Thanks so much for asking. Chyrel was moved from the CCU of the hospital to an offsite acute long term care facility.
There have been battles with the primary care doctor who continues to want to keep her on morphine. She was weaned off of it while in the CCU, then this dork put her back on it. Finally after a couple of meetings with my husband (doh...don't want that) and our neice...they took her off of it again, and this doctor seems to be back in the saddle. I think he was giving up and basically letting her go. The other doctors, pulmonary and cardilogy docs insisted there is hope for her to recover.
Of course, while she was zoned out on morphine, she was not responsive to our visits.
She was able to breathe on her own for a FEW DAYS before having to put the ventilator back on.
Today, my husband was driving to a job close by the facility, and a little voice inside him told him to stop by. He walked into her room, and she recognized him!!! She can't talk yet, but she is responsive. He asked her questions with yes or no answers and she was completely with him. He asked her if she loved him...and she gave him "The Look." The look of, well of course I do, you silly little brother. I'm crying as I write this. Such joyous news. I cannot say if she is out of the woods, but I can say....today was a very good day. A very good day indeed!
