Thoughts Needed for a College Friend (aDork)

I just heard that a friend of mine from college was injured in a car accident on Dec 17th. She has a severe head injury but is in stable condition (though still unconcious). I know what those iDog vibes can do, please send them to her and her family in NC.

Thank you for everyone who has put my friend Katie on their list.

So far her mother has said that her numbers have been good, and they have removed the bolt measuring inter-cranial pressure. She is still being weaned off the sedatives, and they hope to have her off in the next day or so. She could move all extremities and they have turned the ventilator down. Tomorrow they do a breathing test to see if she can come off the ventilator. There can be no evaluation of her injury until she wakes up. Her family is extremely grateful for the prayers and thoughts.

Hopefully when she wakes up I will talk to two of her other friends who are down here (one being ALOK) and see about organizing a trip up to visit her. I want to wait until things are a little more settled, though, since I know that everyone will be trying to visit right after she wakes up and after she gets out of the ICU.

I'm just seeing this about your friend.  She and her family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

This is good news we will keep her in our prayers.

She didn't pass her breathing test, which means she's still on the ventilator, which means greater risk of pneumonia. Her blood pressure and heart rate keep going crazy. Please send her steady vibes, and for continued improvement.

    Thanks again, everyone.

Just passing through and saw this - warm, healing thoughts for your friend; what a sad, tough time her family must have had this holiday season.  I hope the new year brings new hope.

Thanks again everyone. She has not passed her subsequent breathing tests and is scheduled for a tracheotomy on Monday. She has a bacterial infection in her lungs, a common effect of the ventilator, but this puts her at greater risk for meningitis due to the fractures in her skull. She is now completely off of the sedative and her heart rate/BP are being managed individually with medication. She is moving around a lot. She also had fluid coming from her ear the other day. Last that I heard it appeared to be an abrasion within the ear, and not brain/spinal fluid as originally feared.

Keep the thoughts coming as she is still in the ICU and getting slowly better everyday, but always facing new challenges.

Continued thoughts and prayers for your friend and her family.  Hopefully things start turning around for the good!

I'm not sure of details, but today's update is that she is not doing well and they need a miracle. Will post more if/when I know it.

    Update:

Her status is still mostly the same from yesterday. They did a lumbar spinal tap to lessen the chance of infection, but there are no conclusive results about the fluid or the damage. They are going to get an MRI. She is still in a coma, but it's not medically induced, just her body's doing. Her progress is not where the doctors would like it to be, as they want her to start waking up and having purposeful movement.

Continuing to send prayers and good thoughts for your friend, all who care for her, and all who are caring for her.
