My SIL needs your thoughts and prayers - CoBuHe

Barbara, is there any news on your SIL?

Thanks so much for asking.  Chyrel was moved from the CCU of the hospital to an offsite acute long term care facility.

There have been battles with the primary care doctor who continues to want to keep her on morphine.  She was weaned off of it while in the CCU, then this dork put her back on it.  Finally after a couple of meetings with my husband (doh...don't want that) and our neice...they took her off of it again, and this doctor seems to be back in the saddle.  I think he was giving up and basically letting her go.  The other doctors, pulmonary and cardilogy docs insisted there is hope for her to recover.

Of course, while she was zoned out on morphine, she was not responsive to our visits.

She was able to breathe on her own for a FEW DAYS before having to put the ventilator back on.

Today, my husband was driving to a job close by the facility, and a little voice inside him told him to stop by.  He walked into her room, and she recognized him!!!  She can't talk yet, but she is responsive.  He asked her questions with yes or no answers and she was completely with him.  He asked her if she loved him...and she gave him "The Look."  The look of, well of course I do, you silly little brother.  I'm crying as I write this.  Such joyous news.  I cannot say if she is out of the woods, but I can say....today was a very good day.  A very good day indeed!

    Big Smile

Thank you very much.  I forgot to mention earlier that she GIGGLED today!  Big Smile  She and Rick saw a silly commercial on tv...and she actually giggled.  I can't tell you how thrilled I was to hear that.

Yes, absolutely yay for giggling. I'm glad she's doing better and I'm especially glad that she's got a loving family to advocate for her.

Awesome news!!  I feel your giddiness.  Chyrel is so lucky to have y'all there to be her advocates.

Its been a long time, a long struggle for Chyrel...and she is not out of the woods by any means.  But, Rick told me today that she was off the ventilator for a full 24 hours today/yesterday!  AND, she held her own glass to drink!

    Awesome news.

I'm a realist...but we can only hope for less struggles and more giggles.
