Well, I'm late to seeing this but thrilled to read that it wasn't anything too serious. Yay and Whew!

Yea!!!!!  Seems like its not nice to cheer for gut ache but in Billy's case Big Smile

Hey -- both the vet and I WERE cheering!!  He thot the same thing I did at first -- either liver or renal failure.  Then we began to put the pieces of the puzzle together -- and I told him what Dr. DiNatale said on Tuesday about malabsorption -- and he said "THAT'S IT -- " and started to do a fecal.  A gut as distressed as his doesn't WANT food - it's too "sore" so it just shoves the food thru without processing it.

But we both said almost simultaneously "Ok -- a gut ache over liver or kidney failure? I WILL TAKE IT!!!" absolutely.

A sore gut we can treat.  He's already had metranydazole -- and I betcha he eats his whole dinner.  It was just such a relief to have something we could FIX!!! RAH!!!!

Thanks so much for the update, Callie.  I'm so glad it's 'just' a tummy ache.

    • Gold Top Dog

Yeah! I'm glad it was "just" a gut ache. Billy, we hope you feel better soon!

Billy, we hope you are feeling much better already and so sorry you had to miss eating!

Lori -- thank you for being so UNDERSTANDING of the boy!! *smile* -- unless you have a dog that is THIS food-motivated it's tough to understand just how incredibly HORRIBLE for him this was!!

Dr. Bailey had told me only to give him a minor amount of food (some of the heart meds he takes HAVE to have food) but this morning he was all a wag to GET that and then he ***asked*** for more.  RAH!!!

The world can resume spinning on its axis and the sun can resume it's appropriate orbit in the sky -- the world is safe to go on I think!!

I'm really late seeing this, but I'm so glad everything worked itself out.  I think everyone on the forum thinks of Billy as "their" dog so he always has tons of good vibes coming his way. Big Smile

Gud fur you Billy; now keep eatin' all the stuf yur mom gives ya. Can you feel the ear scritches I'm givin' ya?

Callie, I know you give Billy yogurt, but could it be the Baytril messing with his gut; killing the good bacteria? I've been giving Jessie probiotics everyday while she's on the Baytril and her appetite's stayed good.

    • Gold Top Dog

No -- this has been going on a bit longer than that I think -- this wasn't just "some" bacteria -- this was massive amounts and now that I'm seeing him feel 'better' IKnow he's been feeling bad for a while and just didn't let me know.

He's been avoiding the water bed -- and at this point I was thinking it was arthritis, but nope -- the very first night after being on the abx 24 hours he's UP ON THE BED.

I'm a bit surprised it took us this long to figger this out *sigh*

Callie, I'm sooooo glad that Billy is feeling better.  I hope this comes out right.  I'm on cold meds so my head is not too clear.  Dogs have a way of still being able to confound us.  You think you have their every move figured out.  Your 'gut' works most of the time but they can still be good at hiding stuff.  It's surprising.
