Paige - I'm so sorry that the news wasn't better. I'll keep your sister and Patrick in my thoughts and prayers. I think Johnny had some great things to consider. I hadn't found this site when our lab was dx is nasal cancer and the only thing I could find that might help was shark cartilage. I doubt it did any good but it helped me to feel like I was trying. Hugs to you and your sister. I know Patrick has been a part of your life too and this news must be so hard to take.

Paige, I am so sorry to hear this news.  Our sweet Shadow was DX with lymphomia this time 3 years ago.  All the wonderful people on this forum helped me get through this time.  There have been many alternative treatments found since that time.  Tell your sis she is in my thoughts and prayers.  ((hugs))

    Any news on Patrick?

    • Gold Top Dog

Paige, I am so sorry to hear this -- it's still sketchy enough where all she can do is feel 'bad'.

Things like a cancer diet can really help maximize his quality time ... and tell her we're all praying & thinking good thots!

Per my sister's email to me tonight:

"Radiologist came back today with additional reviews, agreed about the lungs and says there's a small nodule on the spleen.

He's doing fabulously on his pain meds (50mg Tramadol 3x a day + 1/2 tab of 75mg Deramaxx).... Acting like a puppy (throwing toys in the air, playing with Henry), just having a little trouble breathing even when he's sleeping.  It was such a complete turn around from how he was behaving on Tuesday that I've decided to bring him to the oncologist for a consultation.  Our appointment is on Tuesday morning.

I'm hoping chemo is an option.  If we can shrink the nodules in his lungs and maybe relieve some pressure from the tumor on his throat, that would be wonderful.  Think good thoughts for him. :-) "

Tramadol is some good stuff!  It has really changed pain control in dogs for the better.  I'm sure simply feeling less pain has been a big improvement.  I hope the Oncologist has some options that do not increase quality of life issues.  That's the real trade off.  How much more time vs. quality of the time remaining?  I hope the options the doctor suggests are "real" options in extending Patrick's life.  Continued good thoughts for your sister and Patrick.
