, they will re-evaluate.

She's been in a nursing home before for the same type of thing, IV medication.  And, she'd like to go back to the same one since she knows a lot of people there but there were no beds available as of today.  They are going to try again tomorrow, if not she's going to a different one owned by the same people.

She's doining OK mentally, she was watching TV and gossiping about the people there, that's like her.

Please continue to pray this works, we don't think she'd make it thru a surgery and her doctors agree.

    Thanks!!!!

Lori, thanks for sharing the update on your Gram.  I'm glad she's being discharged, and I hope a bed opens up in her preferred location.  It's too bad the hospital can't keep her an extra day or two until one is available, but I know they boot people out ASAP these days.  I'll keep sending good vibes that no matter which place she goes to that the antibiotics do the trick.  I'm glad to hear she seems to be in good spirits.  Are both care facilities close enough that you'll be able to visit her at either one?  Like I said before, it would be awesome if you could bring Willow in, even for a quick 5 minute visit.  Keep us posted, and tell your Gram that a New Englander (and Red Sox fan) 3000 miles away is sending her good wishes!

Tracy-Thank you so much.  Yes, luckily both facilities are not far from us.  [:)]

While it stinks that she has to go to the nursing home, I'm so glad that she's being released.  Hospitals are not fun places to be.  And it certainly sounds encouraging that they are going to try to treat her...if they had ANY doubt, she'd be in surgery already.  They typically don't mess around with stuff like this, especially in older folks.

OT, but do you have ANY idea how old I feel that your grandma is younger than my MOTHER???[:D]
    • Gold Top Dog
Oh, Glenda, that has me laughing!  But, it's not that your old it's that my mom was only 21 when she had me.  My parents got married at 18.  Mom is 55 now, Gram will be 81 in October.

She's really not all that upset with the idea of the nursing home.  She loves being around people.  I just hope she gets to go to the one where to quote her, "she knows everybody."

Hey, guess what Gram told me she and my grandfather did on their honeymoon???  They went to NY to see the Yankees!!!  Whaaat????  She said they saw some of the greats of the day playing.  But, she then told me that they were RedSox fans and they just went because they wanted to see Yankee Stadium.

Thanks for all the good wishes for my Grandmother!
